Malay ( an ethnic , not a short form for Malaysian ) food is different from Indonesian food although there are many similarity eg Nasi lemak is Malay while Nasi Uduk is Javanese- similar but taste different. That sambal do not exist in Indonesia.
FYI , Malaysians consist of Chinese &, Indian decendent , Malay, Dayak , Iban , Bajau , Kadazan and other indigenous race. So you see and get a potpouri of culture, food , religion in Malaysia.

Malay is a race not a shortform of Malaysia. Malay is a majority race in Malaysia. Malaysia is a country. Malaysians are the citizens. Malaysians consist of Malay, Chinese, Indians, native tribal of peninsular and Borneo part of Sabah and Sarawak. Malay race also scattered in Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Phillipine. However Malay food in Malaysia might have different variation than Malay food in Indonesia.
