I bought my 10/22 in May of 1977 at The Grant Boy's in Costa Mesa CA. It was $47 & change out the door. I was 16 and I don't think I even needed an adult with me to purchase it. Probably the best $47 I ever spent. Like yours, it has been all over the lower 48 & even spent a summer in Alaska & British Columbia in '82. Out of all the firearms I've owned, it has remained the most reliable, dependable and fun gun, as well as the entry-level rifle for all 8 of my kids. It simply rocks.

Dude...if they brought back the Ruger .44 Deerstalker and made a 20+ round BX mag and the aftermarket companies got behind it they would sell like hotcakes. I'd be first in line.

Great video! I have a 10/22 with a stainless steel, 16" threaded barrel. Absolutely love it. One of the best purchases I've ever made. Practical, reliable, accurate, and just a *joy* to shoot.

I have a similar relationship with the Ruger 10/22. I got it when I was about 11 years old from my father after I demonstrated responsibility with air rifles and BB guns. I still have it and will never part with it. I may love many of the pistols/rifles/shotguns that have come my way, but my 10/22 will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for posting this video. :)

Thanks, man. I'm just getting into rifles and have been considering 10/22. I needed info on capacity options and you were very helpful. I like the idea of putting one of those low profile red-dot sights on it if it can take one. Planning to use it as primary home defense by my chair with either Aguila ammo or Stinger.

I was goin for the Mossberg Tactical .22 but couldnt find it anywhere so i decided to go with the Ruger 10/22 and im SOOOO glad i did. From every thing i've read, this is the best .22 money can buy and everyone should own one! 3 more days til it fires for the first time!

Hey Nut'n Fancy, because of your videos, I bought another 10-22!!! I had one before that I "gifted" to my uncle some years ago. It had the classic wood stock. Thanks to your videos, I went out and bought another one, this time the one with the black polymer stock, I LOVE IT!!! My girlfriend (she has incredible eyesight, I have 20/20 but she is like the bionic woman) was hitting a 6 inch "Shoot-n-See" target with IRON sights- OUT THE BOX- at 100 YARDS!!!!

My cousin taught me how to shoot, and squirrel hunt in southern Maryland on one of these awesome rifles. Since then I have put A LOT of led down range on a variety of both military and privately owned firearms. The Ruger 10.22 is definitely a favorite. They just became available again where I live in Washington state so like a giddy school boy, I ran to the sports store and I got one! I am looking forward to teaching my son and daughter how to shoot in the next year.

Nice Vid. Brought back a few memories.
My first Ruger 10/22 was bought by my Dad in 1964 for my 9th Birthday. It was a tack driver using cheap remington bulk box golden bullets. It was completely stock with open sights. I sold it in 1979 (With much regret) when I joined the Air Force. I now own 8 Ruger 10/22's in different configurations.

those are some very nice rifles. i personally, for a .22, use a Stevens Model 300 gray synthetic, very reliable gun, and love to shoot it. your family looks like a great family to go and shoot with for an afternoon. im only 13 myself, and i intend to grow much older with my Stevens .22, its great to see people such as yourself showing your children and keeping the hunting/shooting traditions alive.
good luck in hunting and anything else in your future.

my dad bought me my ruger 10/22 when I was seven. I love it. I'll never get rid of it. I don't know how many tens of thousands of rounds I've run through it. Wonderful gun. Glad to see nutnfancy's review of it. Every friend (among a small percentage of liberal gun owners) I get out to the range loves this gun, and I always encourage them to get their own. Great gun, great review.

My previous comments are in response to comments made by others. My own statement is this: Thanks, NTP for all the great vids. I have 2 10/22's and find them to be loads of fun to shoot! I've customized on for fun and get tons of looks of envy every time I pull it out. My other is an older International model with the Mannlicher stock--beautiful! Anyone who wants a fun gun or varmint killer needs to at least consider this fine weapon. It will give years of pleasure.

I always had reliabilty with 10/22s. Admittedly they don't do well with Remington ammo but they eat CCI like candy. That's just my experience. BTW, I got my son a 10/22.
Nut-n-Fancy, I'm glad you mentioned the Deer slayer! I have one of those too. There's no chasing a wounded deer down with that one. Flat shooting easy in the first 50yds, open sights, accurate. They drop where you pop em.

I have a 10/22 identical to yours (the wood one). My dad bought for me for Christmas and was my first real gun. I still have it. Mine was bough in the 80's maybe early 90's and yes it was $100. They sell for $200 now. The only thing I have done happened just last year and it was the addition to the trigger style mag drop like that camo 10/22 has. Except mine is curved in the same manner that the trigger is. These are awesome guns with lots of mods and they are easy to work on.

Nice vid! I still have mine that I bought new in 1972. Stock except for a Bushnell scope. It still has no trouble producing 3inch groups at 50 yards. I've never had to do anything to it but clean it. I'm taking my 13 year old niece target shooting for her very first time this next weekend, she's just as excited as she can be, and the old 10/22 is coming along, of course.

Very cool video, well made and well thought through. I too have been shooting a 1022 since 1976. Saved my lawn mowing money and collected beer cans. I must have called J.C. Penny's a thousand times checking on the sale through the summer. GOD bless the old man who ran the gun dept. who very patiently told me yes, its still $62 and change tax inc.every week some times 3 times a week. One early August Saturday morning my Dad took to JCP and I bought that rifle. Just purchased a new 1 ...$262 Damn.

I have owned a ruger 10/22 for the last 8 years and I would not trade it in for any other .22 rimfire I have tried since. I also own a savage arms .22/250 bolt action, again a superb rifle for the money.

10/22 was my first rifle because of this video!

Wow you took amazing care of that rifle! It looks in mint condition.

Great vid. The reasoning behind the 10rd Butler Creek mags is the star clip configuration, where you can connect 3 of them together to create a sort of 30 round mag. You can thank the SAW ban for that.

I just held the new 10/22 Takedown yesterday and it rocks! It may not be as light as a Marlin Papoose but it is a definite improvement to the design.

Watching this series again after picking up a 10/22 yesterday for the new baby on the way. We don't have a crib, diapers, or anything else, but the kid has a 10/22 put away for when the time is right.

I just bought a black synthetic 10/22 carbine with stainless steel barrel and a 3-9x40 scope today. It seems like a real nice gun and I can't wait to shoot it. I was debating over this or the S&W M&P 15 .22LR. I gave the 10/22 my vote because of the price and the reputation.

I have a 10-22 that I bought about 7 years ago. I love the gun, but I have had a lot of trouble with the clips sticking. Only on the newer clips, however. My dad had a 10-22 with the original clip that he has had since the 70's, and his still works like a champ. I can use his clip in my gun, and it works fine.
