    Absolutely brilliant and a very interesting "round the houses" route around suburban London. One of my favourite parts of the southern railway network. Thanks for sharing.

      We sometimes have to take weird and wonderful routes to make sure the machine is facing the right way for its next shift (whilst they happily run either direction at 60mph, they can only work in one direction)

      emmo999 I have been doing this for about three years. I started with Hastings Diesels Richard Goodwin, and I really enjoyed that. Then I discovered what cab ride meant. I had Google maps and Google going and would check routes and history and train classes. I have been all around Manchester with Don, out to Cleethorpes with Richard, to Lime Street, Edinburgh, and Penzance. I have been over South London with you and others. Some I have learned names, some I know by their user name. I am getting “fair” but when started I worked hard. It is a pleasure to ride with you. You can never tell me too much about the history and cities, and railways.

      @@emmo999 ooops big mistake. Talking to me only Spurs me on. I love this stuff. I have to be careful, though, because I made one star angry with me when I made what I thought was a simple request. I learned from you today that the beautiful Woking Signal Box is a brick box full of air. I identify Wilmbleton by its signal box. My favorite part of UK railways. I will be looking forward to that video. I also go back and ride them again. That’s how I got to know the DLR. Thanks so much.

    Great video! Born and raised in Wimbledon, I used the railway almost every weekend - typically either the underground to Paddington or straight up to Waterloo for the Northern Line. Funny thing is, I never got to travel the Haydons Road route. Now I know where it went! - London's southern suburban network - the original magical mystery tour lol!

      @@emmo999 And don't forget the iconic Wimbledon-West Croydon line with its straight junction at Mitcham with the Victoria-mid Sussex line to Sutton and Epsom forced to snakw in ans out on severs curves. I have memories of the Croydon end of the line in the 1950s, when steam ruled and the gas works and other industrial sites at Purley Way added their contribution to London's smogs which so troubled a bronchitic me. I saw my first 2-EPB in the West Croydon bay. One is chuntering round my BR(S) layout as I write.

    I'm impressed how SWR seem to have managed to get every single Desiro combo on the network (and the 158s as well) to include units in both the new livery and the old one, so that there isn't one that is the same colour from end to end 🤨

    • @emmo999
      @emmo999  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they are getting round them slowly. Avanti seem to have some units in new colours, some in all over white and some in old Virgin colours, so they’re all guilty of it

    • @stevieinselby
      @stevieinselby 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emmo999 Oh heck yes, Avanti trains that are plain white with the yellow ends make them look like those dodgy bus companies that just run in dealer white with a small logo decal somewhere! I just thought someone at SWR might have thought to put grey units together and blue units together rather than mixing and matching them - I guess that people who work in the railways are just less obsessive 😆

    • @emmo999

    A very rattly cab! Not the most dramatic of scenery, being mostly trees or warehouses, but still interesting. It would add interest if you could say in the text - where lines joining or leaving came from/go to, and name buildings of interest along the way, if you can. Thanks.

    • @emmo999
      @emmo999  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not every railway line goes somewhere scenic. Especially when it’s circuiting south London.
      As for rattles, these newer machines are much better than the old ones! Driving a train is not all luxury and armchairs.
      I try and add relevant captions. I’m conscious of not spamming so much text that it distracts from the point of the video - the view. It’s just trying to find a balance

    What’s the safety call for. Is it like a check up or route info?

    • @emmo999
      @emmo999  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Due to gauging restrictions, we are only allowed through one platform southbound at Tulse Hill. Just making sure we were going to be routed the correct way, as it saves having the signaller having to put the signal back to danger and waiting for the timeout if it’s wrong
