    What if you want to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales, but you are not British, and you do not live in the UK?
    Well, one of the requirements, in addition to being able to pass the exam, is that you need to have a degree. If you studied overseas, and you want to rely on your foreign degree, then you need to be able to show that it is equivalent to a UK degree. But it does not have to be in the subject of law, it could be in another subject.
    You will need to sit and pass both SQE1 and SQE2. SQE1 and the written assessments of SQE2 can be taken abroad. However, the SQE2 oral assessments can currently only be taken in England and Wales.
    You then need to complete 2 years of qualifying work experience. This can be undertaken in any country. Plus, the experience does not need to cover the law of England and Wales. However, the experience does need to be signed off by a solicitor of England and Wales as meeting the requirements.

    I have 2 questions regarding the time period of the 2 years qualified work experience:
    If I come from a country like Mexico where being a lawyer is not a profession regulated by a specific authority as in your case (a law degree is enough to practice) and I have how to prove work experience in Mexico. Is that valid for the 2-year QWE?
    If I already live in the United Kingdom and work as a paralegal but have not passed the exams, this work experience is already valid for the 2-year QWE or it will only become valid once I pass the exams, and before passing the exams that experience will not be valid account?

    Thanks for the informative video . Kindly say if one is already in UK would the experience that they had in a foreign country as a lawyer would that be accounted towards the qualifying work experience. Also what kind of equivalence is required for a foreign Law Degree is required to sit in the SQE1 and 2 exams

Do I need to go back to law school in my country (Nigeria) or do I need to go to do my LLM before coming to UK for my Bar exams? I would appreciate your opinions. Thank you!

    I've got one question but I'm not sure to be at the right place (sorry if not) : today in 2023, as a French person, living in France, do I have the right to buy a property in Great Britain, apartment or house, to live there (without working) ?

    • @lawabiding123
      @lawabiding123 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. You can buy a property in the uk. To live permanently in the uk you need to have a relevant visa to stay in the uk and that depends the category you want to chose or something which is relevant to your qualification or experience or the availability of funds

    If I am a foreign lawyer, how can I go about finding a solicitor to sign off my QWE? Or it's practically impossible if I don't have a local employer?

    • @futuresolicitor
      @futuresolicitor  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As a foreign lawyer seeking to complete your QWE, I would suggest some or all of the following steps: Networking, Contacting Local Law Firms, Events and online seminars, Legal Recruitment Agencies, Online Legal Communities, Consult with Regulatory Authorities (SRA in this case), you might also consider Part-Time or Remote Work. I hope this is helpful.

    Hi Tom, hope you’re doing well. I’m an international student, have done LLB Hons from the University of London. Currently, I do not have the funds to do SQE from England. What should be my next step?

      Hi there, you don't need to be in London to prepare for SQE exam. For example, with the help of our SQE1 preparation course, you can study and prepare for the exam from anywhere in the world. Once you feel you are ready, you can then take the exam at one of the Test centre near you.

    If i am a lawyer in Belgium, can I become a lawyer in the UK?

    • @futuresolicitor
      @futuresolicitor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes if you are Advocaat or Avocat from Belgium, your qualification has an agreed SQE2 exemption. This only applies to lawyers who have qualified through a jurisdiction's full legal qualification route and are not cross-qualified from another jurisdiction. Refer to this link for the details: www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/qualified-lawyers/sqe-exemptions/

      I don't think anyone would ask you to have SQE to seek an employment since you wouldn't be a solicitor unless you meet a) SQE 1 And 2 and issued with a practicing certificate from SRA
