Whipping West Oahu

- Today I decided to do some dawn patrol out at the west side of Oahu. Beautiful morning and the fish was active. Small kine multi species catch whipping grubs along the shoreline.

Nice ride and fish out the west side. I like the drive, I like the people and I like the fishing grounds. Again, I like seeing "catch and release" and enjoy the action. As for me, even if the papio is legal size I just make sure its O.K. and tell come back when you grow some more. I go further out towards the Kaena Beach Park and walk the shoreline. All rocky and not too many go whipping out there due to same. Action is varies and sometimes what you get hooked up with varies as well...papio, lai, nunu (trumpet fish). But even on the days you don't get chase or hook up...it's a nice walk and I pick up whatever trash I come across and leave the area as best as I can. Then there are times that you see some ulua who chase and turn away. One time there was a huge ulua that went after my large bubble float (I had loaded it with some bb's; rattle)...twice and then on third cast took the lure but hook wasn't set...there was no fourth time. Next time...Good Luck! 🤙

How do you keep your leader not twisting over your mainline when whipping. I always gotta untangle it. Any suggestions ?
Always get tangled as well. When get tangled stretch out your leader. To kinda avoid tangles, close bail right before the lead hit water to allow the bait to slingshot past the lead

When whipping grubs 12. For flies 15-30. Mainly fluorocarbon. Lead will depend on what your pole can handle.
Damn how big is that rod. Ive been using a 7 foot and I feel like it doesn’t cast as far as I’d like it to. Idk if it’s just my form or if it’s because it’s too short
If your whipping, a rod 9’ and above will definitely help you get distance.
