I'm not soundclown. I'm just bad at making music.
+TheArzonite lol
my nigga
@@jockohomosexual nice.
@@SlyHikari03 look you need to know that i was literally 10 when i made that it was 5 goddamn years ago im actually ok at mashups now
Hearing Disturbed scream "ANIME!" made my day. I cant stop giggling. I will now hear that ever time I listen to Down With The Sickness. Forever.
3:43 My heart breaks a little while I was expecting the drop...
Me too..
Same
yep
Yeezus island was the most glorious thing I've ever heard.
Yes, you speak the truth. Praise Yeezus.
If there was a crying sound, it could be Kim.
I was expecting you to mention Neil Cicierega's Mouth series. Those are definitely the closest things existing to coherent Soundclown albums.
pisscore albums are kinda coherent
I love this part of soundcloud. browse it all the time.
+Connor Norng Could you provide me with some links to some soundclowns? I would love to see more of them.
knight wing search BEEEEEEEES and android52
knight wing also seriousaccount
Connor Norng Thank you.
+Connor Norng Never really been in to soundclowd all that much but I love le memes. Can you tell me how you browse soundclowns?
Am I the only one that has listened to a soundclown so many times that you ended up legitimately liking it. Like the song Pisscord by S44K, I listened to that song a bunch of times because its funny, and then realized that it is an actually good mash-up and not just a stupid troll soundclown.
You are not alone.
soundcloud.com/d-j-detweiler/tnght I have no idea how many times i have repeated this track... and still laughed my ass off along with Brecking Wall
nice Kneesocks pic
Damn you. Now that fucking song is stuck in my head.
Oh yeah, if we're talking about legitimately good Soundclown, you can't forget this one:
soundcloud.com/sgtscrubnoob/the-soundcloud-meta-january?in=kochevi/sets/soundclown
Captain Obscurity As a person who listens to those mashups that are passed off as jokes, I will agree. Mashups and soundclowns are actually well done, even if they're ridiculous. I have a strange love for mashup songs for Space Jam, and some of them are actually really good.
I was a part of this community when it first started coming around, and let me tell you, you barely scratched the surface. Death Grips is probably the biggest meme on Soundclown. As well as the Pryda snare, a guy having the loudest orgasm ever, Danny Brown vocal tracks, Pizza Hut Taco Bell, and many more!
Nice
Folk meme
The rarest folk
Like in 91.56 seconds for luck
I knew a guy who posted a song of himself banging his piano and crying. you couldn't make out what it's saying but it's sound like "shit why did you do this" or something. it's called "supersadsong" I don't know if it's still up though. he played it to our class one day because the teacher asked if we had any "special talents"
Oh
omg, that's hilarious
Beautiful
That’s amazing.
"they had dylan and we have skrillex" is a sentence that makes me very sad.
+Calvin Lee at least we still have those old dylan vinyls, tapes, CDs, and even all his albums on spotify. there's also a lot of great music out there being made today, you just got to look.
i know right Dylan sucks
Music evolves. Taste evolves. Cling to the past and the songs that were dear to your youth if you wish, but change is inevitable, and Skrillex, though he may be unpalatable to many (myself included), his works and his kind of music are small aspects defining a community, a generation, with their own particular shared interests and cultural understanding. If you do not belong to that cultural landscape, that is fine, but don't diss on people that you personally do not appreciate. Realize that the past is always seen through rose-coloured nostalgia.
Nobody's clinging to the past. Bob dylan was the greatest songwriter who's ever lived. He's loved by people young and old. Kids growing up now deserve something better than what they're getting. It's absolutely pitiful.
Jay bob dylan is not part of my youth; i'm only 25. i discovered his music at the same time i was discovering modern music. so if i'm seeing dylan through "rose-coloured nostalgia" just because i first listened to him when i was young, then i must be seeing skrillex through that same nostalgia; i first heard him when i was about 14, and he was in some screamo/emo/whatever band that was pretty popular at the time. even in my youth (the same time i was discovering guys like dylan) i knew skrillex was terrible. so the whole "rose-coloured nostalgia" thing is just not true. i heard both, realized one was awful, the end.
i don't even dislike dubstep. some of it is really cool and creative; or at least it used to be. skrillex is 100 percent responsible for ruining dubstep. it used to be an interesting new type of music with a lot of potential. not many people had heard it yet, so it wasn't very commercially successful; because of this, dubstep artists were being wild and creative, and experimenting in ways that they couldn't if they had a 10 million dollar record deal with producers breathing down their necks. the result was awesome, completely original music; a completely new genre. then skrillex decides "i'm done with being an emo singer, i'm going to jump on this new dubstep thing" and he releases 'scary monsters'. the song makes tons of money, it catches the eye of every hollywood suit trying to keep their finger on the pulse of what's "cool", and within two weeks dubstep is watered down into a repetitive, uncreative formula that makes it all sound the same, and they start using it to sell everything from vodka to homeowner's insurance. every form of media is flooded with dubstep, and what was once a cool new budding music scene, becomes a meaningless commercial soundtrack almost overnight. if skrillex never happened, we could've seen dubstep grow organically over time. unfortunately, skrillex did happen, and an entire genre of music was ruined.
i don't remember dylan doing that.
This might be my favorite episode of This Exists, probably because something that I'd never heard of before is both extremely weird and extremely enjoyable. I'll be spending a lot of time listening to soundclown after this episode.
I was so inspired by this shit, I'm now writing soundclown, go check me out pls:
soundcloud.com/artartart
You should do an episode on fan edits. Let's not forget that people actually did stuff like replace the audio of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings with Ralph Bakshi's animated version, and someone made Neo, Spider-Man, Batman, and more fight.
This is a good idea.
This Exists This Exists episode on fan edits confirmed.
This Exists What about one on abridged series videos?
Matt The Sheep I find This Exists to tackle more surreal topics. I personally never really found Abridged series to be surreal. Not a bad idea, though. I actually would kind of like to see a This Exists episode about Abridged series.
The bit about "sound collages" and plunderphonics reminds me of The Avalanches, who made an entire album consisting of songs made of nothing but clips from old movies. The lead single and best known song, "Frontier Psychiatrist", is fucking AMAZING.
Go follow "nice job br0o0o0o0o0o0o0o" he makes really funny shit on soundcloud.
YES
+Marty Mcfly yessssssssssss
I'm glad you're versed in your "weird soundcloud" knowledge
+Marty Mcfly the gay bagels guy?
+Marty Mcfly I like the one where he actully tries making dubstep
omg that recorder on that wreckin ball thing was sooo bad it gave my dog cancer of the ears.
No Chinese comic books were harmed in the rapping of this video
I think you mean Japanese comic books... Or manga..
Rosefire NAAWWWW
Rosefire there are chinese comic books
Rosefire whoosh
I think u mean Chinese coretoons
This video barely scratches the surface of what’s in SoundCloud... there is so much obscure music, and most of it is so bad it’s funny
The Koan Sound one at the beginning was brilliant.
+Wontolla lol i just posted the same thing.
+Wontolla 6:33 Name song? i saw it on kill the noise tweet but what is the original
+cris casallas The vaporwave track, no idea, but the vox are All Star by Smashmouth, and if you haven't heard it, the whole internet will make a lot more sense after you do.
well i like it
+cris casallas just search macintosh plus
I came here thinking he would talk about those weird NSFW Undertale Audios on Soundcloud.
***** Idk
I ran into a couple of those when I was on SoundCloud 😉
how could one find said audio?
You thought this 10 minute long 2014 video was talking about erotic audio about a 2015 game.
it would be awesome if a real hit was produced using a flute just like that
haha yea
Umm...Have you heard Derulo's Wiggle?
The Beatles! Nowhere man.
haydenx, that's a joke, right?
Songs like these make me laugh every time and I'm disappointed in myself
damn, I was expecting him to bring up the many of Joel's "grand dad" remixes
This is my new favorite thing. I am surprised by how often this show actually surprises me. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
^ Clear effort into engaging with fans
10/10
would comment again.
Nicholas Ferezin Inb4 1 million subs and minimal fan engagement :'(
i am a "soundclowner" (i hate using that term). some people might recognize my works under the name reaperkun on soundcloud. i'm going to say that the soundclowns you featured are indeed funny, but i can tell you the people who made them hate the term soundclown as much as i do.
if you want good "funny internet folk music" i can direct you towards the genre Pisscore which is basically plunderphonics but more "meme"-ified, sometimes tying in with soundclowns tied in. (but please dont make a video about it i'll cry)
I've always noticed the Misfits poster on the backdrop and I noticed The Germs, Black Flags, and The Descendents. Nice choice in music!
NielCic on soundcloud very much epitomizes this genre, imo. (Also this entire thing in a nutshell is basically "as soon as this starts, you yell WAT" )
Being a member of Soundcloud that is moving away from Soundclown (user Lovebutt♥) I want it to be clear to everyone that Soundclown kinda sucks. Yes, it's clever, it's new(ish), it's a way of teaching information like joke telling or just basic conversation construction. It's cool that it's going back to concepts of passing down information and important concepts one by one like our ancestors used to, but the fact that it goes through the internet means that a single concept can get boring and overdone to a point of annoyance in a day. People who have been a part of Soundclown for a while should remember the "Cool Guy" meme use which ran dry in less than a day. People often complain that Soundclown is a byproduct of Soundcloud, where real music is shut out by funny jokes and a much quicker system of media. It's only nice (to me) in an addictive sort of way, which doesn't have to be a bad thing, but given how hard it is to escape the community without creating a new account makes it unwanted by many.
That first one, the Seinfield Blaster is so fucking great hahaha xD
Glad to see this back online. Easily one of the best episodes of This Exits.
That's completely new to me! I never knew there was such a thing as Soundclown. I wouldn't say it's folk music; it sounds more like dual mixes inspired through creativity in the similarity or high contrast between two or even more soundtracks/songs.
When "Down With The Sickness" was in that anime one I died 😂
"Or you just want a supercut of rappers saying the word “anime.”"
I find this offencive.
i just call them "dank meme remixes"
More like memixes amiright
I call em high quality rips.
I would just like to say that soundclown is literally one of my favorite things, and I sincerely thank you for making an episode about it, Sam.
But, about the whole folk music thing, the statement that soundclown is internet folk music sounds kind of ridiculous to me, but that point about us having Skrillex and the early years having Dylan is a pretty cool point.
naw but srsly thnx 4 makign a episong bout soundclownd
I'll argue it, but I'll also admit it's a stretch. Kind of fun to just stake out a position and see what happens sometimes.
Bruh why my shirt say peebok
That Seinfeld funk blaster mashup is transcendent. Would pay money for that.
The episode has returned. 'Tis a day of rejoice.
this is some neil cicierega shit
I keep waiting for him to do an Animutation episode...Neil Cicierega is one of the most important people in the entire history of art.
HaydenX Agreed Neil is a genius
Isn't he? Crocodile Chop was a good one.
Marcus skuse best also, just the entirety of mouth silence
Great episode, but you should have mentioned Neil Cicierega and his Mouth Sounds/Mouth Silence mashup albums he made earlier this summer. It isn't pure soundclown, but a good number of the tracks are, and it's actually quite listenable as well.
Praise Soundclown.
6:14 just won the fucking internet im done
is it still on SoundCloud? i can't find it
+GenderlessAlien Yeah I think the title is just changed.
+Expand Dong Unfortuantely, it's gone for good.
I fucking love it. Shame it was taken down (allegedly).
Found it on Bandcamp: grindfolfhitz.bandcamp.com/track/yeezus-island
Ahem....
Whats happening form?
soundclown, the home of all high quality rips
The lost episode! Yes!
shawnragell Follow your dreams. You can reach your goals. I am living proof.
The Newsroom might just be my favorite show to watch on TV. Sorkin's over the top writing style makes talking about things after they happen on TV seem like life or death. It's insanity.
im still sad he never did a comments for this video on the next video, because i feel like someone had to bring up neil cicierega/lemon demon's mouth albums, and much of his other work, cause it has a similar idea of remixing and combining other music to create a comedic product, but neil does it to make full genuine songs. but i am commenting on a 5 year old video on a channel that hasnt updated in 2 years
"This is honest in 2014..."
As a walking anachronism, I can safely say it is a brave new world *shudders in horrified horror*
I'm glad to see soundclown getting recognition.
I LOVE soundclown so much! I follow a bunch of UTAU and Vocaloid soundclown mixers and they are always amazing and funny
You're giving it far more credit than it deserves. It's funny and everything, but it's EXTREMELY niche. It's not nearly the 'movement' you make it out to be...
this is turning into my fave channel !
The recorder remixes are the BEST, i swear.
Yes, finally you talk about SoundClown...
I think SoundClown is just like TH-cam Poops (like you said), but instead of working on video source you work with music or sounds... I wouldn't call it "folk music" though personally, it's kinda weird.
Oh and also, i'm still waiting about OCremix and VGM Covers... :P
Soundclown seems more like contemporary Dadaist music than folk aesthetically, but I would agree that Dadaism and Folk share a ideological contempt for the bourgeoise. The biggest difference is that folk's approach is more constructive in that it tends to valourize the working class and promote discussion of everyday injustices. Whereas Dadaism just likes to stir shit up and promote disgust, disdain, and all round lunacy.
I wouldn't mind seeing you do an episode on the legacy of early avant garde art, music, and literary movements pervading contemporary culture. For example, Negativland style sampling is just an extension of Marcel Duchamp's Readymades.
Sound Poetry would also be an interesting episode idea. It's been around for over a century, but most people I talk to about it have never heard of it.
Great channel. Keep up the good work!
Well, you've showed me a new thing to love today. Thanks, Sam!
Any time, Troggie42.
Maybe put a link to shaliek's youtube channel in the description? It looks like this video mostly focuses around shaliek's soundcloud uploads, and he's got a lot of stuff on TH-cam too (dog pleasure night, etc)
Also I hope you've heard 3LIXAR's "new LEAKED episode of Johnny Test on cartoon network"
Definitely worth a listen for the whips
You're right, link added!
Really worth the whipping
This Exists or you could, maybe, at the very least, link to everyone who was featured in this video, maybe
Ha! So true...its really whipping but worth it
Hoobastankonia Should have been there to begin with. Adding all the links in the description now.
Easily, one or your best episodes to date.
+1 For the Grey Album references
+1 For touching on Sage Francis (not literally)
This episode is why I subscribed. Informative, entertaining, and thought provoking. Do I think it's like folk? That's a bit of a stretch. But the sad reality is that it just may be this era's equivalent. Well done, sir.
Soundclown songs makes the best ringtone
I love these videos explaining subculture history!! Its really helpful to understand your context in history, even for silly things.
I think Soundclown music shows a growing societal critique of popular culture: how bad is manifactured memetic entities that they're more entertaining in these mashups?! But I love soundclowns and co are democratizing popular culture instead of letting only those with capital control the media. They are interesting in context of using entertainment created for monetary gain for their own use, which although legal under fair use laws is still a difficult area.
The Soundclown stuff actually fits in pretty nicely with some of the more prevalent themes in post-modern art, where everything has been done before and there's no such thing as a genius/savant artist (aka anyone can be an artist). The material and the ideas (to an extent) that are used aren't precisely original and it's stuff anyone can do, so instead of comparing them to folk music, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say they're art.
Never before met with banned songs on sc. Usually browsed on my own and didn't find "popular" stuff. Weird experience with that soundcloudpolice lady telling me gtfo
the recorder drop on higher ground had me on the floor lmao. I can't XDD
This type of music is folk music in the sense that it combines all of the aspects of the internet into songs. The actual difference is that folk music of years past (Bob Dylan, John Lennon) tried to change parts of the culture they thought was wrong. Soundclown is just Macklemore on LSD
How can you not mention McMaNGOS, he is the ultimate soundclown
The Vaporwave video was interesting, but this Soundclown genre looks even better.
The episode's back, yay!
This channel is a dream come true.
Thanks to this video, I now dont need to wonder what would happen if you combine Undertale's "Ghost Fight" with "Ghostbusters"
well now we got Video Game High Quality Rips
The fact that he didn't mention Neil Cicierega pisses me off.
rest in peace soundclown 2014-2014
So I have actually been watching The Newsroom, and I didn't find it too bad. Yes, it was a bit melodramatic at times, but it is rather well-structured and well-written, as is expected of an Aaron Sorkin show. But I wondered why Sam was so negative about it... It was then where I found out about the identically-named, unrelated Canadian show, which was apparently one of the best T. V. shows that Canada has ever produced. So now I've been interested more in finding that show. I was a big fan of the likes of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Royal Canadian Air Farce, and DaVinci's Inquest (big jump, I know)... The CBC in my opinion really was the best channel available on bare-basic cable from across the border in the mid-2000s. So I'd like to take a page from the Canadian playbook and say on behalf of sometimes seemingly uncaring Americans...
Sorry.
awesome episode, it came back...sooo stoked...
the biggie sample is the song 'everyday struggle' for anyone wondering.
I honestly don't think it is folk music by any stretch, but it is certainly an interesting thought. I feel that folk is supposed to represent a generation of people, but this is something completely different. As someone who wanted to be a soundclown since I heard my first airhorn remix, I feel like these are simply to have fun, not to tell a story, but to take something and turn it into your own.
This video sparked a long time love I have for ideaot. Terrible terrible good stuff.
Thank you.
I haven't read all the comments, but Neil's Cicierega's Mouth Sounds / Mouth Silence releases deserve a mention with regard to this meme-centric mash-up lulz vibe for sure (if it hasn't been mentioned already ofc)
Hey! You got the episode back! :D
ALL OF THE ONES IN THE BEGINNING ARE MAKING ME LAUGH SO HARD
I'm with you there man, The Newsroom is one of the best series out there, so sad it's the final season tho
Soundcloud for me, is the gateway to Glitch Hop, Neuro Hop, Glitch Funk, Acid Crunk and so many more genres. :D
I don't know dashboard confessional, or sage francis.
But that "hands down Gandhi" you played sounded good, and I listened to the remix, it was pretty okay.
I really enjoy these videos. Keep it up.
The Macklerena is too catchy. I didn't need that in my brain.
This video was the reason I joined soundcloud.
Wrecking ball on flute? I just died.
The end of plunderphonics was when Canibus dropped "Rip VS. Poet Laureate".
+x BublizZ Kappa
You had me at "LeVar Burzum."
There is little point in making this video. Yes, we were already aware people use an easily accessible medium to create various works of art.
+Plipo Gamez :^) nice meme
Plipo Gamez i never even heard about soundcloud before this video. So there was a point. It opened my eyes to soundcloud and soundclown.
Joseph Kony died of Ebola this morning. RIP you were a hero to many. :(
The lost episode! Finally!
D:
Oh good the Mentors sample is still up. I love the channel but have been apprehensive since the Alan Smithee episode doesn't discuss any Snuff Film comments. I really didn't mean to piss anyone off. I hold my Canadian neighbors in the highest regard and can't wait to go looking for You Can't Do That On Television filming locations in Ottawa soon. Toronto is not the center of the universe? Now we've gone too far.
At first I thought this channel was pretty cool now its in my top ten favorites.
Sad part is that none of these are playable.
In SoundClown, ideaot has been my fav, he has a lot of content too.
Soundclowns Forever!
Holy crap I've had that Dashboard/Sage mashup since back in like 2005/6. I didn't even realize anyone else new who the Legion of Doom was. I've got a Bigge Vs GrateFull dead mashup album from the same year...wish I could remember who made that one.
The way you described it is a lazy and tiny mashup, but still very much a mashup, yet you said it wasn't a mashup. I feel that you could have explained it a little better.
Disappointed Aphex Swift didn't get a mention, though for a second when you brought up Girl Talk I wondered if there'd be more digging into non-soundcloud material, like The Avalanches. And don't even get me started on cLOUDDEAD or Com Truise...
...Yeah, my friend pushed me down the weird music rabbit hole about eight years ago. I'm still falling and even now I can't see the bottom. I just try to pull other people in with me at this point
