Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is an enabling provision that empowers women to take strict action against any instance of cruelty or harassment that gets meted out to them in their matrimonial homes1. It deals with the violence done on women after her marriage by her husband or her in-laws or any relative of the husband23.
