I love this because I always see jumps and leaps in dance routines and competition but never know what they’re called so I cannot learn them. Thank you!
For beginner dancers, dont let this video intimidate you. I've been a dancer since I've been six years old. My high school friends didn't know I was in Dance Classes. My Mom used to say,. '"don't talk about what your achieving, just go and do it"". When I grew up, that same humble mindset got me work. 🩰🤍
When you're in charge of dance for Shrek Jr and your only 12 and have absolutely no dance experience and so you're sitting watching jumps to do in a dance.
Great selection ! Concise, loving and fun filled demonstration. Favourited ! Oh....... the 'really cool barrel roll' is a Tornado Kick, it's used in TeaKwonDo and Capoeira.
Hey! It's all science! Include plyometrics training in your fitness routine. Also include muscle activation exercises before you train! It really makes an instant difference. Look up gymnastic jumps conditioning videos. There are so many great gymnastics conditioning drills/exercise videos that more dance teachers should incorporate in class. Dance like an artist but train like an athlete. Also look into if you have any incorrect body patterns, (example: under-active glutes, knock-knees, excessive back flexibility, etc) and find corrective exercises, so your body is working as functionally as possible. If you have any questions about specific jumps lmk!
always remember that there are lots of names for things :) like where i live the center leap is almost always called a side leap and calypsos are almost always called stag leaps (single and double)
Theres no "cheer jumps" i think you were referring to acro leaps, but those are leaps in dance to. Like for the tuck jump thats an acro leap and its used in cheer and in dance
@@serenafossi i was referring to jumps like toe touch and pike jump. Those r cheer jumps. i only mentioned it so that it wouldn't confuse the dancers because those r not dance jumps. I am in both cheer and dance so i know the difference.
Hello @dancedeja 😊you had a video on your channel where you show 40 exercises to improve your jumps. Now its gone? 😢 is there a chance you can reupload the video or may send me. Your video was so good. ❤️ greetings maria
What is a lollipop leap can you answer me my pe teacher told me to do it but i cant find any pictures or videos that say or demonstrate what a LOLLIPOP LEAP is
Hmmm, I have definitely heard this term before, but it isn't as common in my studios. But most likely 0:20 ring jump/firebird. Could also be 0:35 calypso back leg bent. Good luck! Let me know when you have the answer!
Okay, I used to have the same problem with my barrel. One of my main problems was i was thinking of going to the side and then up instead of pushing up. You really wanna tilt your back dont think of the height just think about doing it right. Also instead making your knees be one in front and one in the back make them both in the back like theyd be in a c jump.
Its funny how different studios have different names for the same jumps. Or variations of the same names 🤣 For example we say side-jete instead of center leap... and "switch splits" instead of switch leap. What you call "toe touch" we call them "russians". Oh instead of ring jumps we say calypsos... And then the turning calypsos ("calypso en tournant") we say either with front attitude, back attitude, double attitude (instead of knee bent or double knee bent). Btw what u called "These Cool Jumps" are called "Grand Jetés en Tournant" (at lease thats we were taught) 😉 Great video!! 👍 I loved the hitch kick! Havent seen or done in a long time, totally underateed jump.
I’ve done all of these before and to be honest I didn’t know half of them qualified as jumps like the chasse we usually just use the slide variation of chasse (we call the one shown a gallop variation) for preps so I forgot those existed/counted 😂
Omg I’m rereading this comment and it sounds like I’m being mean I’m so sorry!! Also thanks for clearing that up it makes so much more sense now thank you!
A detail.....a jump is pushing off with one foot and landing on the same foot or pushing off of two and landing on two, when you change legs, it’s called a leap not a jump. 👍🏼
Okay. Simply wow! I've been dancing 9 years of modern and 8 of lyrical jazz and I still cannot do thease! It's very annoying to see everyone just jumping perfect barrels while I am just me. Thanks to my genes (yay thanks parents!) I have always had trouble with moves that need power or flexibility - jumps. I've been literally trying to do a barrel jump for 3 years straight but I simply cannot jump that high or let my neck and hands go free. Any tips or moves to help me to barrel jumps, step throws, floorwork jumps, etc? But really, absolutely amazing! ♡
Hello! Thank you for your positive feedback and thoughtful comment. Congratulations on your many years of dancing! I will post a video this Saturday that will hopefully be helpful with your quest! If you are comfortable sharing more information about any difficulties you may encounter performing the skills you listed - that will help me tailor the video for efficiency.

It's really all in your hands the more you can put all the weight into your hands when swinging the rest of your body will just follow... imagine swinging a rope with a little weight at the end... matter fact hold something with a little bit of weight to it and just swing your arms to build up the strength.. just do that then couple weeks from now try to Barrell.
I can do 90 of them! But basically none of the switch leaps ☠️ cuz switch leaps suckkkk & My fav jump is a brisé - not in the vid, but still deserving a high ranking 😚

@@MikachuAiI have so many videos from when I first started dance and it means so much to be able to look back at them to see the growth over the years. Fractured my foot doing #16 😭😭. When I told people, they were confused on how I broke it exactly so I used this video as an example 💀
I can do them all except from the barrel one
A detail.....a jump is pushing off with one foot and landing on the same foot or pushing off of two and landing on two, when you change legs, it’s called a leap not a jump. 👍🏼
Almost correct!
Hop = 1 foot to (same) 1 foot
Jump = 2 feet landing on 1 foot (example = sissone jump )
or
Jump = 2 feet landing on 2 feet
or
Jump = 1 foot landing on 2 feet
Leap = 1 foot change other foot
Awesome!
Thank you 😊
Star jump looks like my toe touch and almost all of my leaps 🥲
