I’ve said for years, Teague’s run down of Lamar Thomas is the greatest “non-play” in the history of football. Would be in the conversation for the greatest play in college football history if not for the fact Alabama was offsides and thus negated the turnover.
I know this from a sportswriter who covered this game: Miami spent all week in the French Quarter talking trash to the press and starting fights. The Bama guys were in by 10 every night (on pain of missing the game completely). I think Coach Stallings may have given an interview, but none of the players did. Alabama came in sober, hungry and ready to play football. Miami thought they could win on their big mouths and previous record, so they were not prepared. And then they whined like babies after the game. That press conference is an exercise in complete lack of class and sportsmanship. "They never let Gino get set!" one whined. Well DUH! That's the defense's job, you big wuss! We're still laughing about this game! It's a legend in Crimson Tide lore!
Agreed. Greatest Defensive Play Ever. I watched this game live, and I had never seen anything like this prior to this game. Teague was my instant hero. Miami Football has never been quite the same since this play.
I'm a Penn State fan but I was definitely rooting for Bama in that game, mostly because the Bear and Paterno were great friends, and I felt like this win was for the Bear (also, my team stunk in 1992, getting trounced in the Blockbuster Bowl). This was an awesome win to cap an amazing season. That play I don't know if it has a name, I've always called it "Teague's Got The Ball" and "The Best Play That Never Happened" because it was nullified by an offsides penalty. Despite that, the play _did_ count indirectly, had Teague not stripped the ball away, Miami would have declined the Offsides penalty, and it certainly had a psychological effect on the Hurricanes (who were downgraded to Tropical Storms). They played a bit deflated after that.
The strip, one of the greatest plays to ever happen and most people don't even realize the play never counted. Bama got called for an offsides so the play got called back anyways lol. Roll Tide!!!
Look at the speed Teague has! Thomas thought he was gonna waltz in that end zone. My brother has a poster of the second that Teague strips the ball. It's great! One of Miami's cheerleaders has a look on her face like she's gonna puke! And there's a photographer about six inches off the ground with a look of "Oh no!" It's amazing how Teague just closes in on him as if he said, "Nah, screw this. I'm catchin' this fool & takin' it from him." Determination baby...Let's win another one against LSU
Notice how Teague puts on the afterburner and then gets in step with Lamar the last two strides. Nearly like a track relay hand off lol. The best play I ever saw as a 40 year Bama fan......hands down. Especially considering Thomas was talking smack that we couldn't cover him. What a fool.
@@Dollar-zb2ik That play came just a few seconds after Teague had run back that pick 6 that basically sealed the game. Later he said he was gassed and loafing when Lamar Thomas broke free. Teague said all he could think about was coaches and teammates yelling at him for loafing and allowing the score. Even though he was dead tired, he gave extra effort for his teammates and coaches. An amazing play that doesn't show up in the history books.
I remember there being so much hype about the speed of Miami's receivers before that National Championship game. George Teague ran one of their best down from 15 yards back. RTR!
Teague's rundown of that Miami player was The Greatest Defensive Play in The History of College Football..... Period.... And I'm an LSU fan! But greatness is greatness, and it must be recognized.
Kenneth Hoffman keep your death valley comment. Just show up jerry's world September 2. Ed mite get fired like les miles after miami get in that a...s. GoCanes 😎
George Teague stripping the ball from Lamar Thomas is my favorite play in the game of football. My second favorite is George Teague knocking the crap out of T.O. when he show boated on the Star in the Cowboys stadium.
Dude, Matt Leinart played 7 years in the NFL, lots of so so players can last off of ST and practice squads and being backups. Longevity has nothing to do with success.
Dude came full circle in his last game at Alabama vs. Miami for the National Championship. He had sort of been picked on a few years before that in the previous Sugar Bowl vs. Miami (1990). He was a young freshman then but this time as a senior he delivered two crucial plays in the victory.
I attended the parade in Tuscaloosa after that NC Sugar Bowl game.....I screamed so hard and loud at Teague, he looked at me and laughed like hell!!! GOD I LOVE GEORGE TEAGUE!!! ROLL TIDE!!!!!
The result of the play ended up being an offsides penalty against Alabama, but it still saved a TD, and getting the strip ended up negating about 75 yards for Miami.
I remember Lamar Thomas was talking much shit about Bama and that secondary. He said they were slow and would run past all the dB's. Lol...he got caught from 6 yards back by a determined George Teague!! I went to school with George, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was fast then too.
Chris Kreager It was Langham who had the pick six in the 92 Iron Bowl. He followed that up with "the play that changed college football" in the sec champ game against UF.
Yep. Langham was one of the last of great player to come out of the pipeline of Town Creek. Tiny little place, I think they were all related. Yes, Langham was a 5 star recruit and Teague a 4 star who played above his athleticism, which was suburb. Both would start for a Saban team. Teague was on fire during this game, but yes Langham was the pre and post season All American.
***** Yes Langham was the real deal. That's cool about Town Creek. I never knew he was from there. It is a tiny little place. The population has actually decreased slightly since his days. I can't stop watching Bama videos. I'm super excited about some college football!
something clever Its halfway between Huntsville and Florence east to west. I believe it was a plantation town. It's basically an intersection on the road modern era. Very uncanny to have nearly 10 professional athletes come from a town of 1000 people. Some of the best athletes the state produced I think from area. Ole Jessie Owens was born not to far away in Moulton. .
I remember the Teague play against Miami. It seems like it was just last year even though it's been over 20 years ago. That was the Christmas gift to my brother, his wife and my niece. And yes I went too!
Adrenaline & Want to is amazing thing. Lamar Thomas was one of the most feared deep threats in College football. Rarely caught from Behind. #13 Reminded of the Terminator running down his prey.😮
After that play it was over as it sucked the life out of the team. F'kin Lamar. Saw it live in the Superdome. Had to keep a friend from damn near killing himself..Cough Eric. Crazy cane fan friend of mine. Looong ride home back to Coral Springs Fl lol.
That's my all time favorite play, even if it didn't count cause of a offside penalty, that mouthy ass Lamar Thomas had a visit from karma that night, ROLL Teague ROLL TIDE, also like that early 2nd half pik where he hi stepped it into the enzone, pik 6 against Geno spaghettio
@THEALABAMANATI0N I was at that parade too man. My apartment was only two blocks from the strip. Tuscaloosa was a great place to be that year! It's a great place as it is, but that 92-93 school year was awesome! I just got through watching a special on ESPN about the SEC championship game that yr & how it was the 1st conference championship game ever. Langham made the killer play in that game. fun fact that Miami player was Lamar Thomas, the guy who commentated the Miami-FIU fight
Never seen anything in my 70 years that compares with The Strip! Best football play ever!
I’ve said for years, Teague’s run down of Lamar Thomas is the greatest “non-play” in the history of football. Would be in the conversation for the greatest play in college football history if not for the fact Alabama was offsides and thus negated the turnover.
When I’m in a bad mood because the world is going to hell in a handbasket, this video makes me smile!
Bomani Jones sent me
Seconds from scoring only to realize he no longer even has the ball.Incredible play.

Agreed. Greatest Defensive Play Ever. I watched this game live, and I had never seen anything like this prior to this game. Teague was my instant hero. Miami Football has never been quite the same since this play.
George Teague has the physique of a modern-day five-star DB. He would fit right in on a Nick Saban roster. All century.
Lamar Thomas looked back at Teague a few times, knew he was coming, and still got stripped.
He went the F'K off that game..
He was all over the field shutting down Miami offense..
UNREAL PERFORMANCE 🙌
Lamar Thomas was a track star at TheU and Teague walked him down like he was a 3rd string guard! Roll Tide!
That is the only bama game I've ever been to. I drove all the way from Colorado springs to New Orleans. That play alone was worth the drive. Roll Tide

I'm 36 but I was 10 yrs old sitting at the foot of my parents bed when this play happened. I will never forget this play.

Greatest Nullified Play of All Time.
The strip, one of the greatest plays to ever happen and most people don't even realize the play never counted. Bama got called for an offsides so the play got called back anyways lol. Roll Tide!!!
It didn’t count….. but it did. Had Thomas scored Miami definitely would’ve declined the off sides call.
Not to mention it broke Miami's spirit completely.
Thing of sheer beauty. ROLL TIDE ALWAYS AND FOREVER.
That sideline trip was by far the most memorable, defensive plate in college football history
man I have been talking about this play since I saw it in 93! Greatest play ever!
And that play didn’t count because of an offside call against us. But, Teague saved the touchdown.
For me, it was the top until 2nd and 26.
The day i became a bama fan
Look at the speed Teague has! Thomas thought he was gonna waltz in that end zone. My brother has a poster of the second that Teague strips the ball. It's great! Best college defense ever in my opinion, even better than georgia this past season.
Miami hasn’t been the same since
Nope
it doesn't matter if ur a bammer or not... this is the greatest play in College football history. i mean, damn.
I was glad miami got beat cos they were arrogant
Posted pre-2nd and 26
Yes on the best defense in college football history
I'm a DIE HARD WAR EAGLE FAN but damn did he just run ol dude down and took the ball from him that deserves a ROLL TIDE DAMNNNN
Right on brother, thanks great comment especially coming from a Auburn fan
He ran down one of the fastest guys on that '92 Miami team. It was called back due to Bama being offsides.
War Eagle!! I HATE bama...but as a 6 yr old in 92 I’ve still never seen a play like this since

They deserved all the embrassment that happen to them in that game Miami talked so much shit for a month about how bad they was gonna beat bama 🤣🤣🤣
I loved it when Teague knocked Terrell Owens off the Cowboy’s Star.
He said that cost him 10 grand buy it was worth every penny 🤣

Oh I remember this so well. Greatest play ever.
The greatest defensive play that i have ever saw. I remember watching it live and thinking the same thing......period
having Langham and Teague patrolling the secondary and Curry and Copeland up front on the line was a lot to overcome. Alabama had a great D that year.
Forced fumble and fumble recovery at the exact same time. And to do it in the Championship game? Legendary.
It's never Too late in life to become an Alabama fan.

My second favorite is George Teague knocking the crap out of T.O. when he show boated on the Star in the Cowboys stadium.
The best play I have ever seen in college football (George Teague stripping Lamar Thomas). Teague didn't even break his stride.
There was only one George Teague. Unbelievable ability to strip balls and that giant high step, man!
Not even a Bama fan but holy shit talk about dedication.
I'm here after the Right Time
Teagues rundown vs . Larry Allen's just WOW .
0 dislikes. That means 2 things. George Teague is amazing and everyone hates Miami
"What happened to Teague in the NFL? Why didn't he succeed?"
He did. He played nine seasons in the NFL. You don't do that unless you're pretty good.
When Terrell Owens stood on the Dallas Star after a touch down, George was the one who took him out.
Dude, Matt Leinart played 7 years in the NFL, lots of so so players can last off of ST and practice squads and being backups. Longevity has nothing to do with success.
Jo backson, I agree, he had seven picks in his nfl career
He played for Dallas number 30
My jaw is still on the floor.
This was the best play in the 1992 National Championship game against Miami!!! ROLL TIDE
Thomas called Bama's secondary weak. Talk about your mouth writin' checks...

“he took the ball! TEAGUE’S GOT THE BALL!” Irony is that play never counted, as Bama was off sides or something.
It didn’t count but it did. Had Thomas scored, Miami definitely would’ve declined the off sides call.
