I can't thank you enough for this video. My Met was doing the exact same thing, & I had changed the battery & the spark plug to no avail. I copied what you did in the video & now it works perfectly! you sir have saved me a costly and time consuming trip to the dealership. Thumbs up!
But what did he do??? He took the needle out and put it back in. Then said "it was the needle jet" but what did he do with the needle? Did he get a new one? I have been fighting this battle for years. Please help. Thanx
Thanks.I just bought a 2003 Honda Metropolitan for $800. I bought it for tuneup and diagnostic and it cost me $300. Almost half of the cost of the bike. I able to check some things on my own, and videos like this will really help me. Now I think there are two things I can do if my scooter is running the way I think it should be.
Thanks a ton for posting this video - I just bought this scooter used for a pretty good deal because this was the exact problem with it. I followed your instructions - took me all of about 20 minutes and now it works great! Thanks again!
My son is getting a new Metro today. It has port injection. Hopefully it will last a long time and not have the varnish issues. He will not allow it to sit more than one hour except for sleep time. He is going to love this new machine. My concern is so much theft of these scooters. We purchased a really heavy chain from the dealer hoping he will not get this one stolen.
No problem, I hope the videos help. As far as your engine goes, I recommend removing the carb and breaking it down and giving it a thorough cleaning. Sitting for any amount of time is hard on the carb, and can gum up the needle jets and air/fuel passages. It only takes a little debris to wreck havoc on small engine carburetors. Good luck, and keep me posted!
@dutchsupremeable That is awesome news! Thanks for the update, I am glad the video helped and you got the metro running properly! Thanks again for watching and for the comment. Happy Holidays!
@passmoregas23 I used a can of B-12 Chem tool. But you could use anything that has a cleaning agent. Carb Cleaner or Brake Cleaner also works well, just make sure to keep it off and away from the rubber diaphragm. You don't want the rubber drying out and cracking.
@mariusandreawesome Thanks for watching and the comment! She has a car, this is her "toy", so to speak. She uses it to ride around the neighborhood and have fun. Although, every now and then I like to ride the little thing, it is a lot of fun!
@busaofsc Thanks for watching and the comment! You are right, replacing the filter did help (I did a video on this procedure), and I also found that when I stored it last fall (2010) and changed all the fluids, I over filled the oil by about 6 ounces. This may not seem like much, but when I drained the oil out and topped it off to the proper level, that made allllllllll the difference! I plan on posting an "Update" video so others can know about the oil issue. Thanks again for watching!
Worked!!! My only suggestion would be to use a screwdriver with a longer shaft to get more torque at the head of that fastener Seeing you have to go through using that bolt extracted scared me straight. Thanks for making the video! My needle had gum at the base that I worked off with my finger nail.
Thanks for the comment and for watching! It sounds like you are having the same issue as I was in this video. It sounds like it is the same thing and you may be able to resolve it following my steps. Good luck and keep me posted on what you find, these things are a lot of fun to drive!
I have a 2004 metropolitan, turns over, has compression, has spark, I cleaned the carb multiple times but I just wont take gas. the pump wouldn't get it up there. I even tried gravity feeding the carb with no results. My battery needs replacing but I would think that it at least would start...
Mine is too. 2009, just cleaned the carb (remove and clean , it's like new now bike only has 600 miles on it) It tries to start and idle, but completely craps out when you give it any gas
Thanks for the fast reply! I'll give it a shot. :) I have a 07' Xingyue XY150T and it's been sitting a while...like almost 2 years. Drined the gas, filled with new, changed the oil, dropped in a new battery and a new spark plug and fuel filter. I'm running out of Ideas. It tries to turn over but doesn't make it. Let me know if you might have any other ideas! I appreciate your help.
Okay...I saw everything, pretty straight forward...except I have no idea what you repaired w/regard to the 'needle' and/or rubber diaphragm! You took it off...then came back and then began re-assembly! What was wrong? Was it 'jammed' 'gummy' 'plugged' or what? Was the diaphragm no good? Not 'moving' right? A 'pin-hole' leak or something? I still have no idea what was 'wrong'...other than the damn screw 'stripped-out'.
Hello and thanks for the video. I learned from it. I am wondering when you turn the key to the n position. There is a ticking noise you can hear. Is that the fuel pump being engaged?
Many thanks for the great information. My Metro won't start and I'm pretty sure it's the carb. I will be diving in already knowing what I'm in for thanks to you. Cheers.
i might be off topic but i found this video cuz i was actually looking for how to remove the restrictor plate to make my met go a little faster or a little more acceleration...can you help me?
If it's just the jet needle, I will typically spray it down with some brake parts cleaner, wipe it off, and then re-install it. If you get a chance, take a look at my carb tear down for the Honda, in that video I actually soak everything in some cleaning solution. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Thanks for the comment and for watching! I believe the cleaning of the Jet Needle is the same as yours. If I remember correctly, the ruckus has the same 50CC (49 cc) engine and carb. Also, take a look at the new video I upload on tearing down and cleaning the carb, that should also be done while you have it torn down for the crankcase seal. It doesn't take much for the needles to get clogged, and it is well worth it. Keep me posted on how it does!
Currently working on my wife's KYMCO 50. Exactly same symptoms as you show here. Thanks for sharing. That yellow pollen reminds me of Florida. The pines used to drench us with pollen when I lived there. Where are you?
Thank you SO much for this video. I'm going to see if that's my problem right now. I do have a question though: in addition the same starting stalling issue, I found when checking my air filter that there seems to be a mixture of gas and oil that has somehow come in through that tube on the left of the air filter housing and has soaked my air filter, which i have now replaced. is that because my carb is sticking open?
The screws on top of those CV carbs are notorious for seizing up after awhile. Before I strip the head of the screw out however, I take a pair of those miniature Channel Locks, grab the head, and turn the screw with those until the screw breaks loose.
Thanks a lot for these videos! My CHF50 has been sitting for over a year. I tried to get it going today and I managed to get it to run for a few seconds but then it would die out. I siphoned the old gas out of the tank and put fresh stuff in. I'm going to clean the carb tomorrow. I think the battery is toast though. Will it still run without a battery? Is it worth getting the carb cleaned out before I go out and buy another battery? Any advice in this respect would be really helpful. Thanks
Newbies always Investigate the Diaphragm slide LOL. It sticks out like HEY! OPEN ME UP. Drain your Carb bowl check for contamination 95% of the time, Its in your Main and Pilot jets. And These engine run lean anyway . So, Water or debris sucks up first when you open the throttle ..They will cold start on choke jet which is higher in the bowl but after that they will die while idling and applying throttle. Check valve lash . If there tight Hard start and No Idle . Low compression Good Luck :)
Hi there. Is there a video on how to wire the charging cables? Would like to connect mine to a battery tender over the winter and don’t want to have to remove the plate every time. Thanks!
I have a Honda metropolitan 2005, chf50 50cc Got up to around 40 and the throttle stopped working i can throttle it to about 5mph and anything past that it tries to die on me, any idea on what this could be, im aware the filter is a tad dirty
So it looks like you only cleaned it a little bit, the needle jet, and it made that big of a difference? It really didn't look dirty, but I guess it was. My scooter is doing the same thing your wife's scooter does. I'm going out right now to clean the needle. Hopefully this works, thanks for the upload.
Im having the same problem in mine. I sprayed the carb down with some carb cleaner but it looked spotless. I didnt do anything to the needle or filter though. I will check that out tonight! When Iturn the key to the on position i get a clicking sound. is that normal? Someone told me it was the alternator working, but i wasnt sure. I'll let you know if this fixes mine too! Great video, thanks!
My brother took my scooter without my permission and wired the starter to an on/off switch because he didn't have the key. I removed the switch but not sure how to reconnect the wires. Any help?
Hi I have a 2013 Stephanie. All of a sudden as I ride and rpm pass 6000 it goes around to the end and back then scooter starts stalling and back fires. if I ride under 6000 it doesnt happen. Any ideas of what is wrong.
Hey Texascoder. Was wondering if you could help me...? Can you put a longer (double) seat on the Metropolitan? I would like to ride my daughter on my Metropolitan with me. Or what rear carrier box is compatible......PLEASE HELP help
I have a 50cc china scooter that can not speed up, max rpm is 4500. idling good. i cleaned the carburetor, same problem exist. changed a new carb, the issue is still there, what is wrong? this trike is just 6 month old. I need your help. thanks
@lisamariedeets Hi! Thank you for the comment and for watching. I love to help when I can, but in your situation, I really am unsure how to fix it. I am not familiar with that procedure. I think the best approach would be to take it to a local Honda ATV shop and have them do the procedure. At that point you can ask the technician how the steps are completed, so that way the next time you can do it. Let me know what you find out, as I am curious also, thanks again for watching and for the comment
Thanks for the comment and for watching! Sitting for any extended periods, without running, is hard on our little engines. But you are on the right track! I highly recommend watching my newest video (tear down and cleaning of the carb), and completely cleaning your carb out. As for the battery, I highly recommend replacing it. With the battery, the stator (alternator) is not going to be able to supply the power the scooter needs. Thanks again for watching, keep me posted!
Correct. This is why screws are always bungled on japanese bikes after the bubba P.O. worked on them. Every "phillips" screw on a japanese bike is really JIS which is slightly different. Enough to cause Phillips drivers to not get a proper bite and strip the head. A decent 6 in 1 from Vessel on amazon is $10-$15.
LOL this is how not to fix anything people, and this didn't fix his wife's scooter, although he was in the sorta right direction what happened is the bowl (fuel) has trash in it clogging the MAIN jet. So just pull the carb remove the bowl (shoot some carb cleaner around the other parts jet passages and needle then clean the bowl and shoot cleaner thru the main jet put bowl back on and then carb and your done.
I had the same problem with mine. I cleaned up the carb and it stopped dying when throttled but now it has no power on take offs and it will lag really bad. any suggestions? I have an 05 met.
Hi, i've got a question for you. I have the same scooter and yesterday, i had the same problem that you had. Is it a battery problem or an other problem? My scooter has been in a garage without heat during the whole winter and when i wanted to start it, it didn't work. So, what could i do?
Hi! i have a problem.. Can someone help me???

@mariusandreawesome Hmmm, sorry the only scooter I have worked on is the wife's metropolitan. You could possibly look at the following TH-cam channel, briansmobile1, he has worked on bikes in the past and might know something about your SFX Sport.
I have a 2014 phc lence with 14,400mi. And i Just recently got the air filter and the idle adjusted or tune for 230$ and now it has little power and turns off on my during stop signs. Any idea what could be? pleasehelp

Exactly, vicegrips are a life saver... extraction kit? I dont have one especially for this situation. You need large vicegrips and small vicegrips. Nice video. My lady got the same Metro (Scoopy in Japan) 600$ , she loves it.

@Lorddarthvader1701 Awesome! I am glad the video helped! It takes a little bit to get the clamps off, but once done, it's all down hill from there!

Ockham's razor suspect the simplest thing first. Bad gas if it has been sitting all winter. Thanks for the video.

Clean jets and clean carb thoroughly and then adjust valves, i did this on mine and its smooth as ever now.
What are the tube that's disconnected from underneath?
Thank you SO much for this video. I'm going to see if that's my problem right now. Hey great videos That screw you removed and rounded if you put it in a vise and use a hack saw cut a slot in the head and use a common screw driver
The screws on top of those CV carbs are notorious for seizing up after awhile. Before I strip the head of the screw out however, I take a pair of those miniature Channel Locks, grab the head, and turn the screw with those until the screw breaks loose.

I cant get mine to stay on any advice
Hi there. Is there a video on how to wire the charging cables? Would like to connect mine to a battery tender over the winter and don’t want to have to remove the plate every time. Thanks!

@@roserivet4952 I had the clicking noise also. It was a bad fuel pump. Putting in a new pump and filter fixed the problem. Good luck.

Thanks. Nice video. I think that is the problem with my scooter. I'm going to try it.
Excellent video I have to do the same thing and this helps tons.
Does cleaned needle valve (stuck) were main reason?
Very helpful; thanks a bunch.
what is the size of the bolt that holds the idling adjustment onto the carb?
CM.Olden. My 50cc metropolitan moped licks off when trying to start, sounds like it's coming from relay.Any advice.
mine does the exact same thing (Kymco People 150) ill try that :) thanks for the video
What did you clean the jet off with?
I have a 50cc china scooter that can not speed up, max rpm is 4500. idling good. i cleaned the carburetor, same problem exist. changed a new carb, the issue is still there, what is wrong? this trike is just 6 month old. I need your help. thanks

did it stutter without power an keep stalling mines doing that atm

i cant find mine

Jonathan Antonio w what was wrong with it
Too cute: @13:30 a 4-yr-old correctly diagnoses the problem!! Keep that young-un close for the next problem
Hi, i've got a question for you. I have the same scooter and yesterday, i had the same problem that you had. Is it a battery problem or an other problem? My scooter has been in a garage without heat during the whole winter and when i wanted to start it, it didn't work. So, what could i do?
Your suppose to have a battery tender plugged to keep the battery charged. Other than that, I suggest cleaning the carburator.
My Scooter runs well up to 20 but then it very slowly moves to 30. sometimes it suddenly kicks in and goes faster, like old times. Any thoughts.
Sounds like bad gas, or even a flat spark plug, check valves? Clean air filter mabey
Hi! i have a problem.. My Honda dio starts up normal th real problem is that it doesnt have power... when you are turning the gas handle it goes for sometime and then it stop it stops when you are driwing and when you twist again gas handle it takes 4-5 minutes to again be aibe to drive for 600 meters.... I have a 2009 honda metro, it was sitting in my closet for a lil over a year, and i charge my battery for less than an hr, n pour in 93 octane gas then it would start for about 5-10 sec then cut off. what could be the problem? HELP PLEASE!!
Carlos Watson carburator needs to be clean or buy a new one and practice with the old one
whats the top speed.
Do i need a battery to start it
@walton0402 Thanks for the comment! Every now and then I will see some gummy deposits, in this case it was cleaner than normal. Let me know how yours turns out and if it helps. Thanks again for watching!
How do I make a metropolitan 2 from 2005 go faster?
@mariusandreawesome Hmmm, sorry the only scooter I have worked on is the wife's metropolitan. You could possibly look at the following TH-cam channel, briansmobile1, he has worked on bikes in the past and might know something about your SFX Sport.
I have a 2014 phc lence with 14,400mi. And i Just recently got the air filter and the idle adjusted or tune for 230$ and now it has little power and turns off on my during stop signs. Any idea what could be? pleasehelp
No clue buddy
Yes it's a valve adjustment
next time you're at Harbor Freight.... get yourself an impact driver....
Mine will now run but then dies after I run around the block - I give up
that zip tie isn't gonna be strong enough to seal the diaphragm
Excellent videos 👍👍👍
You should google Screw Grab. I've been able to remove any stripped screw since I started using it. I used to use it on aircraft all the time too. Just don't get it in your eye since it's liquid graphite. LOL
I’m having problems with my starter PLEASE Help
ever heard of vicegrips its much faster an 99% of the time it works on the striped head of the bolt
Exactly, vicegrips are a life saver... extraction kit? I dont have one especially for this situation. You need large vicegrips and small vicegrips. Nice video. My lady got the same Metro (Scoopy in Japan) 600$ , she loves it.
I would have cleaned the while carburator
i relize scooters have more problms then motorcycles
Valves
Next time put 1 side elastic band down
With my fat butt on it, about 30 MPH, with my wife, she can hit 35-40, downhill she has pegged the speedo. I believe on the Metropolitan II they are governed to top out at 30 or 35
when I give my scooter gas it sputters
