A somewhat longer piece for a change. But don't worry, you'll be asleep after just 3 minutes. That's why it's called Nocturne.
When I finished my piece “Note from an unwritten diary”, I knew that I also wanted to do an orchestral version. But when I started it, the character changed. So I changed it a bit more and it became this nocturne.
Headphones help against sound distortion.

Schön, was du aus dem unschuldigen Quart-auf-Quart-ab-Motiv mit der Dissonanz auf dem dritten Ton an motivischer Konsequenz und emotionaler Wucht so alles rausholst. Auf Ton 3 erlebt man Enge, Beklemmung, wenn dann Ton 4 und Ton 5 dazukommt, löst sich dieselbe in plötzliche, unerwartete Weite und Befreiung auf. So viel komplexe Emotionalität auf so engem Raum. Ich habe sonst nicht so sehr das Gefühl bei deiner Musik, aber dieses Stück ist sehr Mahler'esk, egal ob beabsichtigt oder nicht.

This is ravishingly beautiful and emotional music...with the most fascinating game of ambiguous tensions...it reminds me if anything of the Adagio of Bruckner 7, though quite incidentally. I love how it keeps rocking back and forth between the luminously visionary and bittersweet....if I can try to put emotions into words it feels like that strange elation one feels as all the light drains out of the sky and at each turn there is a new unique effect of the light that takes your breath away...but it all leads to night. Or else, if coming up with further metaphors is a sign of the richness of the music, it may be a sleepness night when somebody who is in love feels these waves of longing and elation in one moment whelming doubt in the next that these sudden feelings will never be returned...and the night goes on in these fits of doubt and ecstasy.. until finally, sleep.
Dear John, this comment from you means a lot to me. As you know, I use my head very little when composing and let the music flow. As far as the emotions it contains are concerned, I lack a bit of distance. Through the words you write here, as an outsider who gets involved with the music, I learn something about myself. Incredibly beautiful and comforting, this piece is perfect to help you let go of the troubles of the day and just melt into the relative peace of night. The bursts of darkness feel almost like an acknowledgement that yes the darkness is there, but also affirms that beauty can exist alongside it. And the way that the colour of the sky evolves alongside the character of your music is absolutely perfect! I really love this piece, fantastic work as usual Stefan ♥

Stefan, sleep is definitely not possible during this piece (and I have listened a few times). It is wonderfully large as I got wonderfully “lost” as if hearing it as a movie score in the darkness of the theater. Awesome!✨

An den geschätzten Komponisten Stefan. Als ich morgens aufwachte, erhielt ich eine höchst erfreuliche Benachrichtigung auf meinem Smartphone. Das ist wunderbar 👏 Ich habe keine anderen Worte, um zu beschreiben, wie wunderbar es ist. Die Weite der Erde und der Natur. Der Refrain der Geister. Ich war so bewegt. Ich werde nicht zögern, Stefans CD zu kaufen, wenn sie herauskommt. Ich will sie haben. So etwas haben Sie schon einmal gehört. Die japanische Seele" in diesem Lied hat mich einfach berührt! Von allen nicht-japanischen Komponisten ist Stefan mein Liebling und größter Fan. Ich bin glücklich, Sie getroffen zu haben. Wieder mal was Wunderschönes, wie lebendig die Streicher sind und in Traumwelten entführen. Und deine melodischen Wendungen sind immer überraschend, selbst eine offensichtliche Wiederholung bleibt keine, sondern geht im zweiten Teil in eine andere Richtung weiter. Und der plötzlich auftretende Chor setzt dem Ganzen noch die Krone auf. Dann dachte ich, es ist gleich zu Ende, weil deine meisten Stücke dieser Art 3 Minuten dauern, aber es geht weiter mit Unruhe und Beruhigung, und dem erneut erschienendem Chor, der von einer zärtlichen Sologeige begleitet wird. Wo nimmst du nur all diese wundervollen Ideen her? Ganz grossartig, ich habe das Stück sehr genossen.

I know you often suggest using headphones, but this is actually the first time I'm listening to one of your compositions actually using a headphone. Happy to report that there was very little distortion coming through the headphones. Although the headphone has smaller soundstage, the orchestra and choir sounded really full. And very interesting choice of notes and timing for the choir, I don't quite know how to explain it 😂

@@stefan.kraus-composer Yeah I guess that's one way of saying it. I think it's the contrast between long held notes and short, almost abruptly cut off notes and repeating that pattern creates very interesting dynamic. And the notes you've chosen for the choir to sing adds to this.
Also in some parts the instruments seem to mimic this too, almost has call and response effect.
