Dear Hercules Family I started watching this channels December of 2017. I was reminiscing about my grandmother always giving us kids ribbon candy as our Christmas treat. So I typed in making ribbon candy and you guys popped up, down in the basement. I can't tell you how much your videos have help me through some of my life's harderest time. Thank you and I hope knowing your viewers really appreciate you all gives you a lift when you all need one.
I love love love the crisp clear colors of the un-pulled ribbon candy. It's especially beautiful for the summer. You guys are awesome and Julia is an amazing asset to Hercules Candy, we LOVE her!
I love how the unpulled looks with the filling.. and the idea of packaging both pulled and unpulled ribbons in same batch is going to look lovely. Great idea! Now.. this got me wondering if dark chocolate would work with the orange as well as the white chocolate does.. I love the combo of dark chocolate and orange...
I love how you all are open to suggestions from your employees. Lots of times family businesses just say we have been doing it this way for ever and don't change. It was great Steve was open to Coopers suggestion.
So...wonder if you make a Root Beer Candy with the White Chocolate...if it would be like a Root Beer Cream Soda? Or perhaps a Peaches & Cream would be good too.❤
Depending on what you need, Canva might work for you. You can import label templates into it, is reasonably priced, and has a bajillion graphics you can use.
I'm a homebrewer, so this episode caught my interest since I deal with different acids and sugars when making meads, wines, and beers. The tip Steve gave about cream of tartar (aka tartaric acid) is good because the acid is making some of the sugar into invert sugar (similar to the corn syrup he's using). Since the tartaric acid comes from grapes, it gives a rounded flavor to the final product. Substituting some of the regular sugar with lactose sugar would make the candy taste more like it has cream in it. This got me to thinking, have you considered doing this with peach flavoring. Instead of citric acid, you'd definitely want to use malic acid since that is the acid in peaches, apples, and most berries. If you make it, that'd be awesome!
It is so appropriate that your apron has Mr Rogers on it, Coop 💕 because he was a kind and beautiful man, much like you are! I’m so grateful Hercules popped up on my youtube feed all those years ago, I’ve watched ever since. Love you all ❤️
I would LOVE to see more ribbon candy with clear!! It’s gorgeous!! 🧡. Also regarding the labels, have you tried Canva? My best friend uses it for her business (website and journal design) I’ve heard it’s very easy and doesn’t require a super expensive subscription to the Adobe suite. However, I recently graduated medical school and have lots of time on my hands for the next few weeks and wouldn’t mind designing some label templates for you guys! I’ve got Adobe photoshop, Fresco, and Illustrator and love to draw!!
I am so happy that you @Hercules Candy is now shipping your ribbon candy. I will for sure order the Orange Dream ASAP. I don't care if it comes broken just because I know it will taste awesome!
I've been watching your channel for a couple of years now, but my timing and luck really stinks!! We lived in the Hudson Valley, NY and my daughter graduated from Binghamton...right before I started watching! We took many a trip with her to and from school before we retired to FL. So, I'll just keep watching and will have to order from FL, definitely cold pack! ❤
That would look amazing. Also, what if you stuck two different colored batches together sideways and then made the ribbons without mixing the colours? Would you end up with a cool gradient in every ribbon? I'm thinking white and orange or red and blue. It's so cool that you guys can try things out
I've been using a very old version of Broderbund's Print Shop for years and years. Then Windows stopped supporting XP and 10 didn't support my old Print Shop. After years of frustration trying to use other versions of Print Shop, my husband took pity on me and put a version of Linux wine on my computer to emulate XP and I was able to use my trusty PS again. Love the idea of orange Creamsicle flavored ribbon candy! How about chocolate filled orange, or cherry, or raspberry ribbon candy?
Just ordered this with a coffee cup and some chocolate, been watching since you guys were making candy in the basement in your old location. I use to study and watch you guys make candy. That was almost 6 years ago. Thank you for all the years of heartwarming content. Cant wait for the camping cup!
I bought two of their coffee mugs for my husband and me, we use them when we watch the show. great quality, only wish they were a little bigger. also got my husband a Hoodie he loves it. and of course I bought him candy. 😊
I love watching your videos, and love this idea of unpulled. An idea if it hasn't already been thought of or suggested it try it with carmel as the filling and green apple as the flavor? Would make a nice fall candy.
Loved seeing the label making process too! Maybe to speed up the process, is it possible to print to PDF from print shop…then send the PDF to the printer?
I watch every video, and I started during the early basement days. This is the prettiest candy I have ever seen! 🧡 I love orange candy, so its sad that you dont ship to Sweden. But I might try to make some orange candy myself, but without the filling. Thank you for the upload! ❤ From a small Swedish candymaker! 🍬🍫
Terry, I loved print shop too! When I could no longer use it because of the disks, I switched to Publisher. It can do more than I need, but you have to get graphics online.
When I was growing up in the early seventies, my grandparents were friends with a couple who were professors and taught at Princeton. They spent their summers here in Colorado. They brought my grandmother a couple boxes of candy from a shop in Princeton that were little liquid filled hard balls. They were like about 5mm across and filled with a flavored liquid. There was one box of assorted fruit flavors, and a box of mint flavored. The mint were my favorites.
I have been following since Jan 2017. Back then there wasn't a whole lot of chocolate/candy making content. It's hard to believe it has been over 6 years!!! But I have enjoyed the journey every step of the way. Thank you for sharing!!

Have you tried freezing a ladle before scooping up the syrup? it's resisting sticking to your hands because the cold from the water is sapping the heat out of the syrup, thus changing its viscosity and giving you a brief period where it will not stick... once the body heat from your hand overcomes the cold of the water, the heat transfer reverses and the syrup becomes sticky again... if you have a ladle that's frozen it should, in theory, prevent the syrup from sticking to it until it reaches the same temperature as the syrup.
It's too bad Print Shop died. I loved it for my small businesses. I wish somebody would do it again. I'm thinking maybe Crayola did something like it, but maybe that blew away with the wind too.
Your print shop program reminds me of the software for the Silhouette cutting machine. I've used it to do similar things besides cutting. I totally understand the frustration with buggy print shop. I gave up on it years ago.
Love all of your videos! They help me chill out at night, and your dynamic is really nice. I do have a question though. What kind of gloves do ya'll use when working with the candy? I wanna try making some stuff at home. Thank you for the videos! Be safe!
Good Evening from Cape Town South Africa this is so Awesome to watch and be apart of. Thank you guys and Stay Awesome. Please open a store here in Capetown 🎉😅
Watching your video here is a helpful tip for Terri. I always use Microsoft Publisher to do stuff like the labels she was working. Not sure if she uses that program or not. Hope this helps.
You all have been my dose of healthy workplace vibes over the last year as my workplace has gotten worse and worse after my previous manager left. I am happy to share that today I found out I got a new job! It will be a big step forward in my career (I will be managing a business function and even a direct report before age 25!), but best of all this org has all the signs of a healthy work environment! Thank you for being my source of hope that something better was out there! ❤
To speed up that printer, try printing from your sluggish software to a PDF file. Then print from that using a pdf reader (there are many). Keep up the beautiful candy making.
Yo - you should really look into Canva for creating your labels. Honestly, it is way more intuitive than what you’re using, and much more consistent in images, as well… modern 😜
Wish they would put #1 on list I started watching this while they were in basement of old house! Wonder what they did with marble table when they replaced it with stainless steel cooler one ? I believe Craig bought old house? We have never seen where Steve and family lives now , just nosy !!
For the ribbon candy puller: Would it be helpful to run the ribbon over a foot pedal cutter instead of picking up the scissors? Looks like a neat style of candy. Orange Julia! Scott, I also use Comic Sans and I do it to drive my 34yr old graphics son! It's an older person's font! I'm 67...
