This headset isn’t for everyone. It’s $999 USD to pre-order just the headset. But for those who already own the extras and want an upgrade, I think it’s a good option. What do you think?
Like the smaller size. I wonder how much more it would cost if it had eye-tracking with foveated rendering and hand tracking like the Apple Vision Pro. Price looks high without no included hand controllers. Most consumers prefer a complete package out the box.

@@openyourmind5534 The reason for that price is because of the screens. They are microOLED screens. Perfect blacks and rich colors. You won't find many headsets with microOLED screens right now. Apple's headset has them but it's 3 times more expensive and not available soon. PlayStation VR has them but at a lower resolution and with some issues like mura. Most other VR headsets are using regular LCD/LED screens.
To anyone else out here (and yes, naysy, I got permission from the beyond devs to say this, don’t delete the comment) who was a bit disappointed by the 90 degree FOV, they’ll make an announcement in the next week or so regarding a massive FOV boost they’ve made. It now comes quite close to the index’s FOV, and quite solidly beats the Quest 2.
This my dream vr headset. Comfort is my biggest gripe with vr currently, but this seems like it almost solves that! Sad part is that valve doesnt sell hardware in my country, so I would have to use vive wands and lighthouses.
If my budget allows, I might pick it up. Having a light PCVR headset that doesn't let Zuckerberg spy on you is a nice selling point. Thanks for the preview/review!
I’d love to get one but two things are stopping me from buying. 1. No wireless capability. 2. No shareability. I’m a person who when anyone shows up, I’ll pop out my headset and show them the incredible world of vr. But with ipd and a custom facial interface, I’m literally the only person who could use the headset. Kinda defeats the purpose of showing off the headset of your the only one that can use it.
I want it! It's super expensive, and my PC for sure isn't powerful enough, but I want it! Though I'm thinking Bigscreen may have screwed themselves a bit by basically requiring a Geforce 4090 to run this thing. The PSVR2 solves this issue by using foveated rendering, which is not available here (requires eye tracking). No audio jack is also a downside. BTW, really enjoyed the video, burrying the Index was very dramatic, and can never go wrong with sexy B-roll!
I don't think you need a 4090. Even though Naysy was having problems recording with a 3080, the website states that you need at least an RTX 2070 or AMD RX 5700 XT, which to me sounds reasonable enough for VR gaming. I'm guessing it's just a matter of getting better drivers or something like that on the software side
As a quick FYI, the Beyond DOES have an extra USB-C port which can double as an audio jack. I'm guessing most of the performance issues for her were largely due to wanted to stream or record, which amps up the performance requirements. As an early tester, I've used Beyond on an RTX 3070 plenty and it's fine for most VR games.
Bigscreen Developer. I spent several years using Beyond on a 3080 Ti very happily. I think most people don't need an RTX 4090 for Beyond. That's extra nice especially if you're a content creator and you want to do mixed reality, record footage, stream footage, and play games at the highest possible resolution.
if you have another 5k to spare on new headset and new pc than yes. Currently sitting with vega 64 and 4790k and valve index everything is perfectly balanced on my setup. But i can imagine how badly everything will work if i upgrade to big screen. Not only big screen headset is expensive, but also i will have to buy brand new pc to make use of big screen.

@@BelloMonke I already have a good PC. And to be honest, if the experience with this is as good as it seems compared to what I've already experienced, I'd definitely be willing to pay $1000. I probably won't due to the lack of controllers, though. It doesn't seem like a smart strategy from their part to me and buying controllers separately makes it a lot more expensive

Yes, it sets so close to the face that the eye lashes get residue on the Lences, answer just wipe or clean your eye lashes from residue. Cause the face cushion getting thicker will set your eyes farther away from the lenses narrowing your FOV.
I'm loving the looks and sound of this company is going for Naysy. I love VR to death. I highly tempted to grab one when it launches and after reviews of course. It looks to be a great fit to for my face compared to my quest 2. lol
The title is misleading - the Beyond is not something you buy INSTEAD of an Index, it's something you buy to replace your Index HMD, which you keep (don't bury it in your back yard) as a backup HMD. The Beyond DOES NOT INCLUDE base stations or controllers, but the ones which comes with the Index are the best on the market and cheaper to get bundled with the Index headset. You could just save $300 by buying the controllers and base stations by themselves, but $300 is a good bargain to get the backup HMD. And if you're already talking about spending $1700, why not just plunk in the extra $300? I mean you're going to be spending another $500 for full-body trackers and straps, too, so just go all-in!
i have a question. Is the valve index still a good headset after having a quest 2 since 2020 and after seeing this video. Because ive been wanting a valve index for like 3 years
@Naysy The performance issues seem to come from the headset side not the PC side a 3080 should more than significant. At least I have come to this conclusion by watching a lot on this product.
My 4080 can’t handle this headset. Had to upgrade to the 4090 then sold the headset anyway because I only ever use my quest 3 and Index. The Beyond is pure 3D printed garbage.
It's great to see how everybody is talking about all those other headsets and then in the end they all are using the Index anyways. I really like that Bigscreen came up with the audio strap and a top strap as these were the things I was missing right away when I watched the first review from Tyriel. Looking forward to when this becomes GA. I guess I will have to invest some into my gaming machine though (i9 plus 3080TI right now). Maybe I can still skip 4000 series and wait for holiday season and do a big upgrade for everything. Thx for sharing your impressions so far Naysy.

After going from the OG Rift to the Quest2 I'm not sure I can go back to wired connection. Hopefully the next couple generations of headsets get the wireless fast enough for PCVR (seems close now on my set-up) or just the headsets themselves get powerful enough while still getting smaller.
I'm still quite happy with the Index i got 4 years ago. Sadly not everyone does have the money to do an upgrade like this. I certainly don't 😅. But it's something to consider in two or three years.
Eventually we will have it all though, lightweight, large fov (140+), and 144hz+ refresh rate, there are a lot of headsets coming out that have everything except the lightweight on this list. Maybe we will see it in the 4th iteration of mainstream headsets (I feel like what is coming out right now is the third wave btw).
I'm so glad I found your video! I've recently ordered a Bigscreen Beyond headset and I was worried about mascara smudge, especially as I'll be getting prescription lens inserts too. So I'm totally stoked to see there is a solution! Thank you 😊🎉 I'm doing my face scan today, so I'll send a note asking for a thicker faceplate. I was wondering though, does the thicker faceplate reduce fov at all?
The fixed IPD is a huge letdown. That means I can't share it with my wife and kids like I do the Index; we'd have to each get one, and the kids would outgrow them and have to get new ones. That's a nonstarter.
That microphone is suprisingly good. I'm listening on studio monitors, and it's not far removed from your studio mic! I didn't know they were planning for an audio strap which was my main gripe. Prescription lenses also? Nice! Oh no.. am I starting to want this headset?? hmm. AUD$1799......
$1,778.56 CAD plus duty when it crosses the border for no sound and a smaller FOV then the Quest 2. They could have at least included the headphones in that price. I'll pass. Without the Sound that Bigscreen sells its still $1,622.88 CAD plus duty still pass.
This is such a great step for VR in general. It's not for me though. I would really like it to be able to work wirelessly with a fannypack or similar. At the very least have built-in 3DOF, so I can sit in the couch or bed in a different room and watch movies. But it really gives the competition something to measure themselves against. Thumbs up.
1:25 - To be fair BigScreen could've gone the Apple route and aimed for a "Puck" for computations a la XR2 (or greater based on how late in the year it releases). Maybe they will reconsider at least for those who wanted a possibly better Quest alternative? Still weird that BigScreen isn't allowing a non-custom face gasket available as a option additionally. It would lower the barrier to entry especially with all the misinformation of needing to buy a iPhone just to get measurements for the gasket interface. At the very least technology is always moving forward! 🎉🎉
The experience is much worse without the customized cushion. It leverages your face topology to perfectly center the lenses to your eyes and keep out all the light. Any "generic cushion" would not achieve this. It'd slide around a bunch, be difficult to keep perfectly centered, and almost certainly have light leakage and uncomfortable pressure points.
'Dont spend £450 on a Valve Index, Spend £1300 instead on this instead' is a more accurate title. While its a good headset I am, not denying it, its just not worth just under 3x the price of an Index for a slightly lower FOV but a higher Res that realistically most people wont be able to benefit from. Not HW related being able to run it but say a lot of VR users play VRChat which isnt very detailed and a hot heap of poop of control c control v then they complain VRChat need to fix their performance issues. And with a lot of people going down the path of Eye tracking and Face tracking now, the Varjo Aero would be more realistic at around the same price, its just bigger (around the size of an index), has eye tracking, wider FOV around the same Res as BS's headset. Not to mention a lot of people are now adding Face Tracking and Eye Tracking to their index headsets. I know I have.
My biggest question right now is: what kind of material is the face gasket made of? It looks like rubber. Iam kinda allergic to latex and certain silikon types, i need special pads for my prescription glasses or ill get skin problems and does it absord sweat? i hate my skin, in that regard since sweat contact and rubbing gets my skin fired up fast..
Haven't got a lighthouse yet (HP reverb g2 and thinking about getting basestations etc.) and PC isn't the best anymore as well but i really really would love to get one. Hope they can keep going far with this!
Think the review problem with this headset is the feature set is so low reviewers tend to focus on the negatives. I mean it's comfy, set for you, has 5k, wired and tiny. Now the bad low fov and no standard earphones a few other nit picks . So the headset looks like, good 5 stars, bad 2 stars. So it's sort of a 3.5 which may not be fair overall.
I'm really stuck on this, I've owned the index for a few years now and would love an upgrade, from the giant headset bouncing around while I play, to the dam clunky cord. But seeing review's like 144hz to 90hz or less fov and less sweet spots, it feels like it ahead of it time and needs a secondary version. If the beyond was maybe 15% bigger to increase the fov and then it's a maybe on getting it. But I got to say seeing a headset this tiny with increase image quality must be a win for the upgrade, right?
Base stations needed , no controllers, no audio solution, expensive, need an iPhone to scan your face..... 😆 any more restrictions to entry I'm missing?! Makes this the biggest niche within a niche I've heard of. Wish them luck though
I've had my Index replaced 3 times (last time was after the warranty ran out, thank you Valve) and literally don't use it anymore because I'm afraid it will break. I've been using a G2 I got for $300 on sale instead. The Beyond sounds like a good replacement but the price is a bit high for just a headset and getting my face scanned could be a problem where I live.

Hmmmm I’m going to wait and see when it releases, see what other options will be available by then. But if no other options, I am seriously considering picking it up. It’s expensive, but not crazy for high end enthusiast VR hardware.
1369€ vs 999$ even tho the euro is 10% higher value than the dollar... even with shipping considered huuuuuuuge yikes. was curious but not for this price. 999€ maybe yes, but thats about the cieling unless there is sensors etc etc. included, which its not. edit: so basically it cost 1500$ in EU. for this price I expect the whole set (controllers, sensors, cables, straps etc. all included)

I’m very impressed. I went to the site and you can order it now and I was like it’s gonna probably be like about as expensive as the Apple pro. Nope it’s the same price as the valve index. If only I would’ve seen this video before buying that, I would’ve definitely got the big screen.
Why buy that when i can buy a quest 2 thats 3x less the price, and does exactly the same thing. I could get one for me, my brother and the homeless guy down the road and probably have money left over. Quest 2 has up to 120 instead of 90. Weight maybe but im not paying a grand for that. People have successfully tested and removed the internal battery and moved it out to reduce weight, like psvr2 style with cord. Worked just fine. Pancake lenses are not a big deal, it may feel like its a big step to some people but It's not enough reason to justify the price
sure send me 2 thousand dollars and ill buy the beyond with everything it needs to work instead of the 1 thousand dollar valve index that already comes with everything

I've just found out about this headset and really am interested in buying one. The only thing holding me back at this moment is the overall cost of ownership. The cost of the headset itself is no issue for me, having to buy the tracking devices and hand controllers is. That added cost not at all being mentioned or made obvious on the Bigscreen Beyond website is a definite no for me at this point.
Yeah it's a a lot for an upfront investment of everything. Only thing I could suggest is try find lighthouses/controllers 2nd hand but that can be risky

What VR really needs is better lenses and more FOV.
When i switch from my ultrawide to VR Quest2 it feels like half of my vision is missing.

Iam kinda allergic to latex and certain silikon types, i need special pads for my prescription glasses or ill get skin problems and does it absord sweat? i hate my skin, in that regard since sweat contact and rubbing gets my skin fired up fast..
Haven't got a lighthouse yet (HP reverb g2 and thinking about getting basestations etc.) and PC isn't the best anymore as well but i really really would love to get one.

Man I wish I had the extra spendable cash to get this thing and the set up needed to run it. Looks so sweet.
I totally recommend doing blue tooth headphones or really comfortable Bluetooth earbuds.

Think the review problem with this headset is the feature set is so low reviewers tend to focus on the negatives. I mean it's comfy, set for you, has 5k, wired and tiny. Now the bad low fov and no standard earphones a few other nit picks . So the headset looks like, good 5 stars, bad 2 stars. So it's sort of a 3.5 which may not be fair overall.
As a 3080 (10GB) owner, what did you end up upgrading to?
I'm really stuck on this, I've owned the index for a few years now and would love an upgrade, from the giant headset bouncing around while I play, to the dam clunky cord. But seeing review's like 144hz to 90hz or less fov and less sweet spots, it feels like it ahead of it time and needs a secondary version. If the beyond was maybe 15% bigger to increase the fov and then it's a maybe on getting it. But I got to say seeing a headset this tiny with increase image quality must be a win for the upgrade, right?
If@Ridge2 is right about the increased FOV this will probably be the headset I will buy. 👍
Base stations needed , no controllers, no audio solution, expensive, need an iPhone to scan your face..... 😆 any more restrictions to entry I'm missing?! Makes this the biggest niche within a niche I've heard of. Wish them luck though

I've had my Index replaced 3 times (last time was after the warranty ran out, thank you Valve) and literally don't use it anymore because I'm afraid it will break. I've been using a G2 I got for $300 on sale instead. The Beyond sounds like a good replacement but the price is a bit high for just a headset and getting my face scanned could be a problem where I live.
Is it possible to play games without a pc? Like bonelab or beatsaber???

Hmmmm I’m going to wait and see when it releases, see what other options will be available by then. But if no other options, I am seriously considering picking it up. It’s expensive, but not crazy for high end enthusiast VR hardware.

They look a lot lighter, and the weight of a normal headset is usually concentrated uncomfortably towards the front.

On the "Ancient" VR models, there was a slider for each eyes. Not anymore.

You can buy a VR headset for $36. I got one and I’m a bit confused on the low resolution my valve index can do 4K. Though it will lag in VR chat.
I’m very impressed. I went to the site and you can order it now and I was like it’s gonna probably be like about as expensive as the Apple pro. Nope it’s the same price as the valve index. If only I would’ve seen this video before buying that, I would’ve definitely got the big screen.
Why buy that when i can buy a quest 2 thats 3x less the price, and does exactly the same thing. I could get one for me, my brother and the homeless guy down the road and probably have money left over. Quest 2 has up to 120 instead of 90. Weight maybe but im not paying a grand for that. People have successfully tested and removed the internal battery and moved it out to reduce weight, like psvr2 style with cord. Worked just fine. Pancake lenses are not a big deal, it may feel like its a big step to some people but It's not enough reason to justify the price
i wish i had quest 2 accessories but i cant afford them and headstrap is so bad on quest 2...
sure send me 2 thousand dollars and ill buy the beyond with everything it needs to work instead of the 1 thousand dollar valve index that already comes with everything

Update: Fine, so I'm actually thinking about it now, since so many good headsets require the separate controllers and base stations.
I've just found out about this headset and really am interested in buying one. The only thing holding me back at this moment is the overall cost of ownership. The cost of the headset itself is no issue for me, having to buy the tracking devices and hand controllers is. That added cost not at all being mentioned or made obvious on the Bigscreen Beyond website is a definite no for me at this point.
Yeah it's a a lot for an upfront investment of everything. Only thing I could suggest is try find lighthouses/controllers 2nd hand but that can be risky
