The major problem of Kevin is that he is just one, cuz’ the world needs at least a thousand more Kevins.

Great vid Kevin. If I didn't know better I'd swear those were the marks in my ttanny case. Suggestion to others if you have a vacuum available, keep the vacuum next to the die grinder while cleaning away the metal. It assists with eliminating the contamination

For a .001 to .0015 range would not a micrometer be a better tool for measuring. Old machinist here but in the shop we used calipers for less critical measurements.

What happens when you put a 7 speed transmission into a bike that has a gear indicator? When going form 6 to 7, what will show up on the dash?

What is the advantage of the Baker DD7 over the HD 6 speed? The final gear ratios are the same. Don't see it being better for racing. Is it for heavier towing because the lower gears have a higher ratio?

Guys like this remind me why sometimes it’s just worth paying for the work to get done.
Yes sometimes it may be like .. WTF how is the rate so high .. well.. you’re paying not for the time as much as you’re paying for the DECADES of experience guys like this have. And the expensive tools they have etc etc

Thanks for the clarification. Completely forgot about using the flat surface method.

6:36 ha I was going to say, I've used 600 wet/dry paper to knock off a thou or so before. Then polish it up up with wetted 1500.

On the sanding method a couple of tips - copier glass is very flat and it is better to use a round and round and/or keep rotating the part to ensure it is flat.

And be sure to use a figure eight pattern when filing the spacer to ensure a smoother surface.

Whenever I manually "surface" an item, I don't go back and forth, I do figure 8's. Just the way I was taught.

It's amazing how people bother you instead of actually using instructions or calling the manufacturers.

Hi Kevin, I watch your videos but this is my first time commenting.
I have a 2015 road glide CVO with 91k miles on it. I did a big bore kit @ 52k miles and it came off the Dyno at 118/124. My problem is that 5th gear started slipping last week and everything I read pointed to the clutch pack so yesterday I swapped it out to a Barnett extra disc kevlar pack and put 36 ounces of Redline primary fluid in it. 5th gear is still slipping but every other gear pulls great. The bike has a hydraulic clutch.
I’m reaching out to you about this because I can’t seem to find a cure for this and I’m in hopes that you’ve run into this issue given your experience with these bikes.
I hope you find my question and have a suggestion for me since I can’t seem to find a solution anywhere else.
    Thanks Kevin

    Kevin,
Do you have a rule of thumb for lubricants. It does take up space. Do you bump things mabe a half of thousands or even one!

I know it is not directly related to this video but in a way it is. Why 7 speeds? I own a '23 FXLRS. 6 ratios available. The top one is usable after about 55 MPH.
Do I need more? Hmmmm? Same is true with engine power. I installed S&S 475C cam on otherwise stock engine 2->1exhuast 117. Fuel map corrected, of course. I love it for the loping idle(awesome sound)even though it is a bit less manageable below 10MPH due to the lope. The power is far more than I could ever use. Wheelies available in any gear below 5th. It really makes me wonder why people feel the need to "up-stage" from that point. It is power one cannot realistically use and makes the machine a bit hard to ride. Why oh why oh why do people feel the need to re-cylinder and perhaps re-head a machine that puts out more power than is useful? I think too many folk are willing to spend too much $$$ on things they'll never use and do not understand. Just getting a silly graph with high peak really doesn't mean anything other than an ego boost. I'd enjoy a video on that subject.
    Thanks.

Could you use a little bit of paint, that has been allowed to dry, to indicate clearance issues? That is you don’t have a powder coated transmission housing.

On uncoated cases if there is interference it should leave a shiny spot where it scratches the aluminum

Gotta have a proper flywheel setup for gear drive
Even if u get a good crank from the factory..

I have all the tools but if someone doesn’t have a grinder or tools then maybe they shouldn’t be doing the work in the first place. I have tools that I have only used once and that’s just the way it is, if you want to work on your stuff you have to buy the tools.

You buy a Harley then you have to replace all the OEM with aftermarket costing thousands more..

Considering that Harley is competing with import companies that have aerospace divisions, are in Formula 1 racing etc. I think Harley is doing well against these companies with seemingly unlimited resources. Aside from changing the traditional design of Harley bikes to match the specifications of their competitors I don’t see a significant improvement in sales of Harley’s . I think this would be a totally unacceptable proposition, for Harley and its customers, so it’s an impasse… I guess?

Calipers???? As a machinist, I would never take a measurement with this with anything other than a quality micrometer. Take thumb pressure out of the equation for an accurate measurement.
