Its literally a game about an invasion of your homeland by people who you can see are killing your people and taking slaves and your question is "where are all the good mongols" I believe sucker punch showed how a person would really feel if their homeland was invaded by having jin not being open to seeing the mongol side of the invasion as no one in his shoes would have .
I said the same thing. Was an odd perspective. I get Imrans comment about how the winners write history but we have many many historical references of the Mongol empire and what they did throughout Asia not just from the Japanese.This was the hottest take out of the whole podcast imo.

If blessing wanted this game to be harder why would he not play on hard mode? It’s so annoying to hear people complain about difficulty when they don’t at least try other difficult settings.

After playing Ghost for accessibility review the game is fantastic. The game has a lot of options for individuals with disabilities mot as much as last of us but still better than most. The thing I loved the most is the loyalty missions for the side characters sometimes their stories are better than the main quest. The HDR is fantastic to and if you have a pro playing it on frame rate mode makes the combat feel more snappy and more responsive. Sorry for the rambling best friends I would highly recommend the game if you like open worlds where you go to an objective and you end up doing 4 or 5 dynamic things in the open world. Sicker Punch nailed it. Thanks to Playstation for providing a copy.

Harry M I’ve never been a fan of Naughty Dogs games. Last of Us just doesn’t work for me. I can see why people like it though.
Imran nailed it. When you platinum a game, you generally start to hate whatever mechanics clearly weren't meant to be tested in the way it takes to platinum the game. Like needing to perfectly time jumps or do perfect stealth. You might not notice when casually playing, but when going for a platinum you see ALL the flaws.

About 16 years before the events of this story, the Monguls slaughtered nearly the entire population of Baghdad. They killed just about everyone around the landing points on Tsushima. They nailed the corpses of women to their boats during this invasion attempt on Japan.
Saying the portrayal of the Monguls as horrible and inhuman is a pretty weak criticism.
Correct, the mongols were absolutely ruthless . And to my knowledge they didn’t slaughter “almost everyone on the beach on Tsushima” they killed EVERYONE. Granted it was only the 80 samurai or so shown in the beginning of the game (a really cool historically accurate portrayal the game gave btw) they didn’t give a single fuck

Just saw that part and generally sighed and rolled my eyes. I don't think he actually understands the history of the Mongols. None of them there were citizens on that island they were all military and had an order.
Won't be surprised if he had issue with the Nazis in Wolfenstein and that there was no "nice Nazi".

Can someone for Christ sake buy Blessing a PS4 Pro and a 4K HDR TV! He’s a reviewing a game where one of its major strengths is its colours an beauty an he’s playing at 1080p... like come on.
You can still appreciate the art in 1080p.
Please dont take offense to this but after how far off I felt your guys' TLOU2 review was from reality I kind of expected you guys to give this game a bad review like what happened to Mad Max after MGSV. I dont believe it was on purpose but I feel that you guys may have let you personal relationships with devs at Naughty Dog force you into seeing the game as a masterpiece even though it has so many narrative issues. I sincerely hope this isnt the case and if so I apologize, in the end I'm glad to hear this game turned out so well as I'm hoping it finally wipe away the bad taste I was left with after finishing TLOU2.

I wouldn't call this game "japanese nationalistic" in a political sense, being made from an American studio. It's just a homage to japanese cinema.
No more than Assassin's Creed Origins is Egyptian Nationalistic.

After I cleared the 1st island and i just find myself overleveled I switched to hard and I honestly enjoyed it more. It made me strategize and plan ahead despite getting all the possible upgrades at that time.

Hey guys. I listen to the show every day. Imran made a comment today about the Mongols being depicted as savages today and how it bothered him. Yes the Japanese don't have the best reputation when it comes to war. But, and this is a big "BUT". For hundreds of years the Mongols showed no mercy to anyone. Just in Genghis Khan's reign alone. They killed fourty million plus people on the low end. Kublai Khan (Genghis Khan's Grandson) was no angel either. My point is yes history is written by the winner. But if we don't show the truths of human history. Then people will never know what it was really like back then. Video game, movie, history books, or any other way we can tell the story. I will be playing the game and thanks for the insights. Cheers and have a great week.
I would be able to see his point from most any other political conflict. But Mongols/Khan were hostile conquerors. It sounds like he lacks a bit of historical background on the topic. It's almost like saying "there's not enough portrayal of good Nazis in ww2 games".
@StretchRhys Hey. Not at all. They were all brutal Khans, Nazis, Stalin etc etc. Was he bothered by Nazis in Call of Duty? Or I'm old enough to remember and have played the Original Doom and Wolfenstein. Those games are mentioned a lot on gaming shows. And I don't recall anyone or Imran being bothered. Go all the way with everything or don't. But don't pick and choose which history To be bothered by. Feelings are feelings. I'm not telling him how to feel. But the Khan's (especially Genghis Khan) killed 10% of the population and changed the carbon footprint of the earth. They were unimaginably brutal and should be depicted in that way.

I’ve been hearing all positive reviews for this game. I can’t wait to play it! This is the perfect time for an open world game. I’m ready to get immersed in feudal Japan.
It sounds so miserable to be a game reviewer based on hearing the amount of hours you dudes put in in such a short period of time. I couldn't do what you guys do, so props for that! I just love taking my time and pacing myself over months in a game lol. Good stuff as always, excited to get my hands on it.
When you put it like that yeah I like taking my time with games these guys have to rush through it to get out a review. The cool thing is that they get to play new games before the come out.
@@Ronin-kk4bt I took a week off from work to play The Last of Us II and I finished the game in 7 days. I thought it was a great experience. Now, an open world game would probably be another story.

That happened when RDR II saw the light of day, but not every game has to be photorealistic to be great. In fact, it would be very boring to always play such games. Personally, I love titles with a more stylistic presentation and Ghost of Tsushima awesomely sits somewhere inbetween, but more towards realistic. For me, it's actually the animation work and physics interactions what set games apart presentation-wise.
Get a decent TV Bless. You are missing out. Sonys flagship games deserve it and you will be missing out on PS5

Yes. “When you go for a plat, you see all the games flaws”. No truer words have been spoken.
The flaws I usually see when going for the Plat...are how grindy and repetitive many of the trophies become. This is especially true for the Shadow of Mordor games. I thought several of the trophies in Spider-Man were tedious as well, especially the "stop every crime in every district" trophy. This is just a trend in open world games I suppose. I didn't get that feeling in Horizon Zero Dawn though.
TheHOOfan1 I didn’t get the Spider-Man plat simply because I couldn’t bring myself to do any more of the repetitive side quests. Ghost of Tsushima gave me that feeling as well. Although they were Great new IPs that can be improved upon in sequels. On the other hand, Breath of The Wild and Horizon should be the new gold standard for how it’s possible for open world games to keep surprising you all the way through. Minus the Korok seeds in BoTW
@@golions13579 Yeah, I am about 2/3 of the way through Tsushima. The game is beautiful, and I mostly like it, but HZD was much better IMO. The combat in Tsushima is just too repetitive. Horizon at least allowed you to set traps, shoot weapons off of enemies, and there were just so many ways to fight enemies.
I think a lot of the story is too heavy handed in Tsushima as well.
Jin getting annoyed at Masako and Ishakawa for their revenge seeking, and Shimura's "we need to do this honorably" are just too over the top. It feels like I am being beat over the head with it.
TheHOOfan1 I agree with both points for the most part. I can see how one could get annoyed with Lord Shimura. That particular story gets better. To say any more would get into spoiler territory so I’ll stop
Another thing is that as I get older, I lose patience for huge open world games and start to prefer more focused, linear experiences. I kind of enjoy not having a million options for where to explore.
@@golions13579 Well I finished and Platinumed the game. I actually knew what was going to happen with Jin and Shimura before finishing. After playing to the end...I will say I did like the story more than I thought I would.
The whole, "we fight with honor", thing was still a little over the top. The whole honor thing mostly only applied to Samurai fighting other Samurai. It wouldn't apply to invaders trying to wipe out the country, or bandits. Also Shoguns employed Ninja to act as spies and assassins, so I doubt Jin would be branded a traitor for what he did.
Also, I thought Jin came off as a hypocrite, because in many of the side quests, he was chastising the other characters for the means they used to seek revenge...yet at the end of the day, he was just as bad trying to get to Khan.
Still I think they wrapped up the story fairly well. Of the Sony first party games on PS4 though, I would put this below God of War, HZD, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy and TLOUII.
I probably would have liked it better if I just main-lined it...but you kind of had to do side quests in order to level up and upgrade your sword. This game could have really benefited from cutting some of the side quest fat. IMO, just the Norio, Ishakawa, Yuna and Masako side quests should have remained, and all the other side quests should have been cut.

The guy doesn't have to be in every Western-produced Asian story or anything, but I wouldn't complain if Hiroyuki Sanada was also in this. Or better yet, plays a lead role in a sequel.
Imran has really come into stride this year, I am very glad that KF brought him along and is keeping him around (hopefully for the duration).

I have zero surprise that everyone on a Kinda Funny reviews show totally loves a Sony PS game, but I'm surprised how divisive the game is turning out to be in other corners. Not for TLOU2 reasons where people might have thought the story didn't work or it was to brutal. I'm hearing some really run of the mill Assassin's Creed rinse and repeat gameplay and really lacking the polish of the usual Sony 1st party stuff. Should be interesting how it pans out.

Like Greg, I'm the kind of person who likes to clear the ? stuff on the map before doing the next story mission. But this kinda soured my experience of the game, because like Bless said, a lot of those side stuff becomes repetitive and boring. So it took the wind out of my sails to experience a slog of side stuff and running across the map to get to the next ? before clearing them out so I could get to the story mission. As a result, I'm not overly fond of this game as everyone else seems to be. The stealth stuff and the button thing + lack of navigation on map to items also wasn't great
1. You being obsessed with every random thing that c tosses your path is a you problem not the games problem
2. There is no lack of navigation , fucking swipe up on your touchpad and the wind shows you EXACTLY WHERE TO GO.

@@mookiestewart3776 First of all, I never criticized the game or said "these are the game's problems." I'm not complaining, I'm just stating my experience. and how, because I did all the side stuff primarily, it soured my experience overall and thus I don't love it like many others do. That's my personal statement, not me complaining about the game or how it's structured.
I'm well aware of how the wind works. I have a platinum for the game. I'm just saying that I would've preferred a waypoint system. Again, not a complaint, just an observation.
Sometimes people can just comment observations or remarks on how they played, their experience of a game, without it being some complaint about "waahh the game sucks" or whatever you thought I was doing

I honestly can't understand how people can play modern games on old 1080p displays.. it's not even about the resolution but the way images are processed, HDR especially, on high performance 4k monitors or even new TVs, the difference is staggering.. especially for a "professional" gamer, i can't understand why blessing does that to himself..
As someone who still plays at 1080P, I haven’t seen something pushing me yet. Even TLoU2 looked phenomenal on my tv. 🤷🏻♂️
I have a 4K TV but I don’t have a PS4 Pro so it won’t show in 4K. Very annoying...
Alot of people don't have extra money these days to spend on limited returns. It's hard to justify getting a ps4 pro and a 4k tv if you have a perfectly capable normal ps4 and a 1080p tv. Next Gen will be a much better investment

This game only having an 83 on Metacritic is absolutely criminal. What an astonishing game. The gameplay is so addicting and satisfying and the graphics are stunning and glorious. Looks like an epic painting at times.
Blessings comments about the difficulty actually makes me way more excited. I’m a noob and don’t enjoy Souls or Sekiro difficultyor having to replay areas over and over. Lenient combat is for me.

@@marcstarvaggi i think he is doing very well- as time goes on he is much more comfortable. He is just not as as aware of his narrative tics... it takes a lot of conscious effort to eliminate those. And he is young. I find myself saying 'basically' far too much when i am talking with certain people in a public discussion. I become aware of it and try to amend. A lot of it is down to experience and also awareness of what you are saying, and having a larger vocabulary to lean on when you want to convey your thoughts. A larger lexicon means when talking about something you don't need to use the same words- Something which takes time and experience; its fuckin hard.
He brings a lot of infectious enthusiasm. Which is great. Keeps those old jaded hacks Greg and Tim on their toes. :P

In response to Blessing saying that they should have made the game harder, I glad they didn't because that would have made it less appealing for gamers like me.
As a primarily Xbox guy, PlayStation has been killing it. There is no competition this generation. I love the Xbox menu format and controller 1000x more but between Spider-Man, god of war, TLOU2, horizon, and now this....god damn ! Hopefully they keep this insane momentum !
When I was deciding between PS4 and XBox two years back, I almost got XBox because of those very reasons, but the exclusives for PS4 just couldn't be ignored. M$ better get their shit together this next gen or they'll be 3rd again.
In regards to Imran's point on nationalism. Sure, the mongols are painted as simple villains in GoT, but we have to remember we are seeing the mongols as an invading force, we are seeing the mongols as they fight, not as they live. We are not seeing the mongolian civilisations of the yuan dynasty or Goreyo. We are seeing whoever was prepared to fight and who would fit on their boats. But, I do think there was enough creative scope to show some more morally complex mongols, especially considering the invading force was also made up of Koreans and Chinese fighters. It would have been nice to have witnessed some characters waiver in their commitment to the great Khan.

Sucker Punch should have gone with Japanese performance capture for facial animation and lip sync, instead of this half step towards the authenticity they have been touting.
It would have been really sick if it had terribly dubbed english audio over Japanese speakers. Like Kung Pow Enter the Fist.
I'm so happy with Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted Remastered, Uncharted 4, Bloodbourn, Infamous Second Son, Dad of Boy, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spiderman, Final Fantasy 7 remake and Ghost of Tsushima I loved. However I hated Walking Simulator, will not touch Abby of Us 2, and The Order 1886. My Meh games are Street Fight V, Killzone Shadow Fall, and my Amine RPGs like SAO: Lost Song and Hollow Realization.

I played the Director's Cut, so I don't know if this is exclusive to this version, but there are armor loadouts. Also the fact that Imran messed up haikus because he went on Twitter during gameplay? Lol what? I never got those criticisms of "I was looking at something else and I missed what the game showed"

5:15 I find it hilarious that the guy on the top left (don't remember names) said that TLOU2 would hurt Ghost of Tsushima when the overwhelming reception has been that this game is leaps and bounds better. Now I haven't played TLOU2 yet and I don't care about a big group whining because it didn't turn out the way they wanted it to, storytelling isn't about getting what you want it's about letting the artist tell their story and then decide what you think about that but unfortunately since a lot about it leaked ahead of time no one got to experience it the way it was meant to be. Thankfully that didn't happen with Ghost but I wonder would people have turned on it if it leaked early too.

I can’t imagine playing this game in English whoever did missed out big time the Japanese voice actors did there thing.

Between watching the Miyazaki films for In Review (granted, they’re not samurai films), and reading a bunch of the manga Dororo, I’m pretty stoked for Ghost of Tsushima this Friday.
I don't know where Blessing heard the game was going to be really hard. SuckerPunch compared it to the difficulty in Horizon Zero Dawn in an interview like a year a go.
I think a lot of people are inferring that it will be as hard as sekiro, by looks alone.
There was an interview a few weeks ago where they said it was going to be a difficult game. They discussed it on KFGD.

I know that the word “Spoiler” can mean many things to different people. As a person who has not played it, their discussion really feels like they spoil things like characters and some story points.(possibly early game, but still a spoiler to someone, like most of us that don’t have access to this game) listen/watch at your own risk.
