sejlefrew Watch videos of Jimmy D, Barcia, etc ripping on a 125 and come back. How about the XM2/250F class in MX/SX? They haul and a 125 has a better power to weight ratio than them.
yea, well pro's are fast on anything, that's why they're pro's, 125s 2-strokes and 250s 4-strokes raced/race in the same class at most tracks, same with 250's and 450's...This debate will never end, but 4-strokes have more useable power and that's why they dominate today. Personally I feel faster on a 125 2-stroke that a 250 4-stroke, but feel faster on a 450 4-stroke than a 250 2-stroke because the power comes on so rapid the 450 is easier to handle and has torque throughout the range.
sejlefrew Actually, the only reason 4-strokes dominate is because they are "cheating" by letting them be double the displacement of 2-strokes. As for useable power, try a mountain goat ported 250 2-stroke against a 250 4-stroke. Still, the point was, a 125 is faster than most people, especially large group of posers that think the NEED a 450 because a 125 isn't fast enough, but I bet they can't go a third this guy's speed on their 450. I'm not saying people shouldn't get 450s, or that the extra power isn't fun (I ride a 380SX 2-stroke that is way more power than anyone could ever really use except sand dunes and high speed desert), but there are tons of posers that go to tracks and think they need a 450 because they need the power, but they aren't any faster than they would be on a 125. In fact, most people are faster on a 125/250F than they are on a 250/450F.
it's not cheating lol, 2 strokes produce power twice as fast as 4 strokes, that's why you need double the displacement for equivalent power. When you look at them on a dyno 2strokes power range is not nearly as consistent as 4strokes, you get a big punch on the 2stroke when you hit the resonance frequency on the header, but 4 strokes have that power all the time, I love both bikes and agree most people are faster on a smaller lighter bike because they're less afraid. In short I agree with most of what your saying here. Lots of people move up way to quick.
Basiic Goober Zachary Silverman James Stewart was probably one of the fastest, but he is on a 450 now. Doesn't mean Ryan Surratt is faster then him. Maybe he is but it would be a close one
50 idiots disliked this video are probably people don't even know how to shift. i remember james beat 450fs on his 250 2s, i think that was in 2006 nationals.
This was the best gopro video I ever seen on the track, that guy have excellent skills, the bike rides really well from what I can hear and see also he made me feel like i was the one riding the bike.-Green.T
i like 2 strokes but u know everyone likes wat they like i have a 4 stroke ut my next dirtbike will be a 2 stroke for sure also im 12 dont harass me thats child pornography lol
It would be the perfect bike for you. Tall enough and at only 2 pounds, you would have a serious power to weight ratio advantage over everyone else. The only problem I see will be to find a riding gear...
And on racedays when a course becomes nasty the mobility of a two stroke lets you choose alternate lines easier...getting crossed up in whoops and holes is less dramatic... easier to make adjustments. Amazing ride Ryan.
TheBummRules CloudClan 3 stroke, what? I think you meant 2. Yea 2 stroke def has twice as much power per CC, but that doesn't mean much. 4 stroke is smoother power, easier to ride and pros and mostly everyone else put out consistently faster lap times on them. You wont see one 125cc in the pro races, here they allow 250 2 strokes against 250 4s for pros also during national events. They have done tests with multiple pros riding both 250 4/2 stroke and they were way more consistent on the 4. On sand tracks, 2 strokes are sexy though. And I do admit, I rode all different types of 2 strokes and they are more fun to ride.
if a race was only 2-3 laps no 250 A or 450 A rider would touch him period... thats how fast he is even time i watch im just like holy fuck im still watching this in 2016
I ride mine harder than that, I'm NOT QUICK AT ALL on a track but I'm NOT nice too it at all and I still make mine last 50 hours. He should have no problem making it through an entire season on 3 topends if it weren't for him having a pro crew taking care of it every race week
more like every 60 hours...anyone that does it more than every 40 is an idiot. And thats a piston and or ring alone. People waste so much money on top ends its not even funny all cuz they dont know how long they last or how to take care of them
That was AWESOME! Thanks for the ride. I will never tire of that sound - mechanical music played beautifully on a real instrument. Yamaha should send you a check for that performance. I loved the 4-stroke guy looking over in defeat at 3:58 - priceless.
no one needs a 450...even on grass my 01 yz125 is near inpossible to keep the front end down on if you give it the full beans....450s are even worse and not really that much faster topped out unless geared for it
yeah it is mounted under the visor some people can ride with it there but my friend did a visor mount and he said it got in your vision a little..i haven't personally tried it but that's what I heard from my friend
***** Yeah I understand. I think its on the bottom of the visor, or at least thats what I would do. I'm sure it will work the other way on certain helmets.
I don't see how this bike with a 144 kit can't be competitive outdoors...the only other person i have seen rail milestone this hard was kyle cunningham...epic footage
the 2 stroke engine for the most part can keep up with the 4 stroke. power and torque is more consistent and smoother on the 4 stroke which makes for easier cornering. also, the slightly more advanced suspension system on 4 strokes along with the added weight is overall a better more effective system. im not saying it cant be done. im a 2 stroke rider. but i can honestly say, theres a reason that 4 strokes are primarily used in motocross/supercross.
For everybody that thinks this is sped up, do you're research, Ryan is an amateur professional MX racer, he knows what he is doing, search him up, also if you pay attention, his is in top gear pinned almost the whole time, not on turns though.
I've got this guy who owns a track in his back yard he's my personal trainer been racing for 30 years, find someone with some land maybe you can build your own track
Liam Darrington you obviously don't know how fast you can rip a 125 if you think THAT bike has motor work. ever hear the expression "its not the bike, its the rider"?
Who said that you can not be fast on a 125 cc two stoke? Amazing skills Reminds me when I was young and CAN ride a 125 two stroke; for sure, I was not even close to this guy.
WOW THE RIDING WAS INSANE!! Doesn't take a fast bike to be a fast rider! Racers are won in the corners and this guy was absolutely railing every berm 4th pinned!!
I still watch this 10 years later, friggin sweet
Probably my favorite vid on TH-cam... Can't stop coming back. Surratt is a beast.
I am in AWE, I can't understand how he rode so close to the edge, came in to every corner pinned and never ran off the track. Ryan, you are the man!
That is beastly. You can show this video to all the posers that think they need a 250 2-stroke or 450F because a 125 isn't fast enough.
that rider barely weighs 100lbs, he rips sure, but a normal adult rider can't stay on a 125

honestly how is there 50 dislikes…he's probably the fastest guy ever on a 125
Zachary Silverman Thank You. hahaha

MotoGoProVids speed up
If you meant ' it was sped up ' Then no, just no. You clearly don't know how much of a talent Ryan Surratt is haha
MotoGoProVids I wasn't saying it was speed up I was saying like go faster Kirk speed up

dude that's the easiest track in America,no ruts ,no woops,nothing...........
I think the video has been speeded up a little bit. You can do it in Final Cut Pro (video editing suite).
***** No, its the super wide view from the Hero 3+ makes everything look a lot faster
***** it has been speeded up you can tell by the adjustments he makes in the air no 1 in the world can move a bike like that in the air

Awesome video, premix is still alive and well I see
Im a fetus and 6" tall and 2 pounds. Would this be a good bike for me? I know how to use a clutch and can ride my dads CR500 with big bore kit.
It would be the perfect bike for you. Tall enough and at only 2 pounds, you would have a serious power to weight ratio advantage over everyone else. The only problem I see will be to find a riding gear...
Perfect bike for u brother
watched this everyday since November, and has yet to get old.
bring back the two strokes! Who else thinks there should be a once a year race with the top 20 AMA 250 and 450 riders all riding 125's?
yes that would be great i woudd love to see stewart on a 125 again

I have watched this piece or art over ten times already. Saves on my favorite awesome list.
And on racedays when a course becomes nasty the mobility of a two stroke lets you choose alternate lines easier...getting crossed up in whoops and holes is less dramatic... easier to make adjustments. Amazing ride Ryan.
Damn bro the most fastest rider I've ever seen on a gopro. Keep up the riding

+MinecraftHacker he's a pro, he has like 4 race bikes and 2 practice bikes and he has a mechanic
Yea the 125 tends to be a practice bike for pros, but they are a ton of fun
+MinecraftHacker that there are... I miss my old YZ 125.
I ride mine harder than that, I'm NOT QUICK AT ALL on a track but I'm NOT nice too it at all and I still make mine last 50 hours. He should have no problem making it through an entire season on 3 topends if it weren't for him having a pro crew taking care of it every race week

Is the camera mounted under his visor? That seems to be becoming a trend
yeah it is mounted under the visor some people can ride with it there but my friend did a visor mount and he said it got in your vision a little..i haven't personally tried it but that's what I heard from my friend
jake urbo Yeah I guess it just depends on the type of helmet you have or how high you have the visor adjusted.
***** Yeah I understand. I think its on the bottom of the visor, or at least thats what I would do. I'm sure it will work the other way on certain helmets.
Holy shit that's hands down one of the fasted 125 vids I've seen I want to see the 3rd person! That Nac Nac was insane too! Faved!
Im 60 feet tall and 900 pounds
I'm 3 and I'm 20 pounds I ride a 1999 cr 500 I like the fact it goes BRAPP
+Jed Jeakings hahahahhaha
Killing out there! And nailing those whips!!!
I don't see how this bike with a 144 kit can't be competitive outdoors...the only other person i have seen rail milestone this hard was kyle cunningham...epic footage
On a nice smooth track a 125 could definitely be competitive, but the 4 stokers shine once the track gets roughed up with braking bumps and what not
the 2 stroke engine for the most part can keep up with the 4 stroke. power and torque is more consistent and smoother on the 4 stroke which makes for easier cornering. also, the slightly more advanced suspension system on 4 strokes along with the added weight is overall a better more effective system.
im not saying it cant be done. im a 2 stroke rider. but i can honestly say, theres a reason that 4 strokes are primarily used in motocross/supercross.
This is now officially the best 125 video on TH-cam haha. I think this is better than jimmy d.
This is fucking insane.. Ive seen everything from roczen to tomac etc.. even live but this gave me goosebumps..
For everybody that thinks this is sped up, do you're research, Ryan is an amateur professional MX racer, he knows what he is doing, search him up, also if you pay attention, his is in top gear pinned almost the whole time, not on turns though.
God i wish i could get this fast...i never get to practice very many times in a row. practicing once a month doesnt help you get faster!
I've got this guy who owns a track in his back yard he's my personal trainer been racing for 30 years, find someone with some land maybe you can build your own track

Liam Darrington
This guy knows how to ride, and its a 2014.

Liam Darrington you obviously don't know how fast you can rip a 125 if you think THAT bike has motor work. ever hear the expression "its not the bike, its the rider"?
