    I'm late but cantering on your first lesson? Jumping when you can't sit a canter? Jumping with a terrible two-point? I think that you should have done definitely more flatwork. A TON of it.

      She said to other people that she has taken lessons before this and cantered. for twenty lessons this is impressive! just some tips to help u improve: try to keep your toes parallel to ur horse instead of them sticking out to the side, it gives you better balance, and also keep your heels down because again it will help your balance, and make you feel more confident while riding. Also when jumping (btw ur jumping was rlly good for how long you've been riding) let the horse come to you, don't 'throw' yourself onto their neck as this will make it easier to fall off. And lastly I would make the reins a bit shorter to help have a bit more contact with ur horse (depends on the rider). These are just some tips my coaches told me which helped me feel a lot more confident while riding. keep up the great work ur doing amazing!

    You're doing so good but you really need to practice your canter and I don't think you should of started jumping before you could sit a canter or barely post. Also in your 2 point over a jump (half seat) put your hands farther up the horses neck and relax a little to that the horse give it's full potential when it leaps over.

    Hi so ..u ride very well but as a rider myself here is a tip to help with the canter
    So when u canter dont grip ur thighs cuz that will make u bounce just relax ur legs and lay a bit back
    And when jumping
    If its small jumps then u dont have to go all the way down cuz its a small jump so u sont need to go all the way in jumping position so just sit a bit more staight when jumping small jumps
    And a exersise for cantering is light seat that means a jockey position so trot while doing light seat and that will also help with canter😊
    Hope it helps!

    Okey so I’m very confused how your are cantering without a lunge line. Unless you own horses and this is your first actual lesson but still. I started to Canter 2 months before it was my one year anniversary of riding. Your Canter on the first lesson almost looks like your trying to post at the canter. When I started to canter I did the same thing but it’s usually an easy fix if you can get your heels down, but your heels are just flat the whole time. I don’t even jump and probably won’t for a few more years as I’m coming on 2 years of riding. I even still work on my trot, but more for the horse as the horse I’m riding just came back into work 2 months ago after not being ridden for 4 years. I’m helping her put her head down and making sure she flex’s after every ride. Even with her left lead canter she kind of throws her back up more, but me and my trainer who ride her both are working on that, just to clarify I do not own her.

      She said she has been riding with a different trainer before this and towards the end of her last lesson there they let her canter, that’s why they let her canter with this trainer on her first lesson with them. I was the exact same way and it took me around 20 lessons before I could sit the canter. She also said that she switched trainers so now she is with someone else and she’s working a lot on her canter

    This is great! It took me five seconds to rise to the trot and AGES to learn to sit to the canter. You're a natural and your hands were always kind and balanced. PLEASE keep it up. Loads of potential! I couldn't work out what 'half-seat' was for a minute there. We call it 'two point position' in Australia. Horse riding is the greatest mental health investment you can make. SO glad you did this. I'm well impressed!

    • @kristaequestrian
      @kristaequestrian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! I've kept riding for a year now after this video has been taken and I feel like I have improved a lot! I think "half-seat" is kind of like 2 point but you still come down in the saddle, it's just lighter. We still call it '2-point' when you go over jumps here too.

    i’m sure you’re much better now but i was cringing so hard when i saw you jumping without even knowing how to sit the canter 😬😂 i don’t know if that’s your instructors fault or not but i think flatwork and basic skills should always be mastered before moving on to more challenging things.

    Thanks for sharing, you're doing great. Please carry on working on canter, bouncing as you are will not only throw you off balance but will also make your horse pretty uncomfortable. Also, do you really need to be wearing spurs? Just an observation :-)

    • @kristaequestrian
      @kristaequestrian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've only ever worn spurs for one lesson since my instructor put them on me since my horse wasn't responding to my leg. Halfway through the video I was taught how to half-seat and they told me to only half-seat so I don't bounce anymore. I'm working on full-seat without bouncing now though through no-stirrups work.

    Okay so I was first just like to say I've been riding for over six and a half years and I am in the hunter jumper circuit, so first of all you should never have been caring that really you were obviously not ready and you should never ever of jump that really you need to get a good canner first and you did not have a good canner

  • @SaskiaEquestrian

  • @Laimai67

    I am really terrified right now, first of all cantering at the first lesson, the girl couldn't properly balane while rising trot that's just a big no no! Second of all she couldn't canter properly, even if they told you that you have to do half seat it was completely in correct since you we're just jumping in saddle-hurting horses back. It isn't good neighter for horse or you.

  • @michelletrombley9960

      Exactly. I started jumping after two years of flat work and I had to be able to sit my trot and properly sit the canter. Some of these jumps she did scared me because of how she was sitting the canter and her two point.

    you should not have cantered in your first lesson. I cantered after like 4 or 5 months of riding and I can tell that your position is way off. your foot was way to far in the stirrup and your heels weren't down or under you they were behind you. when you canter you don't post it and you have to keep your feet in front of you and your heels down. you did improve tho
