Hater This is an other article I found if that helps (from the Time) How many horses did you use for War Horse? And how do you get them to all look alike? We trained 14 horses of all ages and sizes but only ended up using about 10. War Horse follows the horse from a foal to adulthood, so we could fudge on sizes a bit. But color is important. We used Andalusians, warm bloods and only one thoroughbred - my personal horse, Finder. You try to get horses with a similar natural color but if not, you can always use makeup.
I’ve met one of the horses that play Joey and he’s trained to be used for stunts, jousting and all sorts, the guy I saw riding him was doing trick riding and they even had the Lloyds tsb and a grey stallion used for some films there it was incredible to watch

Holup. Name is War Horse? I'm seeing SO many scenes from Spirit here. Only with small changes. First the Tank scene. Spirit jumped over the cannon. The fire scene. Spirit caused it by the trains colliding and ended up stuck. My Lord, I'm freaking out. I'm finding this movie and watching it. Now.
How these horses were treated back then is horrible leave them alone and let them be free i would never louse this out of my mind of abused horses I’m gonna everything in my power to never let anyone hurt horses and if I find out someone has there gonna be in heaven

For anyone asking questions, No, they did not use a puppet. The puppet was used in the war horse pre-show and not the actual film. The film is cgi and the real horses. I hope this helps confusion
Now these days crazy horse people separate the foals from their mothers at 6 weeks its crazy. It used to be you won't even touch a horse til it was 4 to 5 years old.
Watched a Robin Hood movie last year, (too much fighting, with some romance thrown in, for me to enjoy it) I was shocked at how the horses were used. I've worked with horses since about ever since I can walk, and I really can't imagine how they got them to do all those wild rides. And there were so many falls...!
I've never heard of foals seperated at 6 weeks! Even puppies and kittens aren't seperated that young. They are recommended to be seperated from their mother only when they are 12 weeks, sometimes 8. I think you mean foals are being seperated at 6 _months,_ but that's not bad if you ask me. By then the foal is already quite big and can be weaned. The only need for their mother at that age is to be taught manners. Most mares stop caring about their offspring when they're yearlings, so they are not missing their foals. They move on, and in the wild, they'd already be pregnant again.
@@iclynnx actually horses create tight bonds and mares and their female foals live their whole lives together. All mother mares wean at different times and it's because the foal starts to grow teeth and it hurts. But the mare will still be with the foal even after it's weaned and with another baby. The older foal becomes more independent as it starts to learn the higharky of the herd and plays with the other members. But till always go back to it's mom once and a while. The exceptions are of the filly gets stolen by another stallion or accidentally separated. And with the colts tho it varies but it's in between 1 and 2 years of age when they're chased out of the herd but they'll follow the herd for a while before going into a batchler herd.

I know horses do form bonds and can deeply miss eachother, but I have not heard of a case where the mother misses her foal after it's grown up and seperated. That's why I said what I said. It feels like it's simply the circle of life for mare horses. Breed, foal, wean, and repeat. They don't seem that bothered by it.

They used multiple horses, each of them trained to have a certain attitude. I read in an article that they used something like 20 different horses.
But the horse looks the same how is that possible if they used different horses?
