    This video was a Godsend for me! I own a 5555 that has been dripping hydraulic fluid from under the transmission and was unsure how to check the fluid level and fill it. In the comments section a couple people said to remove the vent plug behind the seat to fill it and that worked great! I haven't figured out where the leak is coming from but at least in the meantime I can keep adding fluid so the pump doesn't burn up! The owners manual isn't much help.

    Thanks Pete, I have a Mahindra 6075 4WD Cab tractor. I too have looked everywhere on the 50 hour oil and hydraulic fluid change . Hank with Hamilton Farms and you are the only ones to give me a clue as to what I should do. I have about 18 hours so far on my tractor. I have time but want to be prepared. Again thank you.

    the hole that you put it in on this video is where you check the fluid level on mine

      You should have gotten a thick glossy color page Owner's Manual with your tractor and a CD in a sleeve on the inside front or back cover. The CD has the Owner's Manual, Service Manual, Parts Catalog and a couple others in digital format with active links.
      If you didn't get that then I'd go back to the dealer and request it. If you just didn't find it, take the CD out and put it in a safe place.

    Hello Pete and anyone else confused by the hydraulic fluid specs described in the Mahindra 5555 operators manual.
    It says to use SAE 80W UTTO which is a confusing bunch of malarkey.
    UTTO is an abbreviation for Universal Tractor Transmission Fluid.
    When you cross reference 80W UTTO it crosses over to 30W.
    Yes, I know it's confusing and why they describe it that way beats the heck out of me.
    With that said the good old Traveler Premium sold at TSC will be just fine when it comes time to change the hydraulic fluid.
    When I asked the techs where I bought my Mahindra 5555 about what they use when one comes in for service I was told that unless the customer specifies a different brand they use a product similar to Traveler Premium since it's less expensive than the name brands and performs the same. ( TSC doesn't sell 55 gallon drums of Traveler as far as I know or they would use it ).
    I hope my comment sheds some light on the subject and by all means do NOT go out and put 11 gallons of 80 weight in the transmission or something really bad will happen really quick. :-)

    Thanks for the informative video. I have a 5155 that’s just coming up on its 50 hr service so this was VERY helpful. The one question I have and apparently many others do is the hyd oil specification. I agree the 80w listed in the manual is dead wrong. You noted the use of TSC Premium Tractor Fluid which I have used over the years in other machines with very good luck. However, the label on the back of this product no longer lists Mahindra,. Maybe this is due to the different tranny types they offer, mine is a shuttle. Have you done any more research on this topic?

    They also make strainer screens that fit inside the top of 5 gallon buckets. You can find them online usually between 25 and 600 microns.

  • @noneovyerbusiness4909
    @noneovyerbusiness4909 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You can remove a square headed drain plug from the back of the rear axle below the PTO before removing the cleanable screen to drain most of the oil . I own a 2017 5555 with less than 500 hours on it and have mostly had small problems with poorly designed hose clamps and inferior rubber hoses that allows coolant and oil leaks. If the tractor sits for awhile the clutch friction disc sticks to the flywheel. On several occasions I've had to run the front end loader into a tree to get the clutch to release. Some people make a clamp to hold the clutch pedal in the disengaged position if the tractor is going to sit for awhile. The shuttle shift gears will grind badly if the clutch is dragging. If I slip the clutch excessively a few times it seems to remove some of the rust and reduce or eliminate the shuttle grinding. A hydraulic fitting under the tin cover that has the ID plate in front of the seat was leaking a lot of fluid. I removed the seat and cover to access the fitting and discovered a defective sealing washer behind the fitting. The hose clamps Mahindra uses are junk so I replace them with higher quality stainless clamps.

    you should have a trans oil fill behind the seat...it should say breather. i like the 1/4 pipe connector solution and pump set up though.
    glad you made a video of the maintenance routine, cause like you said, there is no reference on the net that i found. and the manuals are a little vague.

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading

      I was going to use the breather hole, I took off the breather cap and looked down inside but it didn't go directly through to the transmission and I noticed a drain plug below it, so I didn't want to take a change. But I guess it must drain down to the trans. Thanks for the info.

    Thanks for sharing your 50 hour maintenance video. I would be really reluctant to use 30 weight oil in a transmission. The prudent thing to do is ensure beyond any doubt, that the transmission and hydraulic oil requirements are correct... And another poster indicated new oil ought to replace the 50 hour oil that is drained. Oil is the bloodline of the engine and is one of the easiest things to deal with that can offer great protection and ensure longevity of the engine and hydraulic system.

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't find anything online about that, but I read on some forum that it was a 10w-30 hydraulic oil they use. I can't see it being 80w oil, it would be to hard for the hydraulic pump to push through all the lines. The oil that came out of the trans is very thin, definitely not 80w. But who knows.

    Great vid! I’ve got the same 5555. I hit a stump on one of the hyd lines under the front and had a decent leak. Now the movement of the loader and steering are very squishy and jerky during operation. Seems like it may have air in the system I’m guessing or could it just be low? Know if I would need to bleed the system after topping it up? And or how? Thanks 👍🏻

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be just low, I don't believe you bleed the system. The pump could be sucking air as you're working.

      OK so on the 5555 on the left side of the tractor toward the front is the fuel filter. Under that (i mean sticking down vertically under the fuel filter) is the fuel water sensor. You have to disconnect the electrical cable to it, then unscrew it about 1 to 2 turns until diesel starts to run out of the channel that's drilled into the sensor. You just need something to catch it. That's it. I just did it and it's easy.

    If this was mine, I think I would buy a second "screen" filter to expedite the job if it wasn't too expensive. But that's just me. Also, how about putting say a 45 or 90 degree fitting on that engine oil drain next time to eliminate having to pull the shaft cover. Would that work? What does it call for as the next service interval?

      Fumoto has been making valves for years for this very reason. Be careful looking at knockoffs. I had the oil plug thread specs at one time for my 6530 but misplaced them. You might could call your local dealer and get the specs and then find them on Fumoto's website. Seems like they're normally about $35.
      But for the money, taking 4 bolts out is pretty easy for something that doesn't get changed that often unless you use your tractor for business.

    That's quite a claim that their 80/90W spec is that wrong. I need confirmation that a much lighter oil won't destroy the hydraulic system. 80/90W is a pretty standard manual transmission oil. I have the smaller 2545 BTW. Any big difference? You're right about no information anywhere!

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up going to the Mahindra dealer and picked up a 5 gallon bucket of the universal transmission fluid to top it off, and it looks and feels like it's 10/30W oil just like the fluid that came out of my transmission. I know what 80/90 looks and feels like and I can assure you, what they sell and what came out of my transmission is not 80/90W plus it would be to difficult for the hydraulic system to push 80/90W oil through the hydraulic system. I think they need to update their owners manual because I can see 80/90W going into a manual transmission only. But if that transmission is also using the hydraulic fluid, then it can't be 80/90W
