Great video! Longtime Clinchfield fan here, spent countless days up there in the 80’s. What’s out there now doesn’t interest me like the older stuff, but the CRR aura is present in any era! I knew that for a least a while several years ago, a section of the former Clinchfield was idled, and the line was no longer a through route. How long did that last, and when did it return to it’s through route status? I made the trip up to the Marion - Spruce Pine - Erwin area in October and never saw a single movement, but just the feel of being line side up there is reward enough for making the trip!. It’s clear that the constant coal drags and empty hopper trains of the 80’s are now just a distant memory………
I believe that lasted for a year or so, but the line is open again with 4 daily freights and another that runs twice a week. Of course, there is as needed ethanol, grain, and coal trains on the line as well. You are correct, although the CRR and the Big Sandy (former C&O) still has coal traffic its nothing like 80s 90s level.
Great video with the beautiful fall colors.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
