Absolutely kudos to Tim on this one. I've always clashed with Tim based on our different realms of games and personalities but he killed this review! His experience and knowledge came out in full force and he really made strong points
@@Dhbdhjdbd I think that comes from experience. I’m quite new to content creation and something I try and do is always add context. Great review guys. I was 11 when I played the first Ratchet and Clank game. I just turned 30 and I can't wait to play this. Crazy that we've grown up with these games.
We are now in June of 2021, quite literally, over the last year, PS Studios has put out 6 absolute bangers: The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, and now Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart... That is absolutely insane!!!
58:50 Blessing is exactly right. One direction I think they could go is a story about the Great War with Ratchet’s father and Azimuth as playable characters. Could be an opportunity for a darker, more personal story in a part of lore that Insomniac hasn’t really touched yet and that could really mess with the formula in some cool ways
I mean if the next game is getting into the after math of the war from the early games they can't screw up the tone cause if they do and make it feel more like rift apart or just more recent titles I don't see it working I don't want them to make the game to dark but just as dark as it got in parts of a crack in time just from Alisters tone when even talking about it
Consider this, when you get a PS5 you will be able to buy all these titles on sale :) Just because you wont have a PS5 at release doesnt mean you cant enjoy the games when they are like 15 bucks :P imagine the value for money
I really like that there are a lot of people in on the review, but the format of these reviews feel like nitpick-a-thons. The opening 10 mins is “the game is great” then it’s 50mins of “I didn’t like this one mechanic” or “this one part of this level isn’t fun”. This makes sense if they didn’t like the game but the format feels very heavily weighted in the negative.
Can't think of many people in this world who make me as happy as the 6 people in this video. Love you all, pre-ordered this and looking forward to jumping in!
I always see Ratchet and Clank as the Mario of PlayStation and that it doesn't always need the spectacle of other games like GoW and Uncharted. The intent is fun factor and I really appreciate that.
Man, i just got my PS5 an hour ago,Rift Apart seems incredible with all its praises, have to wait few weeks can't toss in $70 right now. *Insert Squidward looking from behind the bars meme*.
Would you be able to buy it right away if it was $60? I'm in the same boat. I can afford $60, but not $70. Some of us are poor and these price increases are complete bullshit.
@@Slurpy2k8 i mean here the PS5 almost costs $625 soo i need to wait a bit, I can afford the game right now but don't want to spend like $700 on gaming in just a month.
It’s so refreshing compared to preferred platform channels. This is actually a channel for gamers. PS I Love you, and xcast, and the collabs! All great!
I am basing my decision to buy or wait for a sale on the reviews. Thanks for a really well-balanced video, guys. I feel this gave me the variety of perspectives, hype and tempering of expectations I needed. I now know I will platinum this game... I'm just not comfortable with new game prices. Note - It wasn't a $10 price increase in Australia. The cheap, in-store option has gone from $79AUD to $109AUD - or $125 in the PS Store. Our price increase between generations was $30 US dollars.
This was my first ever Ratchet and Clank game and like Paris said, this franchise has created a fan in me and my wife. Loved every minute I had with this game and I'm so glad this was the first game I played with my ps5. Great job to Insomniac and I can't wait for the next Ratchet and Clank game!
Sounds fantastic and can't wait to play! I obviously haven't begun the game yet but hearing the "on rails" or "cinematic" segments are similar to the 2016 reboot and are being mentioned as a weak point makes me want to chime in with a couple thoughts. The first being I think those segments are intended to be a time in the game where the player can just sit back and take in the world insomniac has built. I got that feeling while playing the reboot, it always seemed to me those were specifically there to be fairly hands off moments to merely focus on the spectacle surrounding the player. The second thought which Paris mentioned in conversation was this game is intended for all ages of players and is heavily marketed towards families. There could be 4-5 year olds picking up a controller to play this game as well as 15 year olds, 30 year olds, hell even 80 year olds. The gameplay has to be somewhat accessible and also guide the player in the right direction. Maybe those being younger individuals or even others who may not have the "oh, this is what I'm supposed to do because that's just how video games work" experiences yet. If it's geared for all ages it needs to have some of the hand holding moments by necessity to keep everyone engaged and progressing through the story/objectives.
All I gotta say is fidelity mode is better than performance imo. The added particle effects and lighting outweigh the boost in frame rate, and I never noticed it dip below 30 frames once in fidelity. Definitely try both to judge it yourself, but it looks insane in fidelity mode.
Blessing and Greg seemed less enthused about this game compared to Parris and Andy but that’s why having discussions is always fun; to share differences in opinion.
I really wish I had a PS5 just for this game, I’m still a new player to Ratchet & Clank but I’ve always loved Insomniac, I adore the 2016 game and I actually really enjoyed the movie too so I have been so hyped to play Rift Apart, eventually I’ll get one (maybe a PS5 Pro at that time lol) and I’m sure I’ll have an incredible time with this new game in the series :) Ps. Awesome discussion. 😎 But Tim...youre really missing out on the graphical power of the PS5 if youre playing in Performance mode--its more than just the resolution that gets dumbed down. Based on Andy's comment, is there still confusion about 3D audio on PS5? Plug ANY wired headphones into the Dual Sense and you get 3D audio.
