- Something about this Undertale theme slowed way down makes me remember the music I used to listen to when I was a kid. Toby Fox really is a great composer, the Undertale soundtrack has so many gems... now time for a story ~
In high school I used to volunteer at a local venue called "The Back Door" and every weekend we'd have shows of local bands and musicians. The shows were a lot of young punk bands, the venue was an old church that cleared all the pews out and had a stage. That stage felt so big to a young kid.
I used to run the door, taking donations and stamping hands. Later, I started the venue's "merch" table, which was basically just a candy stand. One of the adults would take us to Cosco and we'd buy bulk snacks to sell at the shows. It was fun raising money to put these little shows together, all of us middle and high school kids.
Something about this song and this speed, reminded me... not of the shows themselves, but the moments before and hours after. Someone always had a guitar, or some instrument, strumming a few notes and figuring out who they were and what they wanted to sing.
The legend is... lead singer Claudio from Coheed & Cambria started The Back Door. I remember seeing that band when they were first called Shabutie. They rocked like no one else.
One time after the show, I was singing one of their songs in my squeeky high school falsetto. I basking in the rock I had just witnessed, picking up litter and singing my heart out. I walked into the green room and there on the couch sat Claudio. I was mortified. But he just got a big smile on his face and said "nice man." What a cool guy.
It's kind of funny, now having toured for ten years, thinking about where it all started for me. I've played shows to crowds big and small, all over the country. But those simple, awkward moments from The Back Door are just as clear in my mind as my latest festival gig or livestream.
Somehow, those old times seem more vivid than yesterday. Funny how life works out, huh?

I think almost anyone can agree that the UNDERTALE's OST is one of the best OSTs in video game history.
Its one of my favorites along Crash The Wrath of Cortex and DKC2.

man when this game came out i was in what, eighth grade? now i’m about to go off to college, graduating high school in a few months... how time flies.
edit (10/13/20): i'm pretty far into my first semester of college now, never ended up graduating in person because of the pandemic and am still stuck learning from home. it's been a rough year, but at least it's almost over. i can't reply to all of you individually but it's so neat how this game can bring so many people from different age groups and backgrounds together. thank you so much for the well wishes! i hope you're all doing well in spite of all that's going on in the world and please remember, stay determined!

Yeah, I know. When I heard his theme for the first time, I didn't even play undertale and didn't know that's where it was, but I immediately felt a sort of way and kept searching to find it, because it was that amazing.

I remember when the Undertale community was really toxic. It made so much awfull stuff that I left it entirely, but I refused to let go of the game.
I'm glad I did. Because when all of the toxic people left only the real fans remain. And when everything became quiet I also returned.
Nobody in the comments is arguing; no one is rude; everyone just wants to express how gratefull they are for Undertale's existance.

It doesn’t even feel like it’s been out as long as it has. I feel like it came out just last week and yet has always been around. How is such a game that makes me feel such familiarity possible?

Some people like to hate and say it's not that great, but I say who needs 'em. I'm glad to live in a time when Undertale came out and got so much acclaim for its genuine heart and the talent behind it.
Undertale is so strange-feeling to me because it feels like it was MEANT to exist. Know what I mean? It feels like it has changed the world and popular culture and the lives of so many people in such a big way...it feels like something the universe had always had in it but waited until 2015 to give us. Like it came into our world at exactly the right time to make an impact on those who needed something like Undertale the most. Thanks Toby Fox. :)

In the past few months, I have been growing farther away from Undertale and my other favorite games, focusing more on my future. I noticed how my writing here emotionally touched some people in ways I never thought I could reach. Since then, I have been slowly walking through the labyrinth of my 8th grade year, to eventually discover that my hands have much more potential. As I turned in essays to my English teacher, reports to my History class, and speeches in Science, I have been recognized by the majority of my school's staff as well as a few parents, bus drivers, my school district's office members, and even a few journalists in my town who were impressed by me. APPARENTLY, with my ugly, scarred, twitchy, scratched, wart filled hands, I can do things like this that I had no idea about. And I am confident that I found out about all of this because of this comment, the people who replied to it saying they cried to this, or how they couldn't stop smiling, or how I didn't include a Mettaton quote, or how nostalgia of this song combined with my comment hurt them (whatever the freak that means), and because of Undertale. It's crazy how one of my very favorite video games helped me realize my talent of writing that could potentially alter the course of my life. You all helped with this as well, including DJ CUTMAN, and I appreciate this.

Undertale for me is not just a game that can be played offline. She left too big an imprint in life, for me it became a home. The house is cozy, so beautiful. A house that you don't want to leave. No game can replace Undertale yet. Thank you Toby Fox for childhood, for that unforgettable adventure.

When I heard this song, I remember the day that my daughter was born. I just see myself sitting in a hospital room, multicolored lights emitting from hidden LED lights and the mixture of excitement and fear for my daughter. I was excited to be her father, her dad... but I always wondered if I was ever going to be enough for her, and thankfully to this day, she can say that she loves me... Whenever I hear this song I think of her and I cry. All of the time that we've spent together, the times we went to parks, or when we'd go out to eat, it all stuck out to me in the most painful way, but one can only push forward as best as they can and accept this new reality that they have placed for themselves. I just hope she's doing okay wherever she is.

I've had the exact same wish so many times.
I have severe anxiety disorder. Undertale was the first thing that made me forget that and just live the moment. For the first time in my life I felt I was alive and felt like I matter. For the first time I truly smiled without feeling uneasy. When I showed it to my school friends, they laughed me off, while my fandom friends have always been there. I always wonder if the same fate that happened to Chara met me if I didn't find this game.
This experience made me wanna stay determined. Determined to the day, when being me without all this anxiousness will become my reality.

I don't want to let go.
I was never much of a video game fan until I saw Jacksepticeye play Undertale. I begged my dad to buy the game for me and I played it on my own. I cried. This game made me realize how powerful video games can be and how my love for great storytelling can carry into medias I had never gave a chance.
I remember how I drew Sans and Papyrus on all of my homework and wrote skeleton puns on my hands in class. I made butterscotch cinnamon pie even though I absolutely suck at baking and even though I made it wrong, it didn't stay together, and the crust was kinda burnt, it made me so incredibly happy. I hummed the soundtrack to myself daily and even dressed as Sans for a comic con. I would see yellow dandelions and the thought would cross my mind, "What if it just started talking?"
Undertale inspired me in so many ways and changed my way of seeing the world. I rarely think of Undertale these days, but I think it made me a lot more forgiving than I used to be. I definitely still make up skeleton puns around Halloween and remember first seeing Sans. I have a much greater appreciation for spaghetti, crosswords, and the crinkling of autumn leaves.
The music though. One bar of Undertale or Memory and I get chills. Every detail of the story and my old obsession comes back. I remember how much Undertale did for me. It brought me so much joy and made me appreciate the small things in life, a secret hope that doing so would give me the strength to stay determined and face the day. I have to play it again. I'm going to play it again.

Ah I have a similar story! I found Undertale through Jacksepticeye, I usually watched his playthroughs because I was too young to buy games for myself but still wanted to experience them. Undertale was different. I stopped watching his playthrough after the first episode (he made it out of the ruins and to the first checkpoint in snowdin) and I knew this game was the kind of gold I just had to play for myself. And so Undertale became the first game I ever purchased, my parents helped me download and navigate Steam just so I could install Undertale. It started a long line of indie game explorations for me, and an undying love for Toby Fox games. It helped me through tough times, and I think even made me a better person. Thanks Toby

This game and the story don't have to pass if you don't let it. Hold onto it -- cherish what was made and live in the moment of your choosing. Don't let anyone tell you it has to end.
After all, the whole point of the game was getting to live the life you wanted. It would defeat the point if you want to hold on to this and you let it go...
So please... Stay Determined, Frisk. From one of us to another, in this real world we live in. Hold hands with each other. Stay close and stay together. Keep making new things, keep holding on to the old.
Stay with the friends you made, the journey you took and the story that meant so much.

i remember one rainy day when i was 13 years old i was just sitting on a stairs in front of the school watching the raindrops and listening to a sounds of rain i was afraid, i still don't know why maby becouse i was all alone no one liked me and nothing really mattered to me , i was thinking that i won't find a frieds then sudennly someone pat me in my shoulder i turned back and saw a girl from my class no one liked her either just becouse she was a little fater than the other girls, she was smiling to me and asked if she could sit next to me then i realized that i already got a friend it was one of the best days of my life, now im 20 years old i got a girlfriend that i want to live with and a small group of friends consisting of 5 peoples but not those fake friends but true friends sorry for my english and thanks for reading this ;D love ya guys

your HOPE is restored
Undertale has been such an incredibly large part of my life, and has taught me many important lessons like staying determined to meet your end goal no matter what. It's brought me plenty of laughs, tears, and happiness, the wonderful characters all impacting me in certain ways, how they're all so different yet each holds a special place in my heart. I remember at the end of my first pacifist run, I burst into tears because I thought my journey was 'finally over'. How wrong I was, I finally brought myself to reset and did a pacifist run again, over and over, until I started getting bored, and I decided to try genocide, which stemmed into constant cycles of me doing it, and me enjoying it more than the heartwarming pacifist run, although I would do pacifist runs in between. I let go of the game for a year or two, after being completely obsessed with it for a whole year, in total having more than 300 hours on the game. I've come back to it in recent months, and decided to try and undo my sin on the monsters world, completing a pacifist run, but then continued my cycle. I finished another genocide run today (me giving an example to my friend on how to do true genocide, and deciding to follow through) but after hearing this, I want to finish pacifist twice more (so I can get the lil' demon out of my game - like how in the end scene of pacifist where Toriel comes into your room on the surface and brings you pie, but if you do this after genocide Chara winks at you.) Then, I will finally leave this game alone, allowing them to truly get the happy ending they deserve. I want the best for the characters that have had such an impact on my life, and would like to thank Toby Fox for this incredible game. I love you Undertale, forever and always. :)

Yeah, when Libby showed me how to do the genocide I found it so much fun, yet it taught me something. It's your choice whether or not you want to do the good or bad thing. Just because you 'can' doesn't mean you 'have to'. When you do go genocide, you learn that because of your bad decisions, you're feared. Not only that, but more obstacles come into view such as Undyne the Undying and the sans fight. Meanwhile when you go pacifist, everything seems easier and boring. You make more friends and get treated more like an equal (I had a hard time pressing q). However, more smaller difficulties, such as extended fights like the Mettaton fight, occur. It generally lasts longer, and when the time comes you don't want to leave your group of friends. It's almost like when you go pacifist your journey is longer and somewhat memorable, and it's harder to complete multiple times without getting bored like you mentioned. Genocide really makes you feel like you're disconnected from everybody, that if you're going to be in this world you're better off without anyone. It's more interesting (stupid hotlands, make me kill 40 monsters-) and depressing, if not creepy. You affect areas and people, the message "But nobody came" meaning that you've cut off and shut down any possible interaction with the monsters. Yesterday, with the help of Libby, I was able to defeat the OP Undyne after taking so long to figure out how to finish her. I kept getting so close, though that only fueled my determination even more, and now i'm suffering at the sans fight, though i'm so excited to finish the fight. So, after all that being said, thank you, Toby Fox, for showing us actions comes with consequences. Though I believe they're multiple hidden messages throughout your journey, i'm really only stating the obvious.

Undertale really is a one of a kind type of game. For a brief moment, this game changed everything.
God I miss it.
I feel you. It was the one thing that brought hope to my heart that desired deeper games.
Games that are actual art in themselves and bring a new perspective, entirely.
Games that touch you more than any game has ever managed to.
At first, I didn't like Undertale. I thought it to be "just another RPG" but boy was I wrong. I quickly got into it after my first playthrough, watching let's plays, animations, and music videos all over the place and it consumed me for a while.
Nowadays Undertale is something I try to get out of my daily system to not mention or reference it every few minutes however I fail at that very often and just let my appreciation for the game seep out.
I made friends thanks to this game and got this game a few more friends. I truly marvel at how much this game has impacted my life and my view of gaming and games.
Undertale isn't gone, it's with you as long as you want to so you don't have to miss it.

I only discovered undertale last year, but this somehow still feels nostalgic. I'm glad I went into the game blind because I don't think the experiance would have been so amazing otherwise. I didn't watch any playthroughs first, I didn't research any of the lore, I didn't look into the game. I just knew some people who said it was good and decided to play it. I never could have imagined the huge fandom behind it or the amount of emotional connection I would feel towards it. I never thought I would cry because of killing a pixelated skeleton and a goat lady. Undertale is a truly unique game.

I made a promise at the end of my last pacifist playthrough to never ever play Undertale again, not because I didn't like it, but instead to listen to Flowey, I wanted to let everyone live in peace, let people go, because, well, Flowey said outright that after the game *I* was no longer needed/wanted, so, in return, I was no longer there, I love Undertale, but I will keep my promise, even *almost a year later* so, I will listen to this, and maybe watch a playthrough.

Yet, this year is my first time actually playing the game. I finally bought it. It's even better than the playthroughs. This game is really something special, and I'm so glad I got into it.

i can’t believe undertale is going to be 5. i remember stumbling upon it as a 11 year old and not thinking much of it until my cousin told me about more of the characters, and instantly, i was hooked. i have so many amazing memories from being submerged in the undertale fandom for the 2 years that i was. I made my own cosplay (and revamped it a year later!) and i was proud of my own creations for once. i remember walking into school in 7th grade with my revamped MTT cosplay and feeing so free. so happy. so confident. i remember making so much fanart of undertale, my pink walls were covered in more pink (seriously the amount of mettaton fanart i made was so crazy-) the whole aspect of having a comfort character never hit me really until i got into undertale. i had at least 5 characters that, if i was feeling down, i could look up on tumblr and i’d cheer up. i made so many friends in the fandom, and i have so many amazing memories. thank you undertale. ❤️

Undertale had a profound effect on me as a person; it changed how I viewed morality, video games, and entertainment as a medium. I could not name a game that has a had a bigger impact on me as a person than this game. I really hope deltarune can aspire to the same level, I want to feel the same feelings I felt during undertale again, mainly because I've never felt that way before.

Undertale. I'm not the one to cry but damn does this song place a dent in my heart and make me want to lay down and remember. I saw this game on TH-cam by Jacksepticeye. I need to thank him. I was in the 3th/4th grade at the time. After the full playthrough I felt complete. I even made a friend. One time in recess I scraped my knee a bit and decided sit down on the fence. Then she came up to me. A girl named Madison. She was not popular nor did I know her. She helped me and then we both sat down looking at the other kids play. I plucked up the courage to ask her if she knew Undertale and her eyes shined. She said "Yes! Do you?" That's when the friendship started. We keep talking about through out the years. Then came 5th grade. We had to say our goodbyes. I felt like crying that day and we went our own ways. This song right here is the song I listened to at the time. TOBY FOX I WON'T BE WHO I AM TODAY WITHOUT THIS GAME! MADISON, WHERE EVER YOU ARE, I WON'T BE WHO I AM WITHOUT YOU! Just thank you. Discovered this game in second grade.... now I'm going into middle school. When I look back, so much has happened. Undertale changed my life man.
This is going to sound really cliche but here i got anyways. When I was 14 or 15, i moved down from Alaska to Utah to see my grandma for her final moments in life since she had gotten cancer and didn't want any treatments. So, mostly everyday after school. I'll head to her house and hang out with my family until one day. I felt something was off and so, I went to her house and she was bed ridden at this point. so I went to her and held her hand gently and smiled, until it went cold and lifeless. I cried thinking i caused it and knowing i was the last person she felt, one of her grand kids, giving his last amount of love. In her final moments. and the moments from 3:20 through 4:05 really remind of those moments and days. I love you grandma and I hope your having a good time while we're still catching up :')

Undertale music never fails to make me irrationally emotional. I remember around when undertale first came out, it got me through such an incredibly difficult time in my life. Shortly after deltarune was released, I was also going through a bit of a rough patch. I’d been listening to the deltarune soundtrack to try and cheer myself up, when the song ‘You Can Always Come Home’ (mostly the same as ‘Home’ from UT) came up. Just hearing the song and reading the title made me cry like baby. It really did feel like coming home.

I read through all these comments and I wonder: "how did it take me so long to find out about Undertale, this might have had a much bigger impact on my life if I had discovered it earlier"
I only discovered Undertale in April of last year through a friend showing me the music, and it took me a while to actually get into the game. Once I did, I fell in love with not just the music, but the characters and story too. I'm not that emotional of a person irl, but I will admit that I cried twice during the game: when the monsters told the story of Asriel and how they hoped to be free, and the comforting scene at the end of Pacifist (and this was watching a playthrough because I couldn't play the game).
I'm a senior in high school, and what I've told a lot of my friends is that this game gave me a sense of identity; I didn't know where I fit in until I discovered this game and not only became closer with the friends I had but I also made new ones, which for me is huge. I wish that I had discovered this game back 4 or 5 years prior when it was more popular and not just known for its memes, because maybe I would have formed the identity I made now earlier, and maybe I might not have dealt with depression for as long as I have.
On the other hand, maybe it's better that I didn't, because going through all of that made me stronger, and if I hadn't of gone through those experiences I probably wouldn't be the same person I am today, nor would I have been able to relate to and help some of my friends who have also dealt with depression and anxiety as I have.
Eventually my friend who owns a Switch got the game so that I could play it because he knew just how much I wanted to, and I was able to live out the experience and show it to my friends as well, and I almost cried again at the comforting scene even though I already knew exactly what was happening lol.
This game is something that already has and will continue to have a lasting impact on my life, and I am grateful to Toby for bringing this into existence for the world to experience, I can hope that this game continues to do the same thing for others that it did for me, and that Deltarune (whenever it fully releases) can remind all of us of the feelings we felt with Undertale.

Hi! I don't know if you'll read this but we're the same age! I discovered Undertale in 2018, 3 years after it was released. The hype was pretty much over but I watched pretty much every video out there about it because I ended up loving it so much. I even wrote about it for my senior thesis a couple of weeks ago. I actually think that it's better that you discovered Undertale when it was less popular so you could take your own lessons from it and experience it in the way that you needed to. I'm not very eloquent but when I saw your comment I felt this overwhelming desire to let you know that I feel you and I also hope that we can get the same feelings from Deltarune

I remember going through an undertale phase during 2016 when it was popular. Like all things, the hype died down and it stopped being popular... I recently got back into the musics and things about it and have now only just realised how much I miss this game and 2016. And to think how much I loved this game meanwhile never even playing it myself, it is amazing. I am now considering buying the game for nintendo switch, I loved Earthbound so I hope I will enjoy this game as much as I did back in 2016. :)

I remember playing undertale for the first time in 2018, at first I thought it was just a normal RPG game, but somehow the story just touched my soul, I've never experienced such an amazing story before.
I wish I could experience the same feeling I got when I Played Undertale.
Seeing everyone commenting what they were going through when they first played Undertale is inspiring me to tell a similar story. When I first played Undertale, I was going through a really rough point in my life, struggling heavily with an unsustainable school-life balance and getting around three hours of sleep per-night. On top of that, I was beginning to develop pretty severe depression and had completely lost touch with my emotions. During winter break, I initially started the game just to escape the world a little, but that wasn't the end of it. Undertale reconnected me with the kid I was before high school and was one of the many influences that drove me to switch majors from engineering to history. Now, 5 years later, I graduated college this past May with a history degree, have a 350 page research manuscript in its final stages, and plan to go back to school after the pandemic to earn my PhD. I didn't really realize it at the time, but Undertale was essentially the smack upside the head I needed to turn around my life. After hearing the 5th anniversary concert earlier this month, I planned to revisit the game for the first time in January 2021, 5 years after I initially played it. It's going to be a rough trip, but I'm excited to see how I'd look at the game now, as a better person.

It took me so long to finally let go and move on from this game. I think that that's the lesson it taught me, though- to find out how to move on. Yes, it showed me how to become a much more well-rounded and accepting person, but I think being able to pull myself from the Undertale fandom when it slowly began to die was one of the most influential things I've ever done. I wouldn't say that I've left the fandom, but rather that I've just continued heading forward. Looking up to the sky instead of down to the Earth, you know?
I met most of my friends that I care about because of Undertale. Of course, I've lost contact with a bunch over this period of five years. The ones I have kept have been some of the best I could ever hope for, and not a single day goes by where I don't miss those who I've left behind. I don't think I'd be the person I am today without them or, by extension, this game.
I went ahead and joined a sport.
I was inspired to further pursue my interests.
I got through one of the hardest parts of my life.
I loved- and lost.
But most importantly, I began to piece together this puzzle that is me.
And here, at 8:42 PM on this Friday of Fridays, I was not expecting to make a confession- especially after wrestling practice. Yet, here we are.
I just wanted to say thanks.
To what remains this fandom. To Toby Fox. To you, Dj CUTMAN, for reminding me of times long past.
