there is usually a symbol on the product that says how long it lasts after opening. makeup usually lasts a lot longer than skincare

Eyeshadows can be good for decades hahahha. If it looks off in the pan or smells then you know its gone.

Also, a good way to declutter makeup is selling on Mercari, especially limited edition palettes-- even if the makeup has gone bad, some people collect makeup as a hobby

for eyeshadow and other powders, you can usually tell when the shadows don’t perform the same and/or smell and/or look off. you can extend the life by keeping in dry areas like your closet :)
