So happy to see CSX rebuilding the railroad. CSX is the best railroad company in the USA. I am on the south end of the Clinchfield Railroad. The track is 75 to 100 Yards from my home in Mayo SC.
Pretty cool They documented using illegal materials for all to see. I wish they’d buy gravel instead of mining it from the riverbed. It will make the next floods worse and kill the local whitewater industry

So I read today that two kayak groups have filed a lawsuit against CSX and several government agencies over this reconstruction. They’re basing their lawsuit on an endangered mussel that lives in this river. I guess they think the massive reconstruction done after the (at that time) massive flood of 1977 in the gorge didn’t involve the same exact operations that are going on now! I’m quite sure that CSX is well aware of how much “in the public eye” this work is, and they’ll surely remove all traces of disturbance upon completion! BTW, another great vid! Thanks!
As usual, with these eco freaks, it's all about them. They will use whatever means necessary to throw a monkey wrench into things. I'm from the PNW so I'm familiar with what they have done to the logging industry. Go CSX.
Its just my $2.00 but anything that is being done to the rivers or land after the flood isn't having much of an impact. Given the scope of the floods, how much trash and silt have been deposited into the water ways, its hard to damage or contaminate something which is already contaminated. And you are right, the goal right now is to get roads and railroads open ASAP. Once thats done, it will allow for better access so the remediation of the areas can commence.
Well done, interestingly frantic music for such a slow process...makes for anticipation though and reminiscent of a Chuck Jones cartoon in real life. Cool.
Hey, now we have a way to wash the treads on all of our heavy equipment! ;) Is it too far for a pumper? That seems like a LOT of work for only a little gain.
What are the new poured footings and foundation for? A new bridge? There isn't a road or rail in the direction the footings are heading Anyone have any thoughts?
Hopefully this work can continue at this productive pace and not get bogged down in bureaucratic paperwork and environmental issues. Yes, it is important to be responsible with natural areas, but Mother Nature chose to alter this particular area in a very dramatic fashion, and it is now forever changed. I am sure the local residents are hopeful to restore the transportation network as soon as possible.
Look up the process of making welded rail. This is heavy ribbon rail and can take the weight of heavy trains for years without having to be completely changed out. When it does it’s mostly on sections such as curves where there is a lot more friction or on grades where wheel slip can cause rail burns. It was simply washed of the right of way (ROW) but notice for the most part held together minus some crossties that came loose. Not to say that some sections may have to be changed out because of a broken rail or an area where an interlocking switch was once located but for the most part it held together and it’s flexible, thus the nickname ribbon rail.
Clever use of the bucket to place concrete. A pumper truck would be quickest of course...Any FREE pumper trucks available out there? Please donate and support this disaster relief.
They’ve been crossing the river with equipment to cut in a temporary road down the far side of the river to begin reconstruction downstream of the bridge. I think what they’re doing is probably building a temporary bridge to stop driving through the river for two reasons. Firstly, the river is at a low level currently, but if a rainy spell started and the river rose, driving through it would be impossible. Second, if you read another comment I left, a lawsuit has been filed against CSX and federal agencies, and this might be a measure to appease those supposedly worried about clams!
They are not worried about clams. They are worried about their ability to raft down the river... the whole clam lawsuit is a way to slow down progress.
@@tomt9543 CSX is not shutting off the river. I live right at the boat landing in Poplar. I watch them every day. They are just trying to get on the other end of the trussel to fix it. I think you have the wrong rail line. They did close this line about ten years ago, but it’s been reopened and used more and more over the last several years. It was/is a relatively busy line.
They never closed the line, it sees 4-6 trains per day. They removed too many sidings on other lines to move the traffic there, so they have to rebuild it.
