You have to give credit where credit is due. The Boz wouldn’t have made it thru the O-line like that without the help of #92 NG Tony Cassias. He pulled the center left or right to make the hole for The Boz to run thru to get in the backfield. So no matter what it looks like, it’s a team effort.
I played NG for 13 years. I’m paying for it today but I patterned my play after him. That’s when I realized what he was doing. He was a badass in my book. Great guy though. I learned a lot just watching his films. He was a monster.
After a few of these tackles, he said something (probably pretty intimidating) to the guy on the ground. Wouldn't be allowed today because it might hurt someone's feelings.

A freer and more dangerous world fosters more exciting characters like this, and to me that tradeoff seems mostly worthwhile. It's not an exaggeration to say that people were more alive in those times. They also danced, and sang, and laughed a whole lot more.

LOL I tried to emulate that when I played in high school and got quite a few off sides calls. He also had phenomenal pursuit and closing speed! I still remember him at his press conference when he turned pro, with coach Switzer sitting next to him rolling his eyes, as Bosworth told the media how great he was. What a character! If I'm not mistaken, I think ESPN did a 30 for 30 on him that I'd like to see.
I met Brian in a sushi restaurant in Miami with his agent 1997. Very friendly, affable, likeable guy. We talked about his book I owned The Boz. He was filming a show called Lawless. Great guy.

Loved Boz,great motor,speed,nose for the ball. It's too bad his shoulders went so young. His only flaw was his tackling,always high,alot of horse collars and short grabs. Always got em down,just not many big hits. Definitely one of the best college lb's I ever watched.
I loved watching him play oh, he was a one-man Wrecking Crew and had the passion that Baker Mayfield has when he plays. Ihave to mention General Patton and Jimi Hendrix with Boz and Mayfield and no doubt why you ask understandably so it's because they all had such passion and love for what they did and it's just my sometimes humble opinion that the reason they were so good at what they did and still do is because they love doing it it's simply their passion. And boss was one of the faster middle linebackers to ever play the game. And major props to him.
Bosworth was great in college. His shoulders couldn't hold out so his NFL career didn't last too long. So many people only seem to remember that play against Bo Jackson.

I've lived in Norman all My Life and have not seen another Bosworth caliber linebacker since His Years at OU. Man was he fun to watch. So cool that Brian came out of Dallas and truly hated the Burnt Orange of Austin..
He was a high school phenom in Texas, so it's not like he came out of nowhere. Steroids were at their peak in the mid 80's to the early 90's. Bosworth was a 240 pound LB tat ran a 4.5 - 4.6, , and strong, before those LB's didn't exist yet. Lawrence Taylor was fast and strong of course, but it was rare to see in College. And his short career at Seattle was much better than people think. Injuries..
I hate when people talk about him being a bust. The dudes shoulders were in horrible condition. He still had over 100 tackles his 1st and second season. He was a freak of nature and that IQ was ridiculous.
The reason everyone had problems with the LBs, well, there was a NoseGuard named Tony Casillas that tore lines apart. Those Sooner defenses were incredible. Troy Aikman went down and Jameile went crazy to win a National Title as a freshman. God knows how many titles they could have had if Marcus Dupree had stayed. Don't forget NFL HoF TE Keith Jackson was right there. Unstoppable. But, perhaps rightfully so, Dupree wasn't happy and he left. Still love him and still have one of his jerseys.
Casillas was so overrated. he was a bust if you remember. He was the #2 pick in the entire draft and had about 10 sacks his whole career. With Dallas in the 90's he played on a powerhouse, and he played running downs, but how can you possibly say Tony Casillas was good? Keith Jackson was great but they never passed. That is why Miami beat them. Boz had 21 tackles against Miami, Dupree was a RB, teams like those, could never come back from behind, cause they couldn't throw it.
I forgot an important aspect. Look at Casillas now. He weighs about 215, even after he retired he shrunk quick, remember he was the smallest DL in the NFL. He had a very mediocre NFL career, he was Hispanic and the genes made him undersized. Did he use steroids?? What do you think.

There is an EXTREME amount of "behind-the-scenes" PAIN Bosworth had to deal with for so many years. Nobody talks about that.
Doctors said at 22 tears old he had a 63 year old shoulder. He had a law suit over NFL insurance that was bought thru Loyds of london. they were saying it was degenerate arthritis, and Boz was saying it was from massively hard hits that took they're toll. they settled.
great LB on a great team. bad shoulders cut a good pro career short. maybe he was pumped up too much, but he was a very solid NFL linebacker when he wasn't injured.
If there was a stat for negative yards created he would probably own that NCAA record. When he blitzed he was in the backfield with reckless abandon on QBs and RBs. His closing speed was insane quick.

Lost among a lot of the controversy is that he was Academic All-Big 8 for 3 years and an Academic All-American. He made sure to finish his coursework in 3 years so he could leave early for the NFL.

I remember being at a OU vs K-State game in Norman, Brian sacked the quarterback, dragged him back several yards , then stood over him yelling with his finger in his face. Flags flying ,15yds. Didn't matter, he got into that guy's head and he couldn't keep his eyes off Brian for the rest of the game.
Bosworth was probably the best college linebacker I ever saw play period. He could play today if he was of college age and still be a All American. He was not a bust in the NFL. His pro career was cut short by knee injuries. His rookie year was very good. Yeah Bo Jackson ran him over, but no one talks about the tackels for losses he had on Bo.

Sorry for the delay of the response. According to the NFL, they banned those tackles in order to reduce knee injuries.
Not to mention the taunting flags.

Loved Boz,great motor,speed,nose for the ball. It's too bad his shoulders went so young. His only flaw was his tackling,always high,alot of horse collars and short grabs. Always got em down,just not many big hits. Definitely one of the best college lb's I ever watched.
I notice that he takes more shoulder impacts from the ground than from other players.

I loved watching him play oh, he was a one-man Wrecking Crew and had the passion that Baker Mayfield has when he plays. Ihave to mention General Patton and Jimi Hendrix with Boz and Mayfield and no doubt why you ask understandably so it's because they all had such passion and love for what they did and it's just my sometimes humble opinion that the reason they were so good at what they did and still do is because they love doing it it's simply their passion. And boss was one of the faster middle linebackers to ever play the game. And major props to him.

Bosworth was great in college. His shoulders couldn't hold out so his NFL career didn't last too long. So many people only seem to remember that play against Bo Jackson.
Nobody could stop Bo once he had speed, Bosworth would have been a good NFL PLayer had his shoulders not giving out. I think when he showed up to Seattle his shoulders were already problematic. I wonder how his shoulders are today?

He was a beast in high school before the juice and a beast on it as well. The unfortunate thing is once labeled it’s hard to shake it. Lot’s of people used it and couldn’t make the plays he made. Great instincts!

He was a high school phenom in Texas, so it's not like he came out of nowhere. Steroids were at their peak in the mid 80's to the early 90's. Bosworth was a 240 pound LB tat ran a 4.5 - 4.6, , and strong, before those LB's didn't exist yet. Lawrence Taylor was fast and strong of course, but it was rare to see in College. And his short career at Seattle was much better than people think. Injuries..

I hate when people talk about him being a bust. The dudes shoulders were in horrible condition. He still had over 100 tackles his 1st and second season. He was a freak of nature and that IQ was ridiculous.

The reason everyone had problems with the LBs, well, there was a NoseGuard named Tony Casillas that tore lines apart. Those Sooner defenses were incredible. Troy Aikman went down and Jameile went crazy to win a National Title as a freshman. God knows how many titles they could have had if Marcus Dupree had stayed. Don't forget NFL HoF TE Keith Jackson was right there. Unstoppable. But, perhaps rightfully so, Dupree wasn't happy and he left. Still love him and still have one of his jerseys.

Casillas was so overrated. he was a bust if you remember. He was the #2 pick in the entire draft and had about 10 sacks his whole career. With Dallas in the 90's he played on a powerhouse, and he played running downs, but how can you possibly say Tony Casillas was good? Keith Jackson was great but they never passed. That is why Miami beat them. Boz had 21 tackles against Miami, Dupree was a RB, teams like those, could never come back from behind, cause they couldn't throw it.
I forgot an important aspect. Look at Casillas now. He weighs about 215, even after he retired he shrunk quick, remember he was the smallest DL in the NFL. He had a very mediocre NFL career, he was Hispanic and the genes made him undersized. Did he use steroids?? What do you think.
There is an EXTREME amount of "behind-the-scenes" PAIN Bosworth had to deal with for so many years. Nobody talks about that.
Doctors said at 22 tears old he had a 63 year old shoulder. He had a law suit over NFL insurance that was bought thru Loyds of london. they were saying it was degenerate arthritis, and Boz was saying it was from massively hard hits that took they're toll. they settled.
Sat. afternoon, no school till Monday, watching college football with Keith Jackson announcing, life didn't get much better than that.

great LB on a great team. bad shoulders cut a good pro career short. maybe he was pumped up too much, but he was a very solid NFL linebacker when he wasn't injured.
If there was a stat for negative yards created he would probably own that NCAA record. When he blitzed he was in the backfield with reckless abandon on QBs and RBs. His closing speed was insane quick.

Played 3 seasons. Had almost 400 tackles!! Championship against Miami, had 22 tackles. The pro's he changed positions. He was the playcaller at strongside, but in the pro's weakside.

Lost among a lot of the controversy is that he was Academic All-Big 8 for 3 years and an Academic All-American. He made sure to finish his coursework in 3 years so he could leave early for the NFL.

I remember being at a OU vs K-State game in Norman, Brian sacked the quarterback, dragged him back several yards , then stood over him yelling with his finger in his face. Flags flying ,15yds. Didn't matter, he got into that guy's head and he couldn't keep his eyes off Brian for the rest of the game.

Bosworth was probably the best college linebacker I ever saw play period. He could play today if he was of college age and still be a All American. He was not a bust in the NFL. His pro career was cut short by knee injuries. His rookie year was very good. Yeah Bo Jackson ran him over, but no one talks about the tackels for losses he had on Bo.
