Dzien Świra is indeed one of the greatest movies ever. It is about an aging divorced teacher and a family man that seeks redemption in processing routes of his life. Polish cinematography is indeed one of the most exquisite on this Earth.

You should watch all the movie to understand it. In fact, it's not a comedy. It's a tragedy with lots of sarcastic humour about an unhappy, elderly, burnt out teacher with mental problems (neurosis) and his reaction to the world outside. The dialogs with his son are not the most important. Also, you need to understand the situation in Poland under communism. And, you are probably too young to really understand the man's problem. But it's worth trying. Start from the beginning of the film.

To film o polskim intelektualiście w średnim wieku chorującemu na zaburzenia obsesyjno-kompulsywne w Polsce czasu przemian. Przeżywa frustrację, gorycz, niespełnienie. Męczy go rzeczywistość wokół niego, niskie zarobki, polska mentalność. Kiedyś bardziej bawił, teraz podczas oglądania czuję ból i melancholię. Dużo jest cierpienia w tym filmie. Jest dosyć hermetyczny, bo jest bardzo polski - odnosi się do naszej historii, kultury, itd.

It's a satire about typical Pole procastinating, self-aware of his missed opportunities, traumas, a man who can't find a peace and is living with a past. Polish comedies from 90's are kind of satire ofna daily life, but in fact they show our lives in a kind of exxagerated way

  • @natalias50

That is an actually brilliant tragicomedy.
It has to put in the context so it’s not easy for a foreigner to understand.
It’s about Polish people and the ‘ceiling’ they discover when they get older- the limit on how much they can achieve in their life because of national traumas, complexes and the whole system.
If you are from Eastern Germany and your grandparents/ parents were telling you about life in socialism you might like Polish comedies from that period.

"Nice movie, you feel good after it" xD
This movie has many funny scenes, but overall it's actually quite depressing - it focuses on the negative side of polish mentality (which affects mainly people of 50+ generation). The main character is a frustrated teacher dissatisfied with how his life turned out and he has mental issues (OCD).

Day of the Wacko is a specific film with a specific type of humor. A comedy drama. Slightly grotesque. Directed by the outstanding Polish director Marek Koterski. A strict director with a specific view of film. The role of the son is played by Marek Koterski's son. Very well-known actors from the Polish film scene play there. As a curiosity, the script of this film was written in the style of the thirteen-syllable poem, also by Marek Koterski. This is a syllabic verse format, in which each line contains thirteen syllables. Incredible imagination, to write the script in such a way and direct in the style of the thirteen-syllable poem.

It is very intelectual movie with lot in voice acting just not what, but how is it saying, with a lot of hiperbolas. And yes it is one of the most iconic polish movies.

This movie is a tragikomedy actually, but the best and most funny part of it is a "Polish prayer" almost at the end of the film. It shows Poles to the bone, especially how we "like" our neighbours... 😂 I mean appartment neighbours not countries... I think so 🤭

@ 6:13 that's us, Poles. It's typical of us that although we oftentimes disagree with each other on many subjects, or have totally different opinions, which sometimes looks as though we're fighting our arguing hard, we still love and have a lot of respect for one another. But I agree with you that lots of us overuse the K-word and others. It really hurts my ears when people do that. But on the other hand, we're not racist or xenophobic at all, as the problem of slavery has never existed here. If you want to come and visit Poland, you're welcome with open arms. 😊

This film is about a middle-aged teacher who has separated from his wife, loves his son and yet longs for the love of his youth. Throughout the film, he longs to unwind. More drama than comedy, comedy-drama is a stretch. At the same time, I think it's very Polish. You should watch the whole film in peace. By the way, there's a series of films about this character, by the same director, sometimes played by different actors and sometimes he is a slightly different character.

4:52 the movie is widely known, it is very telling of polish reality about 25 years ago. Poland was in a hard transitioning period. Main character is a very depressed polish language teacher. I think you need at least to live in Poland for a bit to get it. It is a dark comedy - genre wise.

Actually it's a movie about the 'generation gap'. The father is trying to teach his son good things, while he has already failed in many areas of his life, and he isn't much better as a whole, than his son, and using so many swear words he shows that he quite frustrated and angry, in fact as a result of his own earlier mistakes. The topic is still up-to-date today, even the times are different'

It is so far from reality that u have in DE. What’s more, even for us it has a very strange style. The message of this movie is also not obvious.
