    Scofield's solo is just hugging that harmony. He weaves in and out of his chord tone beats.

    As an unfortunate person who's sometimes urged by friends and loved ones to see a doc for special meds, i relate to this song on a deeper level than most of his(Mayers other songs)
    The main Dorian sounding riff can be heard on one or two other Scofield solos but not as a head

    The “jazz snobbery” evident in some of these comments is laughable to a point I almost feel embarrassed for the ones who posted. Here we have 2 great players who clearly have great mutual respect for each other. Scho is Scho and I love him, but JM’s sense of groove and phrasing is top notch too. There is no “lesser” guitarist on that stage, just 2 distinctly different stylists.

    Love it ! Love the outside chord changes !
    Can't believe in over 10,000 views it only got 39 likes, If you were hot chicks it would have gotten many more likes and people would be talking about what musical genius's you are. The dumbing down of America ! Annie Clark can do the worst rendition of Dig A Pony I've heard and it got MANY likes and the comments are about how creative she is.

    • @heysplangy
      @heysplangy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it gets so few likes because, well, it sucks. it's sad to see to John Scofield play boring derivative crap like this. but this is just what Mayer does: crap. Soulless, derivative crap...skillfully played.

    • @guitaroable
      @guitaroable 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a good friend who unlike you is a REAL musician . I'm sure you've never heard him because he doesn't play brainless indie pop but my friend Al has played trumpet with Duke Elington , Glen Miller , Little Anthony , and was playing 1st trumpet in the Harlem Club in Atlantic City when he was just 29 years old . He can read any music you put in front of him on trumpet or piano and improvise a great solo on complex non diatonic chord progressions . That said , I gave him a copy of this C.D. and he LOVES it ! And you do what musically and don't and think Ray Charles music is " soulless " !
      Why the f should anyone care what a 20 something hipster thinks other than another 20 something hipster ?
      Anyone with musical taste and knowledge wouldn't even Put Annie Clark's rendition of Dig A Pony in the same class as this because it was soulless , derivative crap and NOT skillfully played like all he brainless , indie pop crap . Unfortunately if these guys would have done a half as version of this and were a hot female like Annie Clark they WOULD have gotten many , many more likes you f'n moron ! PISS OFF !

    • @heysplangy
      @heysplangy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      larry scheller oh man...you had to edit and still that's all you came up with? like your 'musical knowledge', you're just stringing together a bunch of irrelevant fap. your ability to put forth an 'argument' is impotent (fitting).
      Your "friend" "loves" this... and...so his taste is as lacking as yours. Thanks for clarifying. Are you trying to boost your credibility by including some irrelevant bullshit?(pssst...It's not working)
      "I'm sure you've never heard him...blah blah..." you are so much less annoying if I read your narcissistic trifle back in the voice of 'Comic Book Guy'...it all makes sense that way...
      I too could do some 'name dropping', but seeing how poorly it looks on you, I'll decide against it...maybe I'm not a REAL musician...maybe I am...you'll never know. I certainly know and have known a few(or maybe I haven't)...NONE of them...NONE have EVER acted as poorly as YOU...certainly no REAL musician would act like such a bitch... except this guy I knew who went off his meds (RIP). Have YOU gone off your meds, "Larry"?
      Nice straw man: no one called Ray Charles 'soulless'. (If you are going to employ that 'logic', any argument you were trying make against AC's Dig a Pony is now MOOT...don't you get that?) Ray was the man. John Scofield is one of my faves. That's why it's sad to see him here (in fact, I'm listening to Joe Henderson's 'so near, so far' album as I eviscerate you). John Mayer is, however, soulless. He sucks the soul out of anything he touches: a black hole of soul. Sure, he can play guitar very very well...but gack...it has no substance...no soul...what a waste.
      Indie pop...hipsters...ugh...now you are dating yourself and showing just how removed and desperate you are as you flail to make your non-point.
      "Anyone with musical taste and knowledge wouldn't even Put Annie Clark's rendition of Dig A Pony in the same class as this because it was soulless , derivative crap..." on this we agree: this is indeed soulless, derivative crap.
      Judging by your list of 'liked' videos...I can see that originality is not really something that you are drawn to... cover versions...near note-for-note renditions of popular tunes...that's your bag. Pretty boring stuff for the most part...safe. That happens to some folks when they get old....or is that what makes one old? Safety and conformity...boring!
      Seriously "larry", whatever unrelentingly obsessive narrow opinions you may have regarding Annie's rendition...you still can't stop her. you can't take her talent away. and George Harrison still thinks you're a dick. Find a new windmill, Don Quixote...

      Can't stand to hear a non musician English major being so opinionated about music ! Does Annie Clark hire out of work people with English degrees to write crap like this for her ?
      Once again , who cares about a 20 something , non musician that couldn't pass theory 1 uneducated opinion on music except another 20 something that couldn't pass theory 1 and thinks their amazing ?
      One thing we do agree on is this was " skillfully played " and that's more than anyone that understands music and the guitar can say about Clark ! One more time , who the f are you and what makes your subjective , uneducated opinion about music worth anything ? I understand music better than you , my friend does and most people I know do and an educated opinion should and would be worth more than an uneducated one in an objective atmosphere without people like you , indie pop hipsters , who think their amazing .
      Did indie pop hipster make me sound dated ? Your egocentrism is as huge as your musical ignorance ! Do away with your creative writing class and practice your guitar !
      I really doubt George would think I'm a dick ! He took his music very seriously and didn't just play around with guitar like some people . George didn't like music just because it was weird and different it had to be great ! He got into the Beatles because he could play Raunchy note for note . Musicians learn much from doing that it's called " paying ones dues " and that's why his solos were little works of art and not a simple 4 or 5 note riff like Clark's . A simple riff does not = a solo ! ...............Learn something about music or PISS OFF

    • @heysplangy
      @heysplangy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      larry scheller hahaha... it's very entertaining watching you sink further into your hysterical fantasy world. haha Sure, I'll be a non-educated, non-musician, indie rock hipster English major if that's what you need to believe to keep your fantasy going...hahaha You just keep making more and more claims about your 'education' and skill that you just can't back up. Instead, you choose to project your own shallow ego on those who would call you out as the phony you obviously are. Are you so bitter because because you've never amounted to a damn thing or because of your loss of virility? both?
      hahaha. Just because simple grammar and sentence structure elude YOU, does not make me an English major. oh! that's supposed to be and insult haha from some phony who read a couple of blogs on music theory on the internet and in now attempting to pass himself off as 'educated' and having 'paid his dues' hahaha. oh right...you're a REAL musician and all that 'grammer' stuff is beneath you. haha jeez...it means sooo much coming from someone who aspires to such mediocrity as yourself...fuck! you are pathetic. I feel bad a deriving so much pleasure from your self-immolation. I'm conflicted.
      "Did indie pop hipster make me sound dated ?"
      well, yes, if you think that is applicable or insulting to me.
      "Your egocentrism is as huge as your musical ignorance ! "
      haha. it's not about me. it's about what a lying coward YOU are. any attempts to make it about me just strengthen that point.
      You are the one making claims about your 'education', 'skill' and 'dues paid', you are basing all of your sophomoric opinions upon those assertions... until you can back up ONE SINGLE assertion you will just be a liar. ...but you just keep piling up the lies...pathologically! ugh. so, until such time that you can own up with some FACTS, you have no place to ask who I am and why my opinion matters. At such time I would gladly demonstrate all of your assertions about myself laughable... I won't hold my breath...It's hard to laugh at you that way.
      "One thing we do agree on is this was " skillfully played " and that's more than anyone that understands music and the guitar can say about Clark !"
      ugh...sad. your entire raison d'être is focused on a 20 minute cab ride that happened in London about a decade ago. I feel so bad for you...and you make up all this nonsense about what a musician you are... Your REALITY must be just horrifying to go to such lengths to bolster your fantasy.
      "I really doubt George would think I'm a dick !" really? but you ARE a dick. how are you NOT being a dick? also, George hated liars. Everyone hates liars like you.
