You should try Gravitar Recharged....and pretty much all of the Recharged lineup including: Missile Command Recharged, Asteroids Recharged, Centipede Recharged, Caverns of Mars Recharged, Breakout Recharged and Black Widow Recharged...as well as the reimagining of Akka Arrh...All are on sale right now and highly recommended especially since you seemed to really dig the taste of those remade originals on the 50th Anniversary Collection.
Awesome compilation, but they ate missing some from the previous Atari compilations like Night Driver, Return To Haunted House, Tempest 2600 and more! Hopefully they will be added in updates or DLC!
Yeah I think for the price it's worth it and the the remakes are really good as well as the arcade ports. But yeah, hopefully they add more. Thanks for watching!
@@onlysublime yeah, outside of Tempest 2000, the Jaguar inclusions basically scream out "wow this system sucked!" They're like terrible tech demos of badly designed hardware. The collection is still amazing though, and they did what they could with the licensing... though I can't help but feel like they could have dropped some extra cash to license some of the really classic games that are missing It would be really cool if they put it out as DLC. Like Pitfall. or ET, just for the historical factor. Or the awful 2600 port of Pac Man. Now that the reviews for this collection have been so positive, I think it's reasonable that these 3rd party companies would want in.
@@siren_section games that involve multiple parties would be especially hard to get licensing approval like star wars games or ET. Games that used copyrighted music (though less of an issue back in the 2600 days) also a problem. If the company went out of business, you have to find the people who owned the company. It doesn't become free and clear when a company dies.
There are likely no Activision or other 3rd party games because they wanted to emphasize that it's *Atari's* 50th anniversary, so it's all Atari, all the time
@@KaptainKlassic At least one game wasn't programmed by Atari, but it was done by a 3rd party and the Atari paid them to do it. I know the people who worked on the game, and he told me the cheat code a week after it was released. I still remember when I went to Babbages to buy the game, they had sold out of it, but instead of the normal 50 copies of the game, they had only gotten 3 to sell. I had to go to a different store to buy one.
Cool video, just been watching for tips to unlock the games, I've got one for you too though. With the Tempest section on Vctr- Sctr, once the ememies have reached the top of the 'well' where your gun is, you can only safely pass by them or shoot them whilst they're 'flipping' between segments, so your best option is to just stay in one place and keep firing so they are killed as they try to flip onto the segment you're on. 'Cat Warlords' at the end looked awesome, but probably really tricky to play 😂😂😂😂
The reimagined games & interviews makes this worth getting. As for "Basic Math", never played it. But "Donkey Kong Jr. Math" for the NES actually was fun if you were playing against a friend that had the same math skills as you. Too bad it's not included in the NES collection on the Switch. Hopefully the "Atari 50 ann. collection" will inspire SEGA to put out something similar but focus more on their coin-op arcade games. In the meantime "Arcade Paradise" is available for some extra nostalgia feels.
Thanks for the recommendation on Arcade Paradise I still need to check that one out. I agree completely that this collection is worth getting just for the reimagined games. Also, it seems as though Basic Math you just set up the numbers and then solve it. It seems more like math practice than a game.
Hey no shame in that. Space Invaders is awesome. I've always wondered what it was like to play a lot of these arcade and 2600 games when they first came out.
@@donaldsalkovick396 I played a lot of these at a young age myself and loved them back then too, but I didn't get to experience them when they first came out obviously lol
Looks like you got all the old timers out of the woodwork! I’m going to pass for now because we all know this game will be $20 or less in January, nearly every switch game gets a massive sale eventually and since I’ve played most of these already I might as well wait.
Good point, new video coming soon with something that might be worth it to you. Though this is worth getting eventually for the reimagined games. Seems like the only Switch games that don't really drop in price are the official Nintendo games. Most Mario games, Zelda, etc. ones that even came out back around when the Switch launched are still like $50
That's pretty cool, you grew up with all the original games. It's obviously not something anyone today is necessarily missing out on considering these games are still available today, but to grow up and play them as they first came out is a whole different experience I can't imagine is like. But anyway, thank you for watching!
I was 17 when Atari was born. (so there are a few of us of old farts viewing your content - I (literally) don't have time to try to unlock the confidential games without a walk through) An excellent collection from whoever is calling themselves Atari these day.
Thank you for doing this, now that I see the unlockable games I won’t have to worry about it 😂 I do own a VCS and really like it. Just wish that Atari would get fully behind it and offer more support for it.
Yeah that was kind of my intention too. I wanted to see what the 5 games were. I knew a few prior to filming but yeah, overall it was worth it but more for just the sake of making the video, not the actual games. I noticed Atari Mania was actually released on the VCS though correct?
Yes Atari Mania is on there for sure, as are a lot of other fun games, most of which are available for other systems. I have all the “Recharged” series of games on my VCS as they are fun to play with the classic controller that comes with the all-in VCS bundle, but also wanted to make my system be as Atari-exclusive as possible. There are a ton of reviews out there for the VCS, most are pretty unkind, mainly due to the hefty price but content as well. It’s a fun retro gaming device with PC capability, and comes with the Atari Vault which has 100 of the classic games which come with the Flashback Classics for Switch (complete with same music). Here again the classic controller is fun to use, but overall I think you got to love Atari to fully enjoy it.
@@bumpnscore yeah I totally get it. I feel like I'd do the same thing and buy exclusive titles only. One thing I didn't understand about it was connecting it to your PC ad stuff. Just seemed like a confusing system as far as what it's going for.
It doesn’t hook up to a PC, rather there’s a “PC mode” built in, so you can connect a bootable USB drive (3.1) with OS of your choosing, which would make the VCS become a PC, presumably for emulators, or game developing, etc. This device is seemingly Atari’s way of catering to the gaming and computing crowds in one place, as their history has always been dabbling in both. I really have no use for this to be a PC so I just enjoy the retro gaming, Antstream arcade, downloadable games as well as it plays Netflix and other streaming services. I figure at the very least, this system gets Atari on par with other game consoles by being their first to be Wi-Fi capable 😂. It does do a good job though and is fun to play. If you can get one for $199 that’s more reasonable.
@@bumpnscore yeah I think the price is a little too steep right now for what it is. Though those controllers look incredibly convincing. Maybe someday I'll get one, I've also got my eyes on a Steam Deck and that one is definitely pricey!
YESSSSS! someone that knows how awesome warlords is. Unfortunately warlords is meant to be played co-op so people these days will not get to experience warlords the way it's meant to be experienced.
Hey thank you fellow Warlords fan! Yeah I first played it on the Atari Anniversary Edition for the original Playstation back when I was a little kid. Loved it then and still love it to this day. Unfortunately I have yet to play it on actual Warlords machine though.
@@KaptainKlassic yeah it's meant to be played with a paddle controller.you would be so shocked how accurate the control is with the paddle. My first time was a hand me down from my dad on the 2600
Warlords with paddles is really fun when played with friends. Best feeling in the world when your buddy is late to defend an attack and the ball ends up rebounding multiple times against the back of his shield and back into his own castle, at a high rate of speed, sometimes killing his own warlord. Oh the insults that flew back in Christmas of 1982.
I'm older than atari - this is an okay collection imo. I still prefer the flashback collection ... You could put some of the games into tate mode which i/wax a big plus for me.
I have the Tempest music CD that they sold a long time ago. I had to dig it out of my CD collection, just to play it again. Also one of the main reasons I got the collection, now I wonder if they have the Cheats included in Tempest 2K, I loved the level skip.
Another great Atari compilation came out for the first original x box and PlayStation 2, i am trying to remember the exact name but its killer, no jaguar games but a big collection if not all of the Atari arcade games plus videos' of history ect..much like this new Atari 50 collection. Of course all the Atari home systems tho only the Atari but also activision i believe, lol may be i am thinking of the Intelevision collection, there is 3 midway collections and many other companies have released their own collections. From this video i have so far unlocked 3 of the confidential puzzels and currently(as i speak) i am trying to unlock the game from playing vectorésector, the tank one i have almost mastered but dang its picky about making the circle with the rocket.
Are you thinking of the Atari Anthology collection? Also, glad the video has helped! Yeah, vectorsector is definitely the most challenging one to unlock. The combat/tanks one is the most annoying. Just keep trying to get the circle as perfect as you can.
Games like basic math were created so parents could buy their kids something educational and feel better about owning video games. Remember video games were new at this point and there was a lot of pushback by parents saying they were bad for your kids. Games like Basic Math were made to combat that.

Thank you glad it helped. Yeah the quadra tank one is really weird and hard to get. They should have made it easier it has to be very precise. Hope you get the vectr sectr one.
So I guess you didn't make your homework really well young blood... if you remember or not, in Super Breakout when your ball hits a celling ball speeds up and your pad shrinks.
I really wish they would do some kind of remake/ reimagined version of Berserk, but unfortunately it’s not owned by Atari and Stern Electronics would have to agree to a remake.
I'm a simple man. When a guy wearing an Atari hat starts talking in front of a wall that reads "Pac-Man" and "Tetris", I listen. I'm the same age as the Atari 2600 and I had it when it was popular, and it's very intriguing to hear the opinions of people who were born after that era. You're good at these games too! You say you wish Kaboom were in the collection. Well, Kaboom is a clone of an early Atari arcade game called Avalanche, and that game is included in the previous Atari Flashback Collection on the Nintendo Switch. (Most if not all good Activision games in that era were shameless clones of earlier games, so that company is extremely overrated.) That leads me to why I'm disappointed with both collections. Forget about Activision - these compilations lack many essential Atari-made games! Atari 50 includes the awesome Food Fight and Dark Chambers, but omits certain games which were on the Atari Flashback Collection, namely the phenomenally popular arcade game Atari Football (the first good sports video game), the aforementioned historically essential Avalanche, and the Atari 5200 game Realsports Baseball, which is the first good baseball video game and was also included on Atari Flashback Collection. And both collections are missing excellent Atari-made arcade games such as Gauntlet and Gauntlet II, Paperboy, Marble Madness, Road Blasters, Vindicators and Xybots. Why are these big companies making us buy two or even three compilations (see the super-shameless Namco) in order to get just a fraction of their great old games? When I bought a CD collection of the Beatles greatest hits, it contained all their best songs. So why are Namco, Atari, and SNK so incredibly cheap? SNK put out two Neo Geo Pocket collections and they cumulatively only contain about ten of the best games for that console, which only had maybe twenty good games on it to begin with. SNK could have made one collection with all the good Neo Geo Pocket games, and it would have been a must-buy and a huge commercial success. Instead, they had to be stingy and I doubt the two mediocre collections are selling well.
First, thank you for watching and the detailed comment! I agree, it is a shame that a lot of these collections don't have a lot of variety. Atari 50 had the perfect oppurtunity to add games here that were not on the previous Atari Flashback Collection. Also, I admit I did not realize Kaboom was a clone of Avalanche! Though after playing the Atari Flashback Collection I can see it. My next video is actually sort of a continuation of this one and I talk about Atari Flashback Classics. I think you'll enjoy it.
Unfortunately, Atari owns none of those. They're Activision, Namco, and Konami/Parker Bros properties, respectively. Tutankham is probably the least likely to turn up on a compilation because it's a double-license, i.e. developed by Parker Bros based on a Konami arcade game. Still got my 2600 Tutankham cartridge :) That game gets a lot of flak, and it's not much like the arcade game it's supposed to be representing, but I enjoyed it a lot back in the day and have probably played it more than the arcade original over the years.
Good video, tried for an hour on the Quadratank one and still couldn't get it to work. Made quadruple sure the settings were correct too. Wonder if it matters what system you're using?
Hmm that's weird. It took me a few tries.. I edited out a few of the attempts because I wasn't really talking and I don't like a lot of silence during my videos so a lot gets cut out but it only took me about 5 minutes. Maybe it could be due to the console. Are you at least hearing the sound as the rockets are going around the Atari logo?
@@KaptainKlassic yes, it's making the sound, and I use the L1 and R2 buttons with the Right analog stick to guide the missiles while having the range maxed out. Using a PS5
@@cryptocoffee13 I'm not sure. I've only played on Nintendo Switch. Try getting your rocket to carry the range item. I don't know if that matters but that's what I did when it worked for me.

I don't really think Warlords is trash, I played the arcade version first and loved it so when I got around to trying the 2600 version, it just didn't appeal as much to me. But I totally get it. Also, 27 is still a child?
so ya i unlocked 3 confidential challenges, the vectr sectr is pretty hard but i can now do the landing part of the challenge and once beat the 3rd part of the challenge before failing, still at it as we speak and as for the tank one i can do perfect circles and i hear a sound like a tin can crunching but still cant get success and my circles(no offense) are better and more exact but still they wont give me the victory and i am doing the circles almost perfectly right on the logo yet (again no offense) your circle was sloppy and barely connected, what am i doing wrong, my God this games are real ball breakers. Thanks a lot as there is no way in hell i was going to figure these out. you know what i am feeling it now, lol going to try that circle again.

Sweet I'll check those out. Thanks for letting me know.
Yeah licensing issues are why none of the systems have the best games.like there were so many good jag games not here.same for lynx, 800, 2600, etc.
@@onlysublime yeah, outside of Tempest 2000, the Jaguar inclusions basically scream out "wow this system sucked!" They're like terrible tech demos of badly designed hardware. The collection is still amazing though, and they did what they could with the licensing... though I can't help but feel like they could have dropped some extra cash to license some of the really classic games that are missing
It would be really cool if they put it out as DLC.
@@siren_section yeah
Basic Math. "Why that game?". "Why is this even a video game?". Hahaha!
There are likely no Activision or other 3rd party games because they wanted to emphasize that it's *Atari's* 50th anniversary, so it's all Atari, all the time
That makes sense. It's Atari time! #Atari50

Well I'm 54 lol. Anyway, cool collection and I been waiting to here this info.
Hey not judging! Lol glad you enjoyed!
17:54 LMAO
I'm 2 years older than Atari. I remember getting a 2600 in 1976 played space invaders non stop
Hey no shame in that. Space Invaders is awesome. I've always wondered what it was like to play a lot of these arcade and 2600 games when they first came out.
@@KaptainKlassic it was awesome at that age
Most Mario games, Zelda, etc. ones that even came out back around when the Switch launched are still like $50
I know! That’s because they never stop selling. They do sometimes dip in the 40s but yeah. You’ll never see Odyssey for 9.99!
Yeah, I was shocked even spinoff Mario games like Aces Tennis or whatever is still like a 50 dollar game.
Oh also subbed! I'm all about the classics and still play many today on original hardware.
Awesome thank you very much! Yeah, I grew up with all the old school stuff so my channel is all about retro games.
I wish Activision did their own Atari 2600 compilation pack
Funny you mention that, my next video is actually an Activision Atari 2600 compilation pack. But it's not for the Switch though.

I was 17 when Atari was born. (so there are a few of us of old farts viewing your content - I (literally) don't have time to try to unlock the confidential games without a walk through)
An excellent collection from whoever is calling themselves Atari these day.
Well regardless of your age, I'm happy to have ya! Hopefully this was helpful enough for you. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving.
@@KaptainKlassic Back at ya on the Thanksgiving.
My first time was a hand me down from my dad on the 2600
@@onlysublime my favorite version of Warlords is actually on a plug n play Atari console. It's the Arcade version with the Atari paddle controller.

Love this collection, sad it didn't include desert falcon or Galaxians
I love the Namco/Bandai games. Those are some of my all time favorite. Hince the Pac-Man machine I have.
@@KaptainKlassic there needs to be a Bamco DLC pack... I really hope they're in talks to do that.
Games like basic math were created so parents could buy their kids something educational and feel better about owning video games. can you use motion control on the paddle games ?
Good question. I don't believe so, at least I didn't see an option for it.. 🤔
I just turned 50 last week.

AVP would have been a great unlocked game....
never played the jaguar version so yeah that would have been cool to have for sure.
Great video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Watching video hoping the unlockable ones include. Pitfall, pac man and tutankham.
My question is does Tempest 2K have a cheat mode like the Jaguar and other versions.
Awesome video
Thanks, means a lot! I appreciate you watching!
Activision games would have been nice...being that they made the best 2600 games
I like this good price and wonder if any cheat codes?
Good question I'm not sure if there's cheat codes. Something to look into for sure.
Using a PS5
