    Just as something to mention. If you have an Engine Room, you don't need Doors on the connecting Thrusters. This way you spare some money. Another Thing you might save some more Materials or money. One Medium Reactor is outputing like three small ones by costing only like two of them. And on the same time the medium Reactor give you double size batteries, so one crewmember can cary twice as much power.

      To add on, a capacitor will take double-capacity batteries and change them to single batteries. So if you're using a medium reactor or larger, you're hurting yourself if you're still using capacitors.

    Something I've just found out. If you have multiple weapons (disruptor is best with this in my opinion the one that takes the enemies energy) you can ctrl + shift + click them all and stagger their fire. Means they'll fire one at a time spreading the draining potential hopefully keeping the systems down more consistently.

    Thanks for showing me all the micromanaging features! I didn’t know that was possible, will start using it right away. Here’s some advice in exchange:
    You can save blueprints! The game can generate .png files that have all the ship’s data embedded in the metacode, so you can share your designs with us like your DSP content. Just click the dropdown while in build mode.
    Building specialized ships is a real game-changer. You can make a slim and sleek attack ship with just enough storage for repairs and have it rush from place to place, killing constantly, and chase after it with your miner/hauler ship with a skeleton crew, just cleaning up after it. I also have a space station, which is a convenient way to store resources for the long-term, as well as being the place where I keep my factories. I’ve outfitted it with FTL capabilities, so it follows my fleet around every time I jump systems. I never have to spend money anymore, for builds or for repairs, because my station is so well-stocked. It saves you the losses that come with selling stuff and then rebuying it later when you build.

    You are likely going to find the limitations of that new design rather quickly. I had similar issues with my first few designs. Disruptor brought down the shields, laser got pounded and then the reactor which resulted in the entire front just ceasing to exist. Even a single layer of Internal armor goes a long way. Also, your ship has gotten big enough that you should be using medium reactor. If you offset things a bit, you can block direct fire paths to the reactor. In my case, there's 3 layers of armor in front of the reactor and shield module. To make sure that the shields are supplied, my reactor is adjacent. One thing that the game does not make obvious is the fact that the batteries produced by the medium reactor are 2x. It means that your crew can supply more energy with a single trip. Another thing that you can do is to put one set of lasers on the side of the ship instead of the front and replace that with armor. Most weapons can fire at slightly more than a 90 degree angle. The end result is that I rarely have to worry about more than paying a plate or two in repairs.

    • @lycon7000
      @lycon7000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How would you put a layer of armor on the front? Cant put it infront of the gun cause then it cant fire and cant place it behind the gun cause then the crew cant get there anymore? Im new btw.

      block direct fire paths to the reactor. That's rather simple to do. Just put the weapon more to the left, or more to the right or the reactor. Make sure there's at least a block or two of armor in between the reactor and anything that is exposed.

    Agree Mediums are really nice. I have not really found a use for larges normally I would rather have 2 mediums then 1 large. I like how your diagonal ship had a top speed of 89 but the new one has a top speed of 82. I hated wasting the thrust by not being on the correct orientation but what you have to remember is this is a combat ship so all the directions are important (forward, backwards, left, right, clockwise and conterclock wise) and you tend to have thrusters in all directions. Once you start fleet battles around level 5-6 you will see how limiting single direction thrusters designs are. Diagonal ships use 50% of thrusters to go forward but straight ships only use 25% so straight ships are more energy efficient but diagonal ships are more powerful. I think I need about 10% of my crew to power my straight ships and 12% to power my diagonal ships but the diagonals tend to be 10-20% faster.

    10:50 About assignments... You overcomplicated things a bit. You really did not need to assign roles to make it work properly. Between restricting the crew to specific parts of the ship and supply mode, you can get everything to work properly. If you tell a squad to tend to a reactor and give them no assignment, you really do not need to restrict them to do only batteries. The only thing that they will do is "tend to that reactor". Keeping your crew roles generic can in fact be more beneficial since you mix and match a bit your assignments. For exemple, my rear reactor crew is also assigned to the cockpit and jump drive. You don't need to assign crew to the shield. As long as you set supply mode correctly, the crew assigned to the reactor will take care of it. The more complex you make your assignments, the more chances there are that something is going to break.

HE rocket carrier (110 crew) with 14 launchers that give you terrible DPS from distance 3. Space Base (all left available crew, 100+), bassicaly my square unlimited storage rooms and factories.

    @Nilaus if you click on 'Roster' inside the crew menu, you can select a bedroom and it will show all it's crew highlighted. That way, you can move crew from one bedroom to another.
    This way you can have 4 crew inside a room that can house 6, for example.
    Another tip: hovering over a blueprint's icon in a station will tell you how much it cost to build. So you can save resources beforehand instead of buying the blueprint and finding out you cant build it.

  • @fuzzy-02
    @fuzzy-02 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ammo factory gives the least return but have the highest % profit when you consider these 3 factors: selling raw mats vs selling product // price to unlock the factory // and most importantly, factory cost.
    The more advanced ones do return a good profit but they cost a ton to build, to a point where simply the time spent on gathering the required resources would make building more ammo factories and selling ammo over the same period of time more profitable.
    That's at least to my humble maths, and it's also why I won't touch factories in my current run until Ican build a dedicated 'station' ship just for production that I'll keep docked to a station.

    How much bonus do you get from engine rooms?
    Sorry I keep commenting when I'm ignorant on the game mechanics (though I'm happy you read my 70% power comment), but looking at your diagonal ship at the beginning I wonder if you can negate the thrust penalty from diagonal engines by cramming more engines next to the engine room and/or replace thrusters with engine rooms? Because you could use all four sides of the engine room for the adjacency bonus while it's diagonal, but can only really use 3 sides of it for a straight ship, right? For example, maybe if you rearrange the blueprint for the diagonal ship, swap the two little thrusters on the outside edge of your thruster group there to the middle, then scootch the outside big thrust up a little so the touch the engine room too, that would improve things?

    • @kmo9790
      @kmo9790 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a 50% bonus. You could use the engines like you describe, but it makes it harder to put crew and power next to the engine room so even in diagonal ships the tendency is to use three sides.

    • @daanstrik4293
      @daanstrik4293 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      An engine room gives a 50% bonus to the power of any touching trusters.
      Do note that this buff doesn't stack with the addition of more engine rooms.

    • @frankmc8355
      @frankmc8355 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wait, the bonus is 50%? I was assuming it would be something like 10-20%. That's like a cheat code for thrust/weight ratio.
      Yeah 100% you should be doing more to cram more engines next to the engine room, and that would make diagonal ships way more viable. put a couple doors in the top corner and make sure all the rest of the surface area is touching an engine on the diagonal ship, move things around on the factory ship so at least 3 sides of those are being used for bonuses.
      EDIT: Mathing it out with the geometry, I reckon you can fit 2 standard thrusters and 4 big trusters on a diagonal ship's engine room (total power = 22.8 kN), 1 standard + 3 big on a straight ship (16.2 kN). If you do the trig with the diagonal thrusters, it works out to 22.8*sqrt(2)/2=16.1 kN lateral force per engine room, almost exactly euqal to a straight engine room.
      Now, you have to buy more thrusters to get that power, but as far as designing the ship for geometry, you're getting the same forward thrust from the same area, and you can probably cut lateral thrusters to make up for needing extra forward/reverse thrust.
      ...I should just buy the damn game if I'm going to spend this much time engineering on it.

FYI, from my experiece in classic and having bought the game just 3 days ago, 1 engine (with 4-6 massive thrusters) only requires 1 small power block and 4-5 crew. So a medium power block can sustain 2 engines (with 8-12 massive thrusters) in close proximity and 8-9 crew. Diagonal ships get a balanced amount of thrust in all directions with some loss in thrust and can strafe and turn effectively, but for straight ships, thrusters have to be shooting directly left and right to strafe, and clusters of foreward/reverse thrusters have to decently far apart to achieve good turn rates. And please stop putting engines in the front of your ship. Your diagonal ship is massively energy over powered.
    I am playing on admiral+architect difficulty and in the 1st sector, cleared even the pirate bases with 2 medium power blocks, 4 small shields, 4 small lasers and 2 disruptors, while hauling a wide tail of storage about half the length of the build grid. Dude, you even have the crazy huge shields. I had 2 sets of thrusters on either side of the ship powered by 1 small power block. The pirate bases are killing you with the ion beams. Learn to rotate your ship left and right to soak the beams and buy time to repower the depleted monster shield. And approach the platforms defending the base with the base directly behind so only 1 beams hits your ship. After you clear all the platforms, rush in from behind the debris field of one of the platforms. Oh, and you obviously need disruptors to kill their shields to get to their prisms and ion beam block. Disruptors not only leech shields dry, it also leeches energy-based devices dry, like engines, lasers, power blocks. I seriously recommend having at least 2.
    And you want to use 1 medium power block vs 2 small power blocks since a medium power block means that your crew carries 2 energy to the device instead of 1. That's a massive upgrade in crew efficiency, especially for sustaining hungry shields getting depleted by disruptors. So a large energy block delivers 3 energy per crew run, as long as your devices are close enough, otherwise you will want to speed them up with the travelators.
    I have essentially cleared a 2nd sector and left with just exploring the fogged spaces. I have not even gone into specific crew tasking at this point, that is, I'm still using regular redshirts.
    You generally can't have it all, especially in the early release, because you are limited by crew and critical resources. And selling the hypercoils and tritanium is going to hurt you a lot later on. You don't even have a mining laser...

    Credits are kinda useless sometimes. U can only buy stuff with them after unlocking everything (buying crew drains basically no money). And u cant buy vauable stuff because no one has much at all. You just get millions sitting around doing nothing. U should be able to order a delivery of stuff to your system at a station, because if you were to have a ton of valuable stuff already in the station, it would be highly unbalanced for if you were to attack it.

    je.. diagonal.. super for war ships that have stron direction... not so much for miners, haulers, manufacturing..

    My engineer brain hates a diagonal ship but I see it's perks.

    Hyper jump sounds are noticeable worse as you use time acceleration. Try jumping at speed x1 to enjoy the sound more :face_with_tongue:

    I have similar hyperspace sounds, but mine comes from IBS. 💁‍♂️
