Sam, you are correct. I have been lasering for 3 or 4 years now, and I just kinda shoot from the hip when setting the speed and power. Most of the time, I get it spot on. And some time, I make a learning experience. 😂 A few weeks ago, I 3D printed an ornament holder for someone so they could laser engrave on ornaments. I guess I should make one for myself. I have some ideas floating around in my head for some laser engraved ornaments to make this year. The great thing about this hobby, or small business, is that there is a lot of talent out there and the demand is high for personalized ornaments. Just a side note, Scroungers Paradise did not get destroyed by the hurricane. They are open every day.
Creative Fabrica is amazing! I have been using them for more than a year also. What is great is that many items include licenses which allows commercial use!
The jigs are great. Tip: you can use tempura paint on the ornaments before engraving. This paint washes off easily after you finish your laser magic. I'm from out of country so no need for me to be mean grinching 😂. Thanks for educating us.
I just started doing these also on my regular F1. What worked for me on a 2.5" ornament is... I did image size 1.7". First pass Blue Light, 60% power, 700 speed, 300 DPI. A second clean up pass with IR at 100% power, 400 speed, 300 DPI. Also I was fighting with the paint. My best option so far is to paint the inside with a Q-Tip. You can just dab it on the engraved part and also bend it to get to the hard to get places. May not work for everyone but it's working for me.
Great video Sam...My experience of have doing hundreds of christmas balls si, yes blue diode for the win,and next paint inside (arcrylic) DO NOT ADD WATER to your paint it will flake off when dry, your customers will not be happy...To spread the paint is to tap the ball in the palm of your hand, and after that when it's all spread out place your ball upside down (opening towards bottom to let out the excess paint and let dry 24 hours or you cah speed up the process with a heatgun (blow in small bursts through the opening of the ball)...
Fantastic! Oh yeah, we’ve been putting paint in Christmas bulbs forever just thin it down a little you can use glitter glitter paint works good. That’s the method you squeeze it in and shake it up.
Great TH-cam Sam I don't have a Xtool but a 40w diode and learned Heaps, a suggestion for you 3d print a replacement cap to allow a led Xmas light to insert. Greg from down under
Sam, Sam, Sam….I love the jigs that you make. I wish I had the XTool Ultra just so I could buy the jigs! 😅 …and for other reasons. LOL LOL LOL excellent video. Thanks for all that you do and for sharing.
If you dilute your paint before you put it into the ornament and then instead of shaking it just roll it to slush the paint around the inside you'll get a much better result. Then you can pour out the extra paint and let them dry.
I wonder how tinsel or garland would look on the inside of the cream colored ornament? Always impressed with these videos. I watch even though I don't have a laser engraver. You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
Spray paint works great. if there is paint or finish on the inside, running the engrave 2 times should remove that inside paint. This is since the Blue diode passes through the clear glass after removing the exterior finish on the 1st pass.
Thanks for an other great video. Have you tried to use masking tape when you laser the ornament and then use the remaining tape as a paint mask, spray paint should give you a good contrast. Of course that makes it look lie you just painted the exterior of the ball. This sounded better in my brain than when I wrote it down. :)
I love this video and eager to get the jig. I had a quick question and it may be a dumb one. I am still new to laser and everything so here goes. I do not have the f1 yet. I have the tool s1 d1 pro and p2. I was wondering if this will work on a honeycomb using the magnetic clips on these machines? Eager to learn more from your videos.
There are three main considerations for using this jig on a different laser: 1. Do you have a way to secure the jig base to your laser securely? 2. Do you have the vertical clearance for this jig and the ornaments to fit? 3. You will need to work out the software side for alignment.
Great video as always! Would it be possible to make a video on the glass ornaments using a diode laser with or without a rotary for those that don't own a Xtool F1 Laser machine. Thanks
You're a mean one Mr. Grinch. I'm wondering if diluting the paint with a bit of water prior to adding it to the ball would help. It would flow easier and use less paint; as long as you didn't dilute it so far that it didn't give consistent coverage. Also, do you have any Black Friday discounts coming up? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for the great video. Is the curved feature available for the X1? It wasn’t clear from your video. I am having a terrible time decorating ornaments on my F1. And you’re a mean one, Mr Grinch!
Ball holders! 🤪 I'm wondering why you painted the mirror finished ones. Why not just focus on a regular flat one of the same size? Have you tried painting the outside? I would guess the paint would wipe off the finished surface while adhering to the ablated area.
You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!! Question, is the curved surface processing mode only for the Ultra? I have the F1, it is not showing the curved surface and I have the latest version, according to my Checking Updates and matching it to what is showing on xTool's website. Help?
Hi another great video I was following along with you video I updated my software but I don't have the curved material option I'm using version 2.2.23 using F1 Please advise thanks
F*** dude I literally just spent $150 on etsy yesterday buying a bunch of designs that apparently all came from this website. I wish I would have seen you yesterday. I'm still ging to sign up but I could of saved a bunch of money if I had seen you yesterday
I don't use paint anymore on any mirrored surface for laser engraving. I use a powder puff and talcum powder. The same stuff that every grandmother had with her cosmetic stuff. I picked up a cheap gift set at the local dollar store.
@@Samcraftcom First off, you do some really great videos! Thanks for all the tips I have used from your videos. Hope this is a tip you can use. Using the powder speeds up my workflow immensely when engraving shiny items. It takes a second to apply, no drying time and cleans up just as fast. Again thanks for all the helpful tips you have posted over the years. Roy
What about bending a pipe cleaner to match the curvature of the ball, put in the paint, stick the curved part of pipe cleaner inside, then use a power drill to spin the pipe cleaner inside.
For the paint, why not use an unused ornament holder to lay it on its side since glass is difficult to coat? I imagine finding the right consistency for the paint will help as well.
How about using compressed air -- a compressor might be too much but the cans you use to blow junk out of a computer keyboard? You are a mean one Mr. Grinch.
I dunno, I suspect my customers would have a problem with getting their balls laser engraved, but you never know. There's a market for everything these days.

I totally agree!
You have great ideas, you’re so genuine in your videos and I also get a good laugh every now and then 😂.
I'm glad you enjoy my videos! I put a lot of effort into making them informative and entertaining.
I did my first ornament using your jig last night and it came out great.
That's awesome to hear! I'm glad you had a good experience with the jig.
The jigs are great. Tip: you can use tempura paint on the ornaments before engraving. This paint washes off easily after you finish your laser magic. I'm from out of country so no need for me to be mean grinching 😂. Thanks for educating us.
A light inside the white ornament would make the engraving pop. You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. Thanks, Sam. ❤
Glad to hear that the Commarker jigs are coming on stream shortly. Thanks for this Christmas video.
Just with watching your videos I ended up buying $130 worth of your jigs . Excellent video and products!!!
Interesting testing. I’m glad I watched before testing on my own. You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch!

Thanks for the tip about the paint! I'll definitely keep that in mind for future projects.
Yes, directly from the hip! Merry Christmas Sam.
I knew I wasn't alone! Merry Christmas to you too!
Love your videos! Enjoyed this one very much, and you are correct, shoot from the hip! You’re a mean one, Mister Grinch!

Awesome, Thank you for the video. What laser would you recommend for engraving silicone pens? thank you
You're a mean one Mr. Grinch. Thanks for the settings. You DO know how we roll on these.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope your projects turn out great!

I'm so glad you like the video, and I'm happy to share what I know!
I don't know if you are a mean one, but, you are entertaining. Very informative as well. I'll be ordering some of your jigs for sure.
I'm glad you find my videos entertaining and informative! Thanks for the support!
Great Video Sam, keep it up!
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch! 🌲
Great video - thank you! Do you have a recommendation for protective eyewear?

I've been told to use isopropyl alcohol. It evaporates quickly
Amazing work Sam
I would love to see how it is done on the P2. You're a mean one Mr. Grinch!
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch! lol. Great video, liked and subbed!
I appreciate that! 😊

Sam, what about the white tile zinc spray paint technique on those? You’re a mean one!
Your a mean one Mr. Grinch
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch
This the paint out so it moves a lot easier. And... build a ornament tumbler (or rotator)!
Will a frame type laser work on the balls, like a Creality Falcon2or for the curve engraving or is it strictly for the Xtool?
I am thinking a perfect way to paint that would be an extension tip of some kind for spray paint. Ideally a right angle one.
You’re a mean one mister grinch.
So would you jig also work in a s1 40w. Would you have the same results?
Does this fit inside the F1 space? Also you’re a mean one Mr. Grinch!

Amazing are you selling the bulbs?
You're a mean on Mr. Grinch....any chance you are working on jigs/fixtures for the Roly Lasermatic MK2?
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
Do you plan on making this type of jig for the P2S?
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch…thanks
Can this be used with the xtool s1?
Hi another great video I was following along with you video I updated my software but I don't have the curved material option I'm using version 2.2.23 using F1
Please advise thanks
From what I've heard from others, the curved engraving is only for the F1 Ultra.
Yeah, I'd like a couple of the big 80mm ball holders please. Thats just wrong Sam.
Oh, and you're a mean one Mr. Ginger.
You know, Grinch was only a mean one at the beginning. By the end he had Christmas spirit
This was done using the blue diode and not fiber? Correct?
Yes
You're right, the blue diode is what I used.
F*** dude I literally just spent $150 on etsy yesterday buying a bunch of designs that apparently all came from this website. I wish I would have seen you yesterday. I'm still ging to sign up but I could of saved a bunch of money if I had seen you yesterday
I would love if you could make one for gantry Laser ( diode )
Any plans for an F1 jig?
What about putting the paint in the ornament and spinning it instead of trying to shake it?
Would it help mixing the acrylic paint with a little PVA glue 🤔
I honestly don't know, but it's worth a shot!
Will the jig work with the D1 Pro?
I don't use paint anymore on any mirrored surface for laser engraving. I use a powder puff and talcum powder. The same stuff that every grandmother had with her cosmetic stuff. I picked up a cheap gift set at the local dollar store.
That's a great tip! I've never heard of using talcum powder before, but it makes sense!

could you do this with a diode frame based laser like a atomstack?
What about bending a pipe cleaner to match the curvature of the ball, put in the paint, stick the curved part of pipe cleaner inside, then use a power drill to spin the pipe cleaner inside.
Can these jigs work with the WeCreat Viision
Ah the risk of throwing it out of your hand. I'm guilty. Hahaha
Do you have any package deals
That Thunder Laser seems to be a very expensive shelf at the moment lol

How do you convert a jpg to svg using the xtool app? thanks in advance.
Hi Sam, can I do this on the F1?
I'd like to know too. My first attempt didn't go so well.
My suggestion would be spray paint with a 360 degree replacement tip
That's a great idea!
can we buy just the files? no need to buy the jig when I have a printer
I don't sell any 3D print files.
You’re a mean one Me. Grinch
Add a little modge podge instead of water
Mean, no that's not it. You're a wise one Sam.
Stick a miniature led Christmas light in the bulb.
I like the idea of making the ornaments light up!
Very attractive but the missing apostrophe would make it a no for me.
Maby you can use masking liquid. Outside of the glass Ball. After use you can just remove the mask.
You’re a mean on Mr Grinch
I dunno, I suspect my customers would have a problem with getting their balls laser engraved, but you never know. There's a market for everything these days.
💖
What? who?!! me?
Why, I have nev…. yeah, that is all of us.
I can tell you from experience, don’t try spray paint 😂
Does anyone here not have a 3d printer and basic fusion360 or SW experience? I'm just curious.
