Narrator: If you've ever felt out of control of your vehicle driving in wet conditions or through a large puddle chances are you've experienced hydroplaning.
Hydroplaning is when water separates your tires from the ground underneath, causing you to lose traction with the road. Your vehicle speed, tire tread depth, and water depth can all act as contributing factors. As the speed of your tires increases in water, traction decreases. Worn tire tread decreases traction altogether and increases the likelihood of hydroplaning. And the deeper the water, the more quickly hydroplaning may arise.
No matter how safe of a driver you may be, hydroplaning can still occur. Here are some do's and don'ts for managing these moments safely.
Do remain calm and slow down. You'll likely be tempted to slam on your brakes. Instead, you should immediately ease off the gas pedal.
Do use light pumping actions if you need to brake. If you car has anti-lock brakes, you may brake normally.
Do take a moment to calm down when you've regained control of your car. Pull your car into a safe location, and take a few deep breaths before continuing your trip.
Don't try to correct your car by turning your steering wheel in the opposite direction you are sliding. Instead, gently turn your wheel toward the direction you are sliding.
Don't neglect your tire maintenance. Replace worn tires, and keep then properly inflated.
Don't use cruise control while driving in raining conditions or on wet roads.
Be mindful of the possibility that hydroplaning may occur in wet conditions, and keep these tips in your back pocket.

There're 2 reasons why you don't wanna steer in the opposite direction that you're going:
1. It's easier to regain control when you steer in the same direction.
2. If your wheels are in the opposite direction, the moment they'll regain traction, you're gonna "fly off" in said direction, increasing the risks of accidents.
Bonus science fact: Hydroplaning is the reason ice is slippery. If the ice was completely dry, you could walk on it normally.

You coulnd't be more wrong... first off.. what do you even mean by " you don't wanna steer in the opposite direction that you're going," how do you know what direction you are going? One end of the car is going one way, one is going another... so the "opposite" of which of those???? Moreover... the advise is wrong... you DO want to steer in the opposite direction because YOU HAVE TO. Imagine you are driving beside a semi and you start hydroplaning... are you REALLY doing to sheer yourself MORE into the direction of the semi if the front end starts turning towards it?????? NO!!!! It's as simple as this... you have to turn the wheel to put you straight again... throwing out, "counter the movement... don't counter the movement... steer in the same direction..." is all way to confusing for someone to wrap their head around in a situation where you have to react instantly.

Happened to me when driving onto a roundabout right after my friend. We both went in too fast in bad rain, he regained control quickly, but by the time i instinctivel let off the brake, u had the wheel set to countersteer, i regained control and nearly spun out. But luckily i was able to drive off by the exit

this never happened to me before i didn't even know it was a thing. but it's prob cuz i live in nevada where it only rains like once every 2 months
I just lost control in the rain at 140km/h in my e36, it was after I drove into a bump on the road, the car sent me to the right i kept my throttle as it was (about 3/4) and lightly steered the car to the left, immediately regained control, in those split seconds i was already countersteering to the right cause i expected the car to be thrown from side to side but surprisingly it didn't happen, definitely a scary experience but now I know that I shouldn't drive that fast in bad conditions where I don't know the roads cause they're fucking trash.
If you hydroplane and the front of the vehicle starts to go to the right while the rear starts to go left your should turn to the left not right

Although it may seem contradictory, turning into the direction you're sliding can help your tires realign with your vehicle's direction, and help you regain steering control.

This happened to me just then in the rain 😭 I turned back towards the road to get back on track because if I didn’t I would’ve went into the ditch
It was only my back tire that hydroplaned

You should steer opposite the direction you are sliding, look diagnoally down the road, pump the gas and keep the revs at around 4-5k RPM to control the angle you are sliding.
Yeah, and when you regain traction you'll be ejected to that opposite side

Why confuse people telling them not to brake, then to brake? Every car sold since 2012 has ABS, just tell them to bury the brake pedal and focus on steering.

No. The video is correct. If you dont have abs you feather the brakes.
Because there are words in between 🤦♂️. DO ease off the gas pedal and DO pump the brakes. Slamming the brakes and pumping the brakes will probably give 2 very drastically different results.
