- My fast and loose study of "Loch Long Morning"
by Joseph Mallord William Turner
Painted on Saunders Waterford 140lb cold pressed
Brushes: Medium Hake, Sable Rigger, Synthetic Flat 3/4"
Colours: Yellow Ochre, Ultramarine, Alizarin, Burnt Umber, Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Neutral Tint, Palette Greys
Music by Jesse Gallagher
I painted this demo in my own personal style, I very much doubt Turner would have worked in this way.

Hi , lovely video. Thank you so much. Brilliant work. Which paper are you using here please?
Elizabeth in Yorkshire
Hi Elizabeth. Thanks so much. I used Saunders Waterford 140lb Cold Pressed paper
Lovely painting! I like how you're not explaining every step, only painting with music. So refreshing for my ears.
Thanks so much, glad you liked it
I just stumbled over this video and what caught my attention was the resemblance to an oil painting I did. We had been driving south from Inverness toward Oban when we came upon this layby at the waters edge
I was taken by the scene and quickly took a photo viewing to do a painting once we returned home.
Some time past and at a group meeting we were challenged to do an oil painting. This was a medium I was not familiar with.
Pity I cannot post it here as you might think it was the same location👍
This is Loch Long. It’s not too far from Oban, could possibly be the same place.
Great technique and lovely painting but .... did Turner really work wet-in-wet like this demo? I think he very rarely worked wet-in-wet like this.
Thanks David. Yes you’re right, he probably didn’t work wet in wet, at least not like this. I think I wrote in the video description that Turner wouldn’t have painted in this way. This study was very much in my own style, using Turner’s composition for inspiration.
Rich tonalities in greys and browns, a wonderful demonstration of color mixing and layering with one flat brush. Thank you so much for your instructive demonstration of Turner watercolor study.
Thanks so much for watching
Please list your colors.
This a stunning demonstration of the subtle art of cspturing depth and tonal variation in a landscape. The background music adds a touch of intrigue to the whole process as we watch the painting unfold before our eyes.
It just shows what can be done with just a few colours, 3 large mixing wells and a minimum of brushes - the magnificent Hake brush being the star of the show! Subscribed in a splash!
Thank you so much!!
Excellent...very much enjoyed the process and the approach to your painting. I can see some of Turner in your work. Learnt a lot from this video...thanks for posting.
Thanks Steve. I’ve always been hugely influenced by Turner. I learn a lot from attempting to copy his paintings in my own style. More importantly, it’s fun !!
Very nice work. I think the choice of music was perfect for the painting ☺️
Thanks very much, Jay 😊
Finally, a calm beautiful watercolor lesson. Ahhhhhhhh.
Thank you so much 😊. And thanks for watching !!
I just need 2 colors you say?. Then why all artists have dozens of different tones of in their drawers?
You can use whatever you want. But you can also do a lot with just two pigments.
wonderful to watch, thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching !!
Awesome, I've found someone who does turner's style. He's my favourite artist. Carry on, with his style dude 😎
Thanks so much. Everything I do has been influenced by Turner. Although, I don’t really think I have in any way mastered his amazing style. I will continue to try !!
really amazing artwork. nice sharing my friend
A good enough demo of hake painting but hardly Turneresque!
As mentioned in the title, this is a quick study of a Turner watercolour, definitely not a copy. I painted it in 20 minutes, in my own style.
😊nice job what is your watercolour name ?
Thank you
Sorry. Just found the colors.
❤
Awesome thanks
Thanks so much for watching !

Very nicely done!!!
Thanks so much
Nice work. But I do not think this is Turner's style at all.
It’s a copy of Long Loch Morning by Turner. Painted in my own style. Thanks for watching
