I really think Swanson/hoerner are both going to have better years this year. Clearly were dealing with some injuries last year. Base running and defense should be very good. Need a little above average bats to make them very valuable
And that only caters to pay for play listeners, and is constantly shilling. I do appreciate Brendon and Cory, though. They at least know what they’re talking about.
Maybe Matt Shaw will be somebody, but prospects are nothing until they prove it in the majors. I'm old enough to remember the hype over Brooks Kieschnick, the Cubs next great 3rd baseman who ended up with career totals of 16 HRs and 46 RBI, less than half of which were with the Cubs.
I think in order to boost Swanson you gotta protect him in the order by hitting him in front of Suzuki or Tucker. Get him some barrels and you'll see his line trend upwards offensively.
I find the financial discussions tiresome, although I realize they’re necessary. I feel like if Iminaga, with all of his personality, can’t sell Roki on the Cubs (assuming he’s part of the sales force) then there’s something wrong with Roki and I say, sayonara.
8:21 what??? Happ finally doesn't have to play the 3hole (Tucker) He finally has that Power behind him where he can play the 2 hole where his Obp is the best, and his Power numbers are very good. Suzuki now has protection as well batting 4th. Gonna see alot of Pitches he didn't and he was on 🔥. The next spots you really gotta manage right. Pca is obviously your leadoff guy. Unless him and Nico rotate leadoff.
Could be the next Cal Ripken or Chipper Jones. As a Rookie same as for Japan players, you need to adjust to alot of things. Length, Pitchers, etc. Cubs should sign a good bridge 3B who can split the time, maybe even a Utility guy with great D and a High Obp. Owen Cassie is in a perfect situation where he can take over for Happ or Suzuki after next year. Spend this year playing some 1B maybe. Maybe 🤔 Triantos is the guy. Maybe you bring both Top 100 guys and them with Nico and Swanson Lock 🔐 it down.
Why not bring up Triantos too? Then you have 2 Top 100 guys added to Gold Glove Inf Nico and Swanson. Can he play the Utility guy or is he a 2B? Not ready?
put a 1B glove in Suzukis hand to be Busch's RH backup for 20 ish games a Year? 1B is not that dificult a position relative to others , He does not want to be a strict DH , wel there is an option ?
So they didn’t trade Hoerner for a 1-2 Ace and didn’t sign any other starters. We blew somewhere around 30 saves in the ninth last year. We need a closer and set up man. We can’t run this exact squad back
They need a late lefty. Most of the returning held ERA under 3. Little and Wicks both did not make huge impressions on being able to shut the door on innings in the pen. I am okay with Wicks/Assad/Brown battling out for the 5. But a late inning lefty is just not in the deck and Jed needs to aquire a legit one vs a hatchet job one.
Matt and Sam, I have a big issue with Cubs Management/Ownership. If we are not going to spend any money to secure top echelon power hitters, then why get rid of one of your better power hitter (Cam Smith) in a trade for a power hitter (Kyle Tucker) who you only have for one more year guaranteed? You drafted and develop Cam Smith and you traded him?
It just seems like the evidence regarding the teams' unwillingness to spend just keeps adding up. It's really unfortunate because it does take some of the joy away from whatever positive moves they make to get better.
I think either 1 of 2 things is going on. Or both. 1 being they are not gonna sign anyone until after sasaki signs. The majority of the people they are in on have qualifying offers which signing them now would cost them international bonus pool money which doesn't help in a bid for sasaki. And 2 the new CBA negotiation happening in 2 years will likely cause a strike and possibly could add a salary cap which changes what players will be able to make.
Not sure why everyone ignores the Rule 5 3B guy, Gage Workman. His hit tool is not developed and may never be--but at the very least, he actually plays _good_ defense at 3B. If he hits .210, but he does have a little power and speed to go with that defense, so what? He's cheap, so I don't see much of a need to pay a scrap heap guy for $5M. Hell, that's the difference between getting a Tanner Scott/Jeff Hoffman or another Hector Neris-type that the Cubs will probably wind up with instead.
First of all nice hat Matt and Merry Christmas to you guys ,have you heard anything about block buster trades or free agents coming to Cubs lol you all have a great day.
When you are talking about your team not spending enough, what you really want is more wins. I get it, but to claim the organization is cheap because the don't operate at a deficit is short-sighted. The only thing that salves a fan base is winning. And it only comes with winning it all. The Dodgers probably fire Roberts if they don't win the Series.
Every show....whining & bitching about the payroll. It really gets old. They spend like a top 5 team & are routinely at the luxury tax. Furthermore, going over doesn't promise anything. In fact, over a long period of time, it's a very poor move for team stability/flexibility. And wanting your team to go over only drives gameday prices up. It's just a tired argument.
They aren't always top 5 payroll but they could be, and that is a legitimate gripe since the Cubs spend OUR money. The other big issue is that they don't build perennial contenders like NYY, NYM, Atlanta, LA, Milwaukee, Houston, etc. Exactly guys, winning is the best moneymaker.
No. They will give him and Alàcantara full reps at Iowa. They give Jed options mid season if they need to add or subtract payroll or have injury depth. Caissie still has another gear to unlock. He has some of the best exit times but the HR don't follow. So he needs to tune his swing path to create more lift. If he was doing this last year then I doubt that Jed targets Tucker. Jed needs HR's coming out from RF more than Cody and Suzuki were providing. Add to it Owen has a Avg glove in RF. So it was worse than Cody's and he did not take to LF in his playing time. So I feel that he has to be able to get his HR game together to move up to the next level as the rest of his tools are avg.
What people really need to stop doing is heaping these lofty expectations on guys who haven't even taken an MLB at-bat yet. Didn't you guys learn anything from Matt Mervis, Alexander Canario, Christopher Morel and countless others? How about we just this Shaw kid settle in and get used to playing at the pro level? It's really unfair to keep doing this. As soon as he goes into an extended slump WHICH HE WILL, you guys are going to be crapping all over him, blaming his for stuff he shouldn't be blamed for. Pro pitchers are pro pitchers for a reason. Stop expecting these kids to come through the door tearing it up.
We need to overpay Bregman to entice him into a two year contract. That might work best with the new bargaining agreement after '26. His value may be even more about our young players development.
Dansby is horrible offensively. The Cubs will miss the Bellinger bat. They will sorely miss Tauchman. How much would Kim cost the Cubs? He could play all middle INF. Why does Tom Ricketts act poor? He is a billionaire
No rhyme or reason….just a gut feeling….Matt Shaw will be just fine at 3rd. Cubs Power!
I really think Swanson/hoerner are both going to have better years this year. Clearly were dealing with some injuries last year. Base running and defense should be very good. Need a little above average bats to make them very valuable
It refreshing to listen to a podcast that just talks cubs baseball instead of doing beer bat chugs and whining the whole time
And that only caters to pay for play listeners, and is constantly shilling. I do appreciate Brendon and Cory, though. They at least know what they’re talking about.
To me the Jesse article smells of the Ricketts CYAing. "Oh, it's not our fault we're not spending we have investors to keep happy"
Cubs fan from San Juan here 🇵🇷 76 degrees 🌤️
But no deep dish
Am really looking forward to seeing Matt shaw play next season and excited to see who the cubs bring in before the season starts
840 OPS from a rookie??? Uhh you may want to temper expectations. That’s pretty insane
I think in order to boost Swanson you gotta protect him in the order by hitting him in front of Suzuki or Tucker. Get him some barrels and you'll see his line trend upwards offensively.
Yup. I would lead him off with Tucker and Suzuki 2 and 3.
I find the financial discussions tiresome, although I realize they’re necessary. I feel like if Iminaga, with all of his personality, can’t sell Roki on the Cubs (assuming he’s part of the sales force) then there’s something wrong with Roki and I say, sayonara.

Thanks for the show guys! LET'S GO CUBS!!! ⚾️✌️💙🐻
I predict that Matt Shaw will be this generations Ryne Sandberg. He will end up being the face of the Cubs.
Cal Ripken, Chipper Jones...no pressure there...let this youngster just get out there and have fun....my goodness.
Thanks for the laughs guys

Still think about Justin Turner
I would be fine if Jed decided that he wants to extend Tucker with his cap space and decides to go in house.
The Cubs could do what the Dodgers did with Shaw at 3b and the entire Cubs' IF being the all star IF.
Sam you're theatrical taste's have taken a massive hit here today. Wicked was quite possibly one of the worst movies I've seen this year.
Terrible take haha, you definitely did not see the newest venom movie
lol Bohner you are (your*** not you’re ) taste? 😂 can’t take your opinion seriously if you can’t even articulate it lol
PCA is home grown, he played like 20 games in the Mets org
The Cubs DO spend money on players . Just not the players the fans cry for ! 83-79 !
put a 1B glove in Suzukis hand to be Busch's RH backup for 20 ish games a Year? 1B is not that dificult a position relative to others , He does not want to be a strict DH , wel there is an option ?
But Sam!! Swift is following his blockers, "on the ground!!"🧐😲
Anything below
Takes at least a year to get used to the big leagues.. wouldn’t be surprised if he puts up a similar numbers to pca
Anything
You can pretty much guarantee the cubs dont hand out any big contacts untill the new cba gets hammered out, that will just be their excuse
So they didn’t trade Hoerner for a 1-2 Ace and didn’t sign any other starters. We blew somewhere around 30 saves in the ninth last year. We need a closer and set up man. We can’t run this exact squad back

Cam Smith was to be off limits, PERIOD! This will be a Joe Carter situation!
Smith was a Cub for less then 6 months.
Bold prediction shaw .245/24HR/68RBI/17SB
Sandy Alcantara (if no Sasaki) and Tanner Scott please
Yep. This would be who I would go after. Send them hoerner and some prospects. Put Shaw at 2nd and find a legit 3rd baseman
It just seems like the evidence regarding the teams' unwillingness to spend just keeps adding up. It's really unfortunate because it does take some of the joy away from whatever positive moves they make to get better.

@randylewis8628 You are probably right on both. If there is a strike and salary caps are an issue, that work stoppage is going to last a long time.

2.10 is not acceptable when you have a rookie out there.
Funny you ask that because Councell was that, when they made the hire!!🧐🤔
First of all nice hat Matt and Merry Christmas to you guys ,have you heard anything about block buster trades or free agents coming to Cubs lol you all have a great day.
How about a trade for Yandy Diaz

Do you think Cassie will be brought up as the fourth outfielder this spring?
No. They will give him and Alàcantara full reps at Iowa. They give Jed options mid season if they need to add or subtract payroll or have injury depth.

That ownership attitude probably costs them Sasaki. Would you choose a team not committed to doing whatever is needed to win? I think not. 😡
Get a closer and another bat
How does a man like that movie?
Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum. A masterpiece with staying power to be sure.
Shaw will have to since Jed is back to hibernating
Moncada is not interesting and there’s nothing you can say to pretend he is

But Sam, the Guardians, Twins, and Brewers are in the same boat, ☝🏾the only difference is, they win, and have won!!🤔🧐😲😭

I would agree to a 2 year slightly higher AAV for Bregman, with Torres signing today with Det his options are dwindling.
Please get over Josh Rojas, he's a zit (barely above replacement level) who couldn't hit his weight in Little League.
Dansby is horrible offensively. The Cubs will miss the Bellinger bat. They will sorely miss Tauchman. How much would Kim cost the Cubs? He could play all middle INF. Why does Tom Ricketts act poor? He is a billionaire
