I so relate to the boy and showering! We have three teenage boys and had to go through and teach them step by step to shower - several times over the years. One thing I recommend is the 3 in 1 product since it's easier for them.
There are no solutions, only trade-offs according to Thomas Sowell. Quitting your boring job to start your own business creates another problem. Getting the best trade-off is all we can hope for.

The greatest attribute of a small business owner is to acknowledge this and urgently seek help in the areas of discrepancy. Mine was in accounts. Sometimes it’s in planning for growth, sometimes it’s in burnout because it’s a long haul.
I guess my parents would just threaten a butt whooping if I didn't get back in the bath / shower and use some soap. 🤣 But I also never liked the feeling of being dirty anyways.

First call terrible advice. Talking about a mortgage like we can all just pay that off and skip off to a cushy 6 figure salary. Then practicing real time denial about being a lousy absent workaholic dad.
Young pre-teen not using soap 🧼 in the shower… I DO think it could be partially related to new step dad … new step siblings, new baby in the family… it used to be just the two of you. I would try to take a walk … play a video game with him … find little things that you two can do together even at home … because I’m sure it’s hard to get out. Maybe he can start helping you cook … great life skill and it’s something babies and little ones can’t participate in yet, so it can be special. I’m sure he DOES miss those times you sat with him and talked to him about EVERYTHING while he showered/ took a bath. He is though now too old for mom to hang out in the bathroom while he bathes. Teach him how, because we can’t know until we are taught, let him pick out his products… let him use body spray if he wants (just not too much). Help him take pride in his appearance and how he is doing it on his own. My son loved our talks when he was little… he once told me he lived bedtime because he knew I would listen to him … he had all these ideas and thoughts and I’d happily engage in listening and telling him how much I loved him etc. Find a new thing for you and him where you can talk … remind him every day how happy you are he’s your son … and what an important part of this new family he is. ❤
