You need a good balance of both bass boost and treble boost; he’s the originator of the “super-jazz(bass)” sound. Dime the treble only usually sounds too shrill on most basses. Don’t overdo the compression, but most importantly you want fresh stainless steel rounds (DR Hi-Beams were his favorites back in the day).
