Always loved this song and Peter Hammill is one of the most charismatic singers ever!

VdGG was my favourite band of the 70s, particularly their earlier stuff, The Least We can Do Is Wave to Each Other, H to He who am the only One and Pawn Hearts.

Check out 1971 "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" or 1970 "Refugees" by Van Der Graaf Generator. VDGG was a huge deal in early and mid 70's. Truly original and highly regarded by the critics. Top "prog rock" bands: 1st Genesis lineup (with Peter Gabriel on vocals and Phill Colins on drums and backing vocals),Van der Graff Generator (formed in UK 1967), Emerson Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, etc...

It was a film of a live act ( Paris maybe ) with the original studio version overdubbed.

I think the note "Briitish people..." clears everything. Most of the really interesting things in rock music appeared in the UK. 80% of top rock groups were outside of the U.S. And that's why some Americans just don't get it. VDGG is pure avantgarde of the prog rock and this track is from era inspired by punk rock. Not my favourite VDGG era, but really interesting. And this track is killer...

"What is going on here?!" is probably the reaction of every new listener to the controlled anarchy that is VDGG
