Get all skid steers together, from all makes in the same horse power, then do test, because you can't put a shredding head against a bucket on land clearing test that's like putting a spoon against a track hoe. The other tests when the ASV has a bucket on was alot better.
The cat isn't highflow like the asv you can't run the mulching head on that cat. Cats don't make their machines high flow till 92hp asv are high flow at 72 hp and above.
Interesting, very well put together. We run Deere and never have tried a ASV.Kubota isn’t bad.We thought the Cat cab was small and hard to get in and out.
Bobcat has the same rear cross member as the cat, so it really isn’t worth continually commenting on. It’s how they accomplish their vertical lift geometry. Not a big deal. Cats problem is their rear end is significantly taller blocking all back and down visibility.
I have been looking at used skid steers at a big auction and I must say the ASV has the smoothest controls out of the all the ones I operated. They are just so smooth and feel great.
It may not seem intuitive but, if you put the spout on top of the pour jug in stead of the bottom it will pour smoothly with out splashing or burping. This works with oil, antifreeze, water, Hydraulic fluid containers even gas cans. Try it.
Nothing against you guys but I have spent a long time running an ASV with a forestry head and you are being very unsafe around that. Those can pick up rocks and hurt and even kill people if they are hit by them. You shouldn't be walking around there when that thing is running and having another guy in a machine without the proper protective cage is dangerous.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Darian Ahmed thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I demoed both asv and cat I went with a cat 289d3 over them all and I was super impressed with the new bobcat t76 or whatever it was awesome machine by the way dealer was the thing for me and not price also all within 5k of each other and I abused the hell out of each
Caterpillar Ford you're right as long as it doesn't burn down from the shitty wiring first. I do like the cats but have a neighbor with a big excavation company and has lost 2 new cats from faulty wiring. The first one he couldn't prove it was the machine so had to use his insurance but the second machine they stopped the fire in time and cat realized it was their fault. I do like that cat took full responsibility and replaced the second machine and covered all the cost and money lost from the first one that the insurance didn't cover actually they handled it so well I gained a lot of respect for cat when it happened. I am a bobcat guy myself but wouldn't think twice about buying anything cat because of Ziegler and all the dealer support.
If you haven't traded this thing in by 5 years, this probably isn't your primary business. These machine reach a BER point which is beyond economical repair. I get what your saying but if you're smart and this is your primary business, trade them out every 3 or 4 years utilizing the warranty. It's sad but these machines are disposable and take a hell of a beating, especially in the forestry business.
So even though the ASV has "way more power," it stalled in the dirt test, which is what I can't stand about ASV, they're gutless. The reason the Cat has the bar in the back is for the vertical lift feature. Good luck loading a full-size truck with the ASV. Also, don't bother using the ASV is gravel, because it will destroy that rubber and plastic roller system.
Exactly, love our CAT 287, but it chews off rubber wheels like its its job in stone or mud. Have to do wide 3 pts turns. We did steel wheels in back, but the idler wheels across bottom get replaced yrly
I think the stalking thing is the asv will deliver 100% power until it just stalls the engine. The cat starts to throttle the hydraulic pumps so it won’t stall the engine. (Like riding the clutch) someone correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what I’ve heard before from some people.
my opinion, cat and asv both have have good and bad points ,it also depends on the operator as well and how much experience they have. , but thats just my opinion
This is great stuff. As for Pickup trucks, I would tell you not to use them for plowing snow. Use construction or agricultural equipment for snow. Trucks were designed for payloads and towing, not pushing things. Even in my town, the DOT stopped using class 8 trucks with plows and now just uses Volvo wheel Loaders for snow. Even the heavy duty class 8 trucks were feeling the bad effects from plowing.
@@getsum697 Everyone that spends money on a machine is Biased and self justifies the purchase by convincing themselves that what they bought is the best. You see this in everything from trucks to equipment to tools. For equipment the best brand is whichever one has the best parts and service department in your area.
I hear you but after one hazelnut harvest I already know that I never want to use a Weiss McNair JD-40 ever again. Too bad my boss doesn’t like the cool Italian machines 🤷🏻♂️
I own an ASV RC60 now. I have driven all of them. New Holland, cats, takahuuuuachia, bobcasts etc. I will stick with the older versions of the ASV line. I work circles around everyone else. My partner has a bobcat and hell if you want to tear up someones yard while trying not to, use a bobcat T190 or t250 You will get that job done. I mostly do concrete demolition, if it is a slab in a back yard and we have to haul out over the lawn, we only use the ASV. Pushing piles of Dirt, ASV. One summer we had a t190 and a t250 and the ASV RC60. We only used the ASV. The electrical gremilins killed the 250 (electrical controls suck) and the 190 had a piece of gravel get in-between the frame and oil pan and wear a hole in the oil pan. We did not have time to pull the engine so it sat till winter. On the ASV we could have done it in an evening. Bobcat has made it hard to keep buying them. I have found the best thing for my production is to keep my older ASV working.
I think that may also be because like they said the cat does have a little delay and if you watch closely you can see that delay overall you can tell that the asv has a lot more power efficiency that the cat lacks
I never ran ASV but I can't stand running CAT skid steer anything! The cat is slow, clunky, jerky and prefer foot controls for the bucket /boom operation. Like older new hollands
Looks like the ASV has more hydraulic horsepower and the wider tracks sealed the Cats fate. As I see it, the ASV did lose the lift and dump head to head which surprised me. Was it just me or did the buckets look to be different sizes in that test?
I thought the ASV performed faster than the CAT. I have often wondered what a comparison between these 2 machines be like. Now I know. I used to own an MD-70, POSI-TRAC.
We have a 289D with a gyro trac 400 mulching head on it and it balances well, yes it’s a little ass heavy with just a bucket but full bucket or mulcher and it balances well. I would like to see the 277 against the ASV as they have the same style undercarriage.
So you're comparing open cab vs enclosed. Radial lift vs vertical lift. And 2 completely different track systems. Just because they're same horsepower let's compare them. BTW why try a 287D cat same track system as ASV. Surprised most of the time your videos aren't so off.
Compare the life and cost to replace the undercarriages. The Cat CTL will last longer and be cheaper per hour than the MTL undercarriage and can be used in less forgiving terrain.
What a great comment.......... He probably compared them because they were the two machines that were on that job site. Rent the two machines you want tested and send them to him I'm sure he will be happy to run the tests you want.
Interesting video. Now, it's not fully scientific as there are many variables, but I appreciate the effort to try and keep it as fair as possible by switching operators and using same size buckets. I also enjoyed the video from a purely entertainment aspect, so I rate it about 13 out of 7 hardhats.
When I need a skid steer or mini excavator it's a cat rental it's close to home comes on a trailer. 299 cat for 200 a day. 305 mini both cabbed for 250 sip fuel. And best part avail able. 24/7 with a quick call due to working relationship with rental dealer.
Not to bad of a video. I will say it's not just the machine its also the operator. Two different skill levels with them a good operator knows their rig very well. I'm not sold on the ASV I've ran em and cat. I'll still take a cat because I can make them dance around any other Skiddy.
I've always thought a typical skid steer dirt bucket was half a yard range. A brief search only turned up one yards in the light material bucket range. I may be wrong but I don't want people getting screwed but thinking their bucket is bigger than it is. Also can you explain how it's right to sell dirt By the ton...vs buy the yard...cause the amount of dirt in a yard is the same wet or dry. A ton with water in it in my mind would be less volume than a dry ton (rain storm vs drought) Just ranting from a guy who's local gravel pit went from selling by yard to ton and price doubled at least.
This was cool, I enjoyed it. I bet these opportunities don't come along very often, but what about putting the ASV against a Kubota, Deere, Volvo, Bobcat or a Takeuchi, then a 5-6 way test, That would really be something. JMO. Keep Em Coming.
Hey Stanley if you ever get the chance to come to Wisconsin you should check out delaneys surplus I know you would love it. It’s not any old surplus you could even make a video!
I would say this was a really cool video but the guys that's actually out there running these is where the honest reviews come through still a cool video no doubt about it 👊👊👊👍👍👍👍👍
Apples and oranges as far as the flotation of those two different track/drive systems. Cat is heavier in the rear no matter what, that being said the MTL Cat would have been a much closer comparison of flotation as it is the exact same drive system.
I ran a asv about a month ago it was new only 16 hours but I must say I went full throttle for week hauling and pushing dirt tried to stall it out and it took all i gave it and it was impressive never had a skid even twice the size put out the work I got from the asv
I'm on a big farm and we use two cat skid steers we have one 279D track and 262D tire rig and hands down cat is the winner with service and we had a ASV sr 80 before the cat and there service sucked and it was in the shop more than it did any work
It is well known in the industry that the asv style undercarriage has more flotation. Cat sales their version and clearly markets it as the major difference as well. The standard undercarriage on that 289 is more rugged, and cheaper to replace, but less flotation. Not an apples to apples comparison, as I think the 259 cat would be more comparable, but close. I have a 299d2 and love it. I like the way the new asvs are going and hope they continue to do well.
The guy running the cat makes me wonder to say the least, your running a loader bucket, not a forestry 🌳 tree grinder,so how is this test fair??. There isn't a ASV dealer within 100 miles of my house, but there is a Cat dealer within about 25 miles of my house.
This is a hit piece just like the liberal news where honesty is not part of the process. This video is a hit piece where they wanted a certain outcome and loaded the evidence to make it so. Garbage.
Its my personal opinion of course. If the operator of the machine knows his machine and he is skilled at his craft, makes all the difference when you put equipment of equal performances together. I own a tree service and I prefer to run Husqvarna chainsaws over any other brands. I do own Stihl chainsaws and I have run Poulan chainsaws. I was a wild land fire fighter in the state of California for 8 years and i was a 1st sawyer on a type 1 hand crew. Our function was to put a "freeway" thru the forest with hand tools. A crew composed of(1) Fire Captain, (2) Sawyers, (2) sawyers pullers(hardest job on crew), (5) Pulaskis, (5) McLeod's , Drag spoon and Swamper. I was stationed in Northern California and I have over 2500+ fire hours on a Husqvarna 372xp chainsaw w/24" bar running usually full comp chains. We cut a lot of brush and fell a lot of tree's. When we weren't fighting forest fires we were brushing back state roads in Mendocino county of fir trees. I lived with a saw in my hands year round. 372xp our fire saw and a 371xp as our grade saw. I got a little time on these . People ask me what about Stihl's 660 or 440...Those are good saws also. They are equal in some specs.....but I have run the 372xp. I know my saw...I can break it down in the dark, I know where my 'bar tip' is at all times. I know how to hold it and where to hold it in all types of brush or trees I'm dismantling. Basically my saw is a 3rd appendage. long story...sorry. What I want to convey is its usually the operator that makes the difference.
Once again Late to the channel. Had a snow day today (we don’t snow plow in okc)and did nothing but watched your videos on learning better business practices etc. watching this video and seeing the ASV machine I’m Impressed(especially coupled with all the other ASV videos you’ve done). I gotta say I've been leaning towards either a Cat 289D or a Kubota 95-2 but having watched some of your vids I'm getting more convinced to go with the ASV 75!
good video you are right about dearler support . What happed with travis's 120 asv that was breaking down all the time . Asv was going to buy it back. were I work we got a new cat 289D the boom was off by 1in on one side . it was was great if you wanted fall going a certain way . Nobody said any thing when i found out our cat dealer R.P. said it was fine . one of i guys saw them changing a boom out on a one at dealer . The boss just dropped it we are still useing it we have 2 . The 287C has 5000 hrs 3rd set of tracks numerous hyd hoses blown . break a bucket release pin cly hose you you will lose alll your hyd fluid. I could go on get all brands togeather and do real world test not the BS video the manufactures make. thanks stanley keep the videos coming
Work in muddy conditions with wet clay in the winter and see how bad that asv freezes up and will not move. Or if it can move you will smoke the wheels and destroy the rollers. They are great for final grading and great floatation but for very heavy hard work the undercarriage does not hold up well and is 3 times the price for parts.
It would be interesting to know the long term maintenence cost of running each one are. I looked after a terex pt100g working inforestry with a fecon drum mulcher working mostly in sand for several years & undercarriage costs were horendous. Not to mention hyd pump drive coupling failures every 1000hrs.

Thank you !
Only ran one once, most comfortable skid ive ever ran, but found it acking torque.
I’d like to see the asv rt 120 vs cat 299 d both with forestery packages
It may not seem intuitive but, if you put the spout on top of the pour jug in stead of the bottom it will pour smoothly with out splashing or burping. This works with oil, antifreeze, water, Hydraulic fluid containers even gas cans. Try it.
Good tip Loren, thanks for watching !
Stanley is throwing a gender reveal party! Lol
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Markus Jason Instablaster :)
@Darian Ahmed thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Darian Ahmed it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
I love the editing style!! Awesome video!!
Appreciate it, thanks !
Asv looks like alot smother tracking unit. Would make a big difference in a 10 hr day
I demoed both asv and cat I went with a cat 289d3 over them all and I was super impressed with the new bobcat t76 or whatever it was awesome machine by the way dealer was the thing for me and not price also all within 5k of each other and I abused the hell out of each
Can't believe you picked the first cousin of the terex pt30 that you love so much...
Come back in 5 years and compare these two machines.
Cat easy lol
These machines won't last 5 years if they don't get new operators lol
In 5 years who cares? both machines will have made their owners alot of money and both will have been sold or traded in...
287 has same ASV bottom, awesome in snow tho lol
Different product line, but we stayed with Hitachi excavators because the CATs were way too gutless.
I think the stalking thing is the asv will deliver 100% power until it just stalls the engine. The cat starts to throttle the hydraulic pumps so it won’t stall the engine. (Like riding the clutch) someone correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what I’ve heard before from some people.
@@CarsonSchifsky you are correct, sir!
my opinion, cat and asv both have have good and bad points ,it also depends on the operator as well and how much experience they have. , but thats just my opinion
Good point Timothy, thanks for watching !
Thanks Trent!
Plowing beats trucks bad. You know this, man.
Cool how the ASV could turn 180 within it own tracks.
Put 2000 hours on each machine and try it again. You will have exactly what you paid for.
Wrong
@@richardoverbaugh4922 Right! Anyone reviewing a machine without MANY hours on it is just spitting in the wind and VERY BIASED!
Thanks for the comments Cameron
The guy on the cat doesn’t look like he has much experience
I think that may also be because like they said the cat does have a little delay and if you watch closely you can see that delay overall you can tell that the asv has a lot more power efficiency that the cat lacks
The drivers switched though so ...
I never ran ASV but I can't stand running CAT skid steer anything! The cat is slow, clunky, jerky and prefer foot controls for the bucket /boom operation. Like older new hollands
Great video, I like all the head to head videos you have been doing lately.
Thank you !!
Looks like the ASV has more hydraulic horsepower and the wider tracks sealed the Cats fate. As I see it, the ASV did lose the lift and dump head to head which surprised me. Was it just me or did the buckets look to be different sizes in that test?
Great comparison!👍 I’ve got a Cat 247B Track loader with a Cummings engine and ASV track system? Lots of power and traction !
Thanks Anton !
cummins*
I thought the ASV performed faster than the CAT. I have often wondered what a comparison between these 2 machines be like. Now I know.
I used to own an MD-70, POSI-TRAC.
Thanks for watching Bill !
No ASV dealer in our area. Central Valley in California. Our Cat dealer is awesome to work with,
Huh, good to know. Have a good dealer makes a world of difference👍
ASV hands down ! (or would that be bucket down?)
We have a 289D with a gyro trac 400 mulching head on it and it balances well, yes it’s a little ass heavy with just a bucket but full bucket or mulcher and it balances well.
I would like to see the 277 against the ASV as they have the same style undercarriage.
The ASV looks smooth and the CAT looks clunky. No matter who's the operator.
So you're comparing open cab vs enclosed. Radial lift vs vertical lift. And 2 completely different track systems. Just because they're same horsepower let's compare them. BTW why try a 287D cat same track system as ASV. Surprised most of the time your videos aren't so off.
I know!! All the cats from a 257 259 246 262 287 289 ate all 74 hp 😂
Compare the life and cost to replace the undercarriages. The Cat CTL will last longer and be cheaper per hour than the MTL undercarriage and can be used in less forgiving terrain.
I understand fully
Looks like a job site, and he just took advantage of what was on site for a video..
Thanks Daniel!
The undisputed champion ASV!
It would be good to see the CAT use the mulching head too! Great Video Guys. Good Commentary and Good comparison
When I need a skid steer or mini excavator it's a cat rental it's close to home comes on a trailer. 299 cat for 200 a day. 305 mini both cabbed for 250 sip fuel. And best part avail able. 24/7 with a quick call due to working relationship with rental dealer.
Great video, I love these types of content.
Shine on
Thanks Louis!
Very nice video, love your videos. Me and my dad have 2 Bobcats on our farm and are very pleased. Greetings from Sweden.
Hello Marcus, thank you for watching !
Not to bad of a video. I will say it's not just the machine its also the operator. Two different skill levels with them a good operator knows their rig very well. I'm not sold on the ASV I've ran em and cat. I'll still take a cat because I can make them dance around any other Skiddy.
Thanks Matt!
That giant bar you're complaining about is meant for higher bucket lift and the cat has a backup camera
That forestry head is WICKED! I want to play with one for awhile.
Faster controls and better speed is great... but which one has the run time without failure?
ASV also has hydraulic over hydraulic pilot controls vs the Cat electric over hydraulic, Ill take the Hydraulic over hydraulic any day
Yup, I like to tell the machine what I want it to do, not the other way around.
My CAT rep is hands down #1 in service and my cat machine was not higher than the other available brands in my area
A ton with water in it in my mind would be less volume than a dry ton (rain storm vs drought)
Just ranting from a guy who's local gravel pit went from selling by yard to ton and price doubled at least.
This was cool, I enjoyed it. I bet these opportunities don't come along very often, but what about putting the ASV against a Kubota, Deere, Volvo, Bobcat or a Takeuchi, then a 5-6 way test, That would really be something. JMO. Keep Em Coming.
Thank you Jeff and thanks for the suggestion !
yup pushing the piles back was good test
all comes down to the operator, if the machines have the same same specs there is no reason not to get the same performance, just saying
You are assuming that all manufacturers are honest with their specifications...
That's not the case.
Really good comparison review,I’m subscribed!
Thanks for the sub Franklin and glad to have you here!
That was an awesome test! Nice job👍
I totally agree. No matter the pros and cons you gotta go to a place with costumer service.
Thanks I’m definitely going ASV
Hey Stanley if you ever get the chance to come to Wisconsin you should check out delaneys surplus I know you would love it. It’s not any old surplus you could even make a video!
Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep it in mind !
I go there every week!
I don't recall ever leaving there empty handed lol.
I would say this was a really cool video but the guys that's actually out there running these is where the honest reviews come through still a cool video no doubt about it 👊👊👊👍👍👍👍👍
my local council have bean using ASV for years they seam to never have a problem with them. but i like my JCB.
Amazing video, Thank you. I went and looked at the ASV VT100 today. I am sold. I am trading in my one year old Bobcat T770.
COMPARE THE ASV 120 VS CAT 299D2XHP/BOBCAT T870
Looks like a lot of fun, and hilarious to watch! :D Thanks!
Thank you !
I think you mean the 257D, which has the ASV undercarriage.
@@spidyr2k correct. The xx7 series cats have the asv undercarriage.... that's what I get for typing while half asleep
Garbage.
That was wicked
You guys deserve respect
It was a real clash
❤️ IT
What a character- love it !
Very entertaining
Thank you !
To be honest its operators choice to which what machine you like. I love our cases at work and there amazing machines!
Very true Antonio, thanks for watching !
Thanks for the comments Richard !
Once again Late to the channel. Had a snow day today (we don’t snow plow in okc)and did nothing but watched your videos on learning better business practices etc. watching this video and seeing the ASV machine I’m
Impressed(especially coupled with all the other ASV videos you’ve done). Our local dealer is a big truck thermo king dealer(refer trucks/trailers). Are all ASV dealers set up with multiple lines of equipment? I’ve always run Bobcats outside of rental machines and this next year I’ll be buying a machine. I’m a pool builder/landscaper. Thanks for all the info!
We take our asv to cat all the time and they always work on it, a lot of the parts are interchangeable.
That tracks are actually designed and manufactured by cat, many of their tracked machines have the same track system.
Mason Stansberry actually Cat’s MTL undercarriage is manufactured by ASV
Do the push and pull test on hard pack dirt
Thanks , will do !
5K hours and 3 sets of tracks thats pretty damn good.
super video boys, Love the ASV, you think it would be worth it to put the ASV against the JCB?
Can you do comparison between a skid steer and the popular compact tractors that are becoming popular.
11:45 the workers in the back are like- hey guys so are we going to build this house or what?
Work in muddy conditions with wet clay in the winter and see how bad that asv freezes up and will not move. Or if it can move you will smoke the wheels and destroy the rollers. They are great for final grading and great floatation but for very heavy hard work the undercarriage does not hold up well and is 3 times the price for parts.
guys thanks this did help me a lot did not know what to buy but I do now.
It would be interesting to know the long term maintenence cost of running each one are. I looked after a terex pt100g working inforestry with a fecon drum mulcher working mostly in sand for several years & undercarriage costs were horendous. Not to mention hyd pump drive coupling failures every 1000hrs.
I've never heard of asv before, looks like a good machine but what is the dealer network like
Have you checked out the new(ish) Wacker Nueson skid loader or track loader? No dpf, crazy warranty, Kohler diesel, but I’ve never seen one on a job site around here. It would be really interesting to see you do a review on one.
I will keep it in mind, thanks Mike !
