I'm late to the party here. I wish I would have seen this review before I purchased this thing. I got it for one reason and that is to run Adobe Lightroom for photo processing. It crashes like someone pulled the plug. It is repeatable. The bio update did nothing. I purchased through Amazon in Canada and well past the return date. Minisforum was returning my emails while I was trying to find a fix. I asked for a refund almost a week ago and I have't heard a word back where previously I would email during the day and get a reply every morning. I am no expert on computers. I do understand that this machine in concept is a laptop without periferals built in. So I have a question. Would it be possible to gut the case and istall the components in a larger case with better thermals and give it a larger power supply? Probable a dumb question for someone in the know, but I'm not one of those people. Thanks for the useful info.

Yes, bios update is the fix I just got, which must lower the power limit. But it needs 150W power supply, I did see it use over the 120W.

@@Horvat04 I'm here because I love tech, however, it may be fine for you, but people who're buying one, they only have specs on paper. Now, if they undervolt the CPU, depending on the case it can be from 5-25% performance loss. This video is too old to remember all the details, however, people who are actually buying one of those should be aware that real life and performance on paper don't match. It's like lowering the brightness of the phone screen without an option for increasing it again.

Much as I love Minisforum for their variety of models, I can't help but think that they are making life hard for themselves with the constantly changing lineup. The pressure on the designers and testing team must be huge because it looks like they have to commit to manufacture before they've been able to test them properly. They do seem to fix problems later on in production, but it makes it risky for the buyer, who is already taking a bit of a gamble. A year or two ago they would just have a single box design and develop that as they improved the processors. That didn't give you much reason to upgrade, but it had to make it easier to design. Might skip this model, but maybe the next one?
    Thanks for the review!

Thank you for that review. And recently I started to seek for machine to replace that old buddy so the algo actually "knows" what I'm after, this brought me here again. There's a hard choice between Morefine and Minisforum now, still can't decide - go for a cheaper (but perfectly fine overall for my needs) M600 or wait for UM790 whose price is nuts. Impeccable as always Chris. Btw have you seen that Huawei Matebook E Go that has an ARM processor? It's the 8cx gen 3 which is supposed to perform well and give you like 12 hour battery. So, I'm actually more excited about the gen 4 that should be coming soon and will supposedly perform similarly to Apple's M1.
I know Apple won't add Mac OS to their mobile devices but once we start seeing these ultra efficient chips optimized for windows I expect these open-minded Chinese companies to somehow add Windows 11 to a mobile phone with USB 3 or above and instead of using a mini PC like this for most things, you could just plug your phone to a monitor and peripherals.

@@Techtablets was excited for this intel pc, but performance not as expectedly good, looks more like a media player PC than a working PC.

Draw nearly 50% more power but game performance less than Ryzen 7840hs about 20%.
That's not good! Especially, when AMD catch up and even better at video encoding.

RDNA3 780M is a lot better than Iris Xe. But wait for the 14th Gen iGPU it should be even better.

@TechTablets That's next year noone gonna know.
But I hope Intel would pull off their next gen iGPU

You are partially right. But video encoding and decoding is independent of GPU!! It is driven by HW decoding engines, with around 350-600 fps, CPU and GPU nearly at idle.

Good review. Why would anyone buy a PC that resets under load? This machine requires a 150w psu. Typical MF issue.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

They have issued a new bios update to fix the issue. I'll test it soon. My guess is it lowers the power limits.

    HelloTech tablets !
You are simply repeating a common mistake of everyone who has been wearing the shackles of the Windows system on their feet for a long time. It degrades and goes away.
Just really master the Linux system. And then any new computer equipment will work properly and without problems.
