  • Today, I am testing out the Canon G7X Mark II camera specifically for photography. This was the main camera I decided to take with me on the Mighty Five loop in Utah. On this trip I shot everything in RAW format and edited everything with Lightroom Classic and my Lightroom presets which can be found here - www.kylersteele.com/shop/p/li.... I really think the Canon G7X Mark II is a great photography camera because its extremely portable (can fit in pocket) and its affordable ($500 vs $1000+ phones or $2000+ cameras with lenses). This camera can really be pushed to the limits in manual mode and the dials and interface on this camera make it easy for a beginner to learn. If you have any questions about the camera let me know! Otherwise like the video because it really helps my small channel get pushed onto others!

      It's a 2016 camera, and no longer supported by Canon. No service, no parts. Go for the Mark III or another brand.

    Always fancied one of these but they are holding their value pretty well in the UK. I was just clearing out the office last month and came across my old G16 which had been in a box for years. Charged the batteries and got straight out with it..,. still a lovely little camera and truly pocket-sized. Keep up the great work :)

    Great video and love the pics! I keep almost buying this camera and then wondering if I can find something with better specs/more modern for a similar price. I'm trying to get back into photography and being able to have a camera in my pocket at all times will really help with that. I'm not really bothered about video but I guess it would be nice to have the option to film at least 1080p if needed. Are there are any less hyped/more modern compact cameras or should I just take the plunge and buy one of these?

I'm thinking of buying this camera for the size, we're going on a Mediterranean cruise and there will be several ports to visit carrying my Nikon dslr would take more space and it could be stolen a lot easier.

    Ive been searching for a pocketable digital on the go. I may very well consider this one to replace my leica d'lux 7 type 109 or the "overpriced panasonic lx100ii" as many would say.
    You hit the nail on the head regarding two items that I personally want in a p&s/portable camera when im not using my expensive digital kit or 35/120 film.. 1) actually pocketable. My leica is not actually poketable even though it's smaller than the x100v, and 2) built in flash (the leica has external flash but I never remember it on the go)
    While I'm not terribly concerned with specs bc this would be my "on the go" camera for fun, i do want as best specs i can get for any given price point.
    I have considered the griii for its pocketability but I've seen such mixed reviews, and no flash. I've also considered the x100v but it simply doesn't deserve the hype/attention/price premium that folks are giving (in my opinion anywyas. Folks are acting as if film sims are something revolutionary).
    Quick question after a lot of context that you may not have needed/cared for lol... it seems like you are using this exactly the way I intend to. What would you say is the main drawback(s) to this camera?
    Selling my used leica would cover more than the cost of buying this new (or buy canon used and save more cash for film). Any feedback is helpful, especially anything critical of the canon. I do like my leica but I really wish it was truly pocketable. Hoping for a nudge one way or the other, either to stick with what I've got bc its good, or switcheroo bc canon is the shit. Thanks either way, love your content. Take care man.

    • @KylerSteele
      @KylerSteele  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only drawback that I can think of is that it’s an aging sensor. I would love to see canon release a mark iv with the same form factor and slightly improved sensor. But seeing all the other delays in cameras coming out I feel that this is the best we got for this purpose until supply chain sorts itself out! But regardless, if you are slightly experienced then you can easily get a ton of detail out of the raw files as shown in the video!

    • @justinperna9966
      @justinperna9966 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @KylerSteele thank you for the reply and apologies for the delay on my end! Didn't have notifications turned on for YT. I appreciate the feedback!
      I might just get this Canon and test it out, then decide whether to sell the leica or canon after testing.
      I just can't stand that the leica doesn't fit in my pocket, so it sits on the shelf 99% of the time.
      I agree that I'd like to see another update, but this Canon seems like a solid compromise for my needs. I'd use my professional or film kit for important shots/gig, and use this on the go (and for my wife to use who most certainly is a beginner).

    • @KylerSteele
      @KylerSteele  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Love the A6xxx line of cameras! Most people I recommend cameras too don't want to spend too much and once it gets into interchangeable lens cameras then they get pricier and more confusing. So there are less compact cameras in a decent budget for beginners that I feel are good recommendations
