Almost all “big ticket” things I needed I got for waaaaaayyy cheaper on the marketplace or hand-me-downs. The bouncer, Moses basket and stand, swing, dresser, Snoo, side tables, a TON of clothes, cloth diapers, Ubbi pail etc. It makes a huge difference in cost.
Ironically you answered a question I wasn't expecting answered. I'm nursing (alternating) on one side and using the haskaa on the other because I'm building a stash for when I have to work. But now with all the formula shortages happening I'm actually considering donation if my supply will allow and I think my current method (especially after what you just said) might actually help with that. So 3 minutes in and already grateful I picked this video
Guys, even less than most of this. If you have a healthy baby as most moms say, 1. care for yourself (especially make sure you have some sort of support person or people the days after birth) and baby basically needs 2. a place to sleep (which, if you forget can just be your bed, or a floor matress) 3. something to keep them warm (clothes, onesies/footies are easiest depending on your location and season and blankets) and 4. a place to lay them down on the ground comfortably (such as a playmat, or if you just have a fluffy carpet that you don't think is too toxic, then a good vacuum to clean it) 5. some situation for their GI removals (are you trying elimination communication? cloth diapers?) 6. health and hygiene products (you will want some just in case - something to lower temperature for example, and some that you will use more frequently such as nail trimming supplies... thermometers are imo useless, you either get the rectal ones you don't want to use, or the unprecise ones by which you might as well just feel them with your hands) really most things are just nice to have extras. And then there tend to be several variants of the same nice-to-have item, so sure, try multiple and try getting them second hand and move them on if you don't want them. I'd also strongly consider a nursing setup either a *proper* nursing pillow, or perhaps a chair? Your back will thank you :)
And for everyone excitedly expecting or trying for a baby, good luck! Some things you can do while you wait are: 1. take care of yourself, get your body ready! If still possible work out, eat nutritiously, spend all your budget allows for good solid food, don't forget probiotic things such as acidophilic milk and yogurt to support gut bacteria (and your newborn's gut bacteria if they come vaginally and you don't have streptococcus) 2. read up! Educate yourself about all that you will want to have known (because there will be less time than you probably anticipate) Learn all about labour, different interventions, so you can make informed decisions. Learn all about different parenting styles to see which one you want to try. Reflect on your own childhood and think what you want to do the same or differently. BLW, 3. CLEAN UP. Declutter. Minimalize. Organize. Can't stress this enough. With the baby's arrival there will be an influx of things you actually need and can't really omit. Babies thrive in organized calm environments (and your post-partum self stuck at home will too). If you have struggle letting go of things but have the luxury of having a place to store them, store away as much of what you don't need. Cleaning up will be much easier. Optional things 4. Get some courses done. You might like getting a baby first aid course or some parenting lessons. 5. Find likeminded communities and people. You can already find moms in the waiting rooms for your doctor's appointments, or in exercise groups, but also on social media 6. Sweet diy projects. Do your own mobiles, artwork, patch blanket, create lists with foods you want to learn how to cook one day (it may come sooner than you'd expect)
Finding your channel has eased a lot of my anxiety about becoming a mom. I’m hoping to start trying soon & I love watching your journey! Your girls are so adorable & thank you so much for making motherhood approachable.
Hubby and I are going to start trying soon and so I love these kind of videos from simplistic/realistic moms. I was also a nanny for 10 years and know that kids are simple beings and as long as they are Nurtured and loved, they’re pretty content (save toddler emotional moments 😂). I didn’t nanny newborns but did nanny 12+ month olds. I feel like once I get to the toddler stage I know kinda what the heck I’m doing, the newborn stage freaks me out a bit 🤣
We're currently trying for first kid so way premature for this but anyway. Your back pack for your daughter reminds me of the doggy back pack (K9 sport sak) we have for our cavalier king charles spaniels made me smile
Shayla girl, don't feel bad about the SNOO. It's incredible and was a lifesaver with a 3 year old and a newborn. By the time she was 3 months old, baby #2 was sleeping through the night with the SNOO. My youngest daughter is 9 months old and is an incredible sleeper now, well after being in the SNOO from day one through to 6 months. Sublime sleeper: daytime naps without blackout curtains, quit the pacifier at 6 mo., and stopped the sound machine at 7 mo.. I will say, she rarely did naps in the SNOO but slept in there every evening > even when we took a week long road trip! Transition to a crib in her own room was also a breeze. I know this reads like an advertisement but it's almost as if this magical machine taught my daughter how to sleep beautifully. We rented and returning it was quite easy. My family and I talk about the experience fondly to this day! 😂
We ended up with so much stuff with our first because he was both the first grandchild and first baby in our friend group. If we have another all I'll buy for baby are some more nappies and wipes, some new bottles and back up parts for the pump, and maybe some formula and a few extra clothes if they're born at a different time of year. Everything else will be for me, and if I have another C section I won't need anything because I have it all already! Newborns really don't need a lot.
I have my first baby, she’s three months, and had a good amount of things bought before she was born. My neighborhood just had a garage sale day, and I got so many more toys. I have two more play gyms, for instance, and having some more places to put her to entertain herself in different rooms is so helpful. They were cheap anyway.
I have a registry, first babe is 4 and will be almost 5 when baby is born. The registry is mostly for us to organize and to get the discount on items. At least 10 friends have asked if we are having a shower or what they can buy. We decided a laid back “party” but it’s not gonna be a shower or sprinkle really. Basically just a celebration for baby that all our friends can come hang out. Gifts are welcome but not requested, and I won’t share my registry or request anything specific unless people specifically ask for it. I like the diapers and wipes ideas, but we cloth so I don’t need that either.
The earth mama cream is the best! It smells like chocolate (cocoa butter) and is creamy and amazing. I use it as hand cream since i have some left haha
The hack I found: Don’t buy a video “baby monitor”, they jack up the prices on them. Big a security camera or dog camera and use it for the baby. I got mine for $20
Look into the dream on me coast rider instead of the buggy board. It’s like a mini stroller that attaches to ANY stroller. The attachment is sold separately tho
Get silverettes!!! You won’t need nipple cream once if you use them. A miracle. A life-changer. Best $68 ever spent. I’m serious. Get the xl size because they’re not big.
That’s a pretty hard and fast rule 🤔 what about different genders? What about twins? What if family and friends want to give you a shower so they can celebrate each baby?
ALWAYS do a registry!!!! Especially with Amazon and Target!!!! I barely gave out the links- but both give AHHMAZIMG coupons and discounts!! Target has a “year of baby” after your due date- that continues to give you great diaper, formula, wipes, baby food etc. coupons!!
@@themindfulstrings they don’t, they commented on another video from 9 months ago saying they’re not pregnant and don’t have kids 🙄 love when non parents try to give parents advice 🤦♀️

I’m working on my registry for my FIRST but I appreciate watching the 2nd time mom videos for a little more clarity on what I really need!
Sooooo smart!!!
I'm in the same boat! And I am here for it!

I fell In love with Babylist this is my first pregnancy
I washed all my baby clothes the week before my due date....40 weeks and 2 days today, come on baby!

I love that cream from earth mama too! It's a life saver and i recommend it to every new nursing mom I know

Yep, I’m watching Marketplace for 3-5 items I either didn’t buy the first time or just need “new” again, and then doing a Diapers/Wipes shower.
Alsoooo elksbar cloth diapers designed by a lady in Denmark. Beautiful!!!
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend the Elvie curve over the Hakka. Baby can’t kick/hit it off
So helpful Shayla, thanks so much for the tips!!!
I just love your channel girl! I hope your labor is everything you hope for !💜🙏
she had her baby!
We had no registry with either one of our kids, I think I bought like two sleepers and a baby wrap for our second, otherwise we reused everything

You could put practical things that toddlers will need, snack cups, water bottles, the wee sprout plates etc…
You can also add things from other websites onto your Amazon registry
Look into the dream on me coast rider instead of the buggy board.
It’s like a mini stroller that attaches to ANY stroller. The attachment is sold separately tho

I did get these!! I forgot to say but I haven’t needed them or the nipple butter 🤯
With bottles, I find babies aren’t all that particular. If you just introduce one kind of bottle and none others, they don’t develop a preference.
Post partum NEED is Dermoplast!!!!
Watching this a year later and the link for the bedside sleeper doesn’t work anymore. Does anyone know what it’s called?
Haaka has one called the Ladybug that you stick inside your bra to catch the letdown. Very discreet and no spills!
Yes! And little to no suction, so it won't mess up your supply!
You know it’s be great if you just put together a public registry not for people to get you but for poeple to use as a template for themselves
Not a terrible idea!
There should NEVER be a second registry, especially if the first baby is less than 5.
That’s a pretty hard and fast rule 🤔 what about different genders? What about twins? What if family and friends want to give you a shower so they can celebrate each baby?

Curious if you’ve had children yourself?:)
@@themindfulstrings they don’t, they commented on another video from 9 months ago saying they’re not pregnant and don’t have kids 🙄 love when non parents try to give parents advice 🤦♀️
Yes there should. Diapers, pacifiers, shampoo, double strollers, car seat…many other things that don’t get “left over” from the first child
