Few things to note for future reference- the transmission is not a DQ500 that's only in the RS3 and TTRS. The DSG in the B8.5 is the DL501 (DQ is transverse DL is longitudinal). Also, premium plus models also come with drive select and other options that the Prestige has. Other than that- great, informative video! Helped me out with gathering owner perspective before purchasing a B8.5 S5.
I have a 2007 A5 3.0 TDI quattro sport, 126,000 miles on it. Had it tuned recently, only stage 1, has about 300hp, not sure what the torque figure is. The car looks and drives so well, and driving in the UK and Ireland the fuel economy is excellent (relatively speaking). Probably would've already gotten myself an S5 by now, but I'm now torn because this diesel is so good. 😂
I have a 2013 S5 with 20 Vossen wheels on HR springs all carbon exterior looks amazing. Stage 2 plus with valved ECS exhaust great for cruising no drone closed, opened its much louder than your setup which I only run while paddle shifting to control the sound to exact perfection. This car is worth much more than its selling for, nothing else out there better bang for the buck by a long shot. I'm at 42k miles and have all the best parts on the car, would not let it go for anything less than what I paid. Prices should go up on these as its the most reliable engine trans combos to come from Audi ever and IMO the best looking as well. These cars are no joke good luck finding something better for the money.... You wont.
Great Video, I own one in Phantom Black Pearl, spotless as I love to keep it in showroom condition. I have also done a slight upgrade in a stage 1 tune with a valvetronic exhaust system. Overall, to your point, it is an extremely beautiful and timeless design. Interior is the swan song as its a beautiful and rich place to be in. I've had mine for over a year and a bit and I love it 😀
I’m right in the 100k km range and have spent about 5k in maintenance in the last 12 months, most of the aforementioned in your video. But mine also looks like new and runs like stink, worth the upkeep in my opinion, future classics!
They all run like shyt.. he even said he spent 10k on the car right after he got it. In reality he probably spent more and it isn't even his daily. Audi is probably the worse car after SAAB, VW, Bentley, Maserati.
Beautiful S5 mate 👌 B8.5 S4 here 6MT. Bought it in April '21 with 24K and currently at 38K. IE stage 1 with other supporting mods. Just installed a JXB short shifter. Love my S4. No touchscreens, tons of character and soul....and it makes whiny bitch noises that turn heads everywhere 😅😅 Can't see me ever selling it 💙🍻
Good video. Good info. Personally I am going to buy s4 b8.5 next month, but one thing I’ve noticed about audi drive select that you mentioned. Not every but most of premium plus trim level audi s4/s5 b8.5 also have drive select modes.
Yes. There are certain options that you could get from the dealer at that time. Premium plus cars had Prestige options. But overall you’ll find that Prestige trims exclusively came with that selection.
S5 was my dream car at 20 too, very simple straightforward design very beautiful and affordable in that price. But I went for Lexus Gs due to I need a car can last longer.
I've got the '14 A6 same platform, the oil leaks are absolutely a nightmare, my second A6 and same oil leaks regardless of year. It is a great engine though, i'm nearly 100k miles w/ ironically the same o34 tune, and intake. It's a great car. I was looking at the 2020-1 S5 and this model hangs with it especially post o34 tune, I was kinda disappointed with it.
Im ready to get a B8.5 as well. Im looking for a 6spd manual, i already have two automatic sedans and ready for a nice little fun manual coupe to toss around. Hopefully i come around a nice one for good price before the summer time! Thanks for the great review!
True! However, it lacks heavily in the reliability, technology, and overall timeless aspect of “newer design styles” The 2013 Audi RS5 would be perfect for you
@@tejanpillay8245 Lots and Lots of improvements came with the facelift. More than a lot of people know actually. Facelift was a giant upgrade, then came the updated MMI Systems with Bluetooth and other various amazing capabilities. Engines were seriously refined, all types and things were basically perfected. The only way I’d say the B8 S5 is better, is purely with the manual option. But then again, if you are willing to go through the troubles, just pair the manual to the B8.5 RS5 model
@@leon__feinstein I own A6 Allroad C7 with same engine and same gearbox. Main problems for these cars and this engine IMO are: - Carter Ventilation Vane and oil separator (increases oil consumption when broken) - Catalytic Neutralizer (exhaust too hot, destroys the ceramics, no turbo to stop engine sucking ceramic dust in cylinders, damages the cylinder coating, increase oil consumption) - Gearbox Overall Kit is pricy (2500-4500 USD) - Rear differential with torque vectoring requires maintenance and oil change once a year or will became pain in the ass - Overheating and hot intake air temperatures (wash radiators once a year or two or install split contours for supercharger and engine)
@@leon__feinsteinIs it that expensive to own one because I am trying to figure out what kind of car I wanna get, Subaru, and AWD Camry or a Audi depending on how expensive it is to own. What would you recommend trying to get some ideas?
@@michaelgabel960 AWD Camry would save you money indefinitely. Audi will drain your soul, bank account, and mental health at the cost of having a cool car. And Subarus are significantly worse if you get anything before 2015 I recommend staying in the Honda, Toyota, and even Nissan route. Mustangs or Camaros aren’t a bad choice either. Choose something that’s cool but not at the cost of draining your bank account.
Love this car. Personally I prefer the manual v8 which is in the era before this one. Ive had this year and loved it. Just wasn’t the prestige package haha.
Great video. You mentioned oil leaks @3:38 can you elaborate on that ? Also you said that the upper chain tensioner can be done without removing then engine ? I'm just curious where have you seen that, because mine is rattling and the only offers i get is to remove the engine, which costs a ton.
Thanks! So yes, to elaborate on the oil leaks. The 3.0T has a strong balance of coolant and oil leak issues. Primarily, if you push the car hard overtime - you will have the plastic pieces on the engine crack, break, snap, and blow over time. This is usually when the car is 7-15 years old. Valve Cover Gaskets, Thermostat, PCV, all plastic components that tend to fail at a certain point in the cars life. As for the timing chains, the upper ones do not need to be removed in order to be re-tensioned. As for replacing them, I am unsure. That may be an engine out issue.
I absolutely love my s5. It really sucks how expensive it is to insure these. My insurance company has been raising it by $140 a year. It’s dumb that my car cost more than my house to insure. Probably the only reason I will get rid of it.
I have an interesting deal. Buddy of mine specializes in selling / building Audi’s especially 3.0T’s. He’s letting me have a fully specced 2014 s4 for 14k. But it does have a motor from a 2012 a6 same 3.0T. Trans has 120k and they did all the preventative maintenance to the new motor b4 putting it in. Should I get it ? Plus they can do repairs on it for me for a better deal.
Hello, I currently own the same car same gen and everything and would like to buy a 034 stage one tune and an intake. Where did you get your intake from because it looks to be big in diameter allowing lots of air. I was looking into a 034 intake but they get quite pricey. Is your exhaust loud enough to attract people you wouldn't want attracting? Also does your exhaust remove any of the muffling systems such as the resonator, muffler and straight pipe?
The Intake I have is from I.E (Integrated Engineering) I got it for $350 (without the carbon fiber cover, do not get the cover it makes the supercharger more quiet) it also costs $650😂. I have the AWE Track Exhaust, and it only gets loud if you go into sport mode, during comfort mode it sits under 2,500 rpm and makes very mild noise. It deletes both the muffler and all resonators yes. For the tune, I bought it with the Stage 1 034 and the car did not come with a transmission tune. You do not need to upgrade the transmission in order to achieve stage 1 power out of the motor. However, once you go stage 2, that’s when you’ve gotta upgrade everything over the moon.
Trying to find your insta, I was the kid last year at cars and coffee with the black a7 if you remember I just got a white s5 because of how much I liked yours when you showed me. We would always see eachother driving in aurora glad to come across your video g🤙
I drive it over 4,000 rpm from time to time. I usually shift at around 3,500 to 4,000. I’ve pushed this motor hard, gaskets and all types of things have started breaking once I did that😅
Your mechatronics unit might have failed, and or mice chewed through your wires. A friend of mine experienced this with his S5. Audis have some common issues with mechatronics units in the old generation in which you have. If it isn’t the issue, check for chewed up wires. Best to get the car on a lift
You should watch craig from flying wheels, i kept warning him. He got a bunch of audis and he loves them all and out of all his Audi's, even his a8 needed a engine out jon at 70k miles, sure the 4cyl 2.0t only made to last 60k miles tops if your lucky but the v8 you would think would last past 70k. Audi spends a lot of money on the interior and no money on anything else like the engine! And that's just to suck in the suckers.
@@leon__feinstein im in the process (hopefully) of buying a 2014 A5 Sline (3.0 supercharged), seats look mint in the pictures, ill try my best to keep them that way too 🤣.
In terms of the material quality of both the A and S Models. The S models 100% take the win, they have more metal and valuable materials all throughout the car. The plastic in the car is a lot different compared to other plastics. It’s a lot higher material, and from my experience no squeaking at all. The door handles are also made of metal.
Dependent on Mileage. Any types of problems may arise. This car is an average of $5,000 a year to fix. In my personal experience, I have spent over $7,000 in Shop Charges for parts that normally break after 10 years of use. If this car won’t be your daily, I recommend getting it. But if it will, just have an emergency fund just in case
I bought this at 16. Had a great experience with it. But if you are as picky about issues as I am, please do not get it. I have extreme OCD when it comes to the perfected condition of my cars, and with that comes noticing in every minor leak, dent, scratch, etc: Hence the reason why I also spent $10,000+ already on this car to maintain it. Then again, I did buy it at a significant mileage point and notable maintanence issues are starting to go at that type of age point. Buy a Honda or Lexus as your first car, or whatever car you get next. It’ll save you a headache. If getting a car like this to increase your status amongst a certain community you are around and you use it correctly in branding and marketing, it may be worth it. Similar to how I love cars, but also use my S5 as a brand and everything around it to help me achieve certain things in life.

@@bountyhunterd3001 v8 s5 is a time bomb. My car, which is the updated 3.0T series is notably the most reliable Audi motor. Regardless of reliability however, it’s labor and German parts that will kill you in cost over time. Go for a newer car with warranties still available. Or just get a B58 BMW😂

Looks like you have nothing better to do than trash on other peoples cars and the best German brands out to date. I agree with the fact that this car, as well as pretty much every German car is a lot less reliable than the toyota and honda like counterparts. However, that's not why you buy one of these cars. Its craftsmanship, engine, interior, and exterior is what makes it all special and counter balances its unreliability.

I love my 2015 s5 , best thing I've ever owned !!!!!
Even the 2008 looks extremely similar to a lot of the newest interiors🔥🔥
You wont.

Yes sir! I myself got me an 2014 RS5 beautiful machines!
Your right re the interior. I have an rs3 8p....and the interior is very much the same
Great build quality...no touchscreens....timeless interior.
I've had mine for over a year and a bit and I love it 😀
I got mine 2 years ago, no issues. Heavily modded with APR

One thing with Audi don’t age. Love this car
Beautiful S5 mate 👌 B8.5 S4 here 6MT. Bought it in April '21 with 24K and currently at 38K. IE stage 1 with other supporting mods. Just installed a JXB short shifter. Love my S4. Good video.
Love the editing bro xD Great video, very informational and well composed!!

S5 was my dream car at 20 too, very simple straightforward design very beautiful and affordable in that price. But I went for Lexus Gs due to I need a car can last longer.

It is a great engine though, i'm nearly 100k miles w/ ironically the same o34 tune, and intake. It's a great car. I was looking at the 2020-1 S5 and this model hangs with it especially post o34 tune, I was kinda disappointed with it.

@leon__feinstein The RS5 didn't come in manual though. Also the B8 S5 looked almost the same as the 8.5 . Mostly headlight change?

@@leon__feinstein I own A6 Allroad C7 with same engine and same gearbox.
Main problems for these cars and this engine IMO are:
- Carter Ventilation Vane and oil separator (increases oil consumption when broken)
- Catalytic Neutralizer (exhaust too hot, destroys the ceramics, no turbo to stop engine sucking ceramic dust in cylinders, damages the cylinder coating, increase oil consumption)
- Gearbox Overall Kit is pricy (2500-4500 USD)
- Rear differential with torque vectoring requires maintenance and oil change once a year or will became pain in the ass
- Overheating and hot intake air temperatures (wash radiators once a year or two or install split contours for supercharger and engine)
No wrong dq500 is also a 7 speed but placed in the RS3
Also my interior is different. It’s two tone.

Audi will drain your soul, bank account, and mental health at the cost of having a cool car.

$10,000 price tag plus $7,000 repair costs over 10 years? That’s not so bad for what you’re getting.
@@hstaff3336 that’s estimated. Mine turned out to be. $26,000 price cost, and $18,000 repair cost in 2 years
I absolutely love my s5. It really sucks how expensive it is to insure these. My insurance company has been raising it by $140 a year. It’s dumb that my car cost more than my house to insure. Probably the only reason I will get rid of it.

Do you have to start altering your transmission with just a stage 1 tune?
The Intake I have is from I.E (Integrated Engineering)
I got it for $350 (without the carbon fiber cover, do not get the cover it makes the supercharger more quiet) it also costs $650😂.

Your mechatronics unit might have failed, and or mice chewed through your wires. A friend of mine experienced this with his S5.
Audis have some common issues with mechatronics units in the old generation in which you have. If it isn’t the issue, check for chewed up wires.

You should watch craig from flying wheels, i kept warning him. In terms of the material quality of both the A and S Models. The S models 100% take the win, they have more metal and valuable materials all throughout the car.

Same mine has 80k now and spend about 7k already this year

I’m 18 years old u think I should be lookin at this type of car mainly speaking about costs of having it
I bought this at 16. Had a great experience with it. But if you are as picky about issues as I am, please do not get it. I have extreme OCD when it comes to the perfected condition of my cars, and with that comes noticing in every minor leak, dent, scratch, etc:
Hence the reason why I also spent $10,000+ already on this car to maintain it.
