  • This is a review of the Besson 700 Series Baritone. This type of instrument mainly came out of the UK, and has spread in some capacity to other parts of the world. Featuring in the British style brass band, it's designed to work well with the other selection of instruments that are used in that ensemble.

      I'm surprised people make fun of his accent. I think his accent is beautiful. Just proves how many babies are trapped in adult and teen bodies.

    Trent, I like your videos very much, but this is definitely not a detailed review of Besson 700 series. In a review I expect informations like how the particular instrument sounds, how it responds, something about tuning, comparison with other baritones you had played before, history of series, shank size, bore size etc.. This was more general. Still I liked your video and I put thumb up!

    Now, *that* is a baritone! Good review!

    My experience (as an ALTO-horn player in a Brass Band) is, that the baritone is actually more often "teaming up" with the euphoniums rather than the altos... great video though ;)

    Can you make a video of an instrument tour of all the instruments you have on your wall and elsewhere? That would be pretty neat-o.

    I just love the baritone it’s sometimes the forgotten but also important member of a brass band and has such a rich and beautiful sound.

    So I guess the baritone plays about the same role as the viola does in a string orchestra? Talking about filling up (harmonies)? - it wasn't said explicitly in your video.
    Sorry if this is a question that I shouldn't ask, I'm not an expert in brass instruments or brass orchestras. My heart belongs to Jazz, but I'm interested in orchestration and arrangement.

    @Metal-Possum 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If your music director thinks it's clever to arrange 4-5 part rock and pop tunes (such as The Beatles) then the poor old baritones and tenor horns get stuck playing rhythm guitar... Of course, the cornets and trombones never complained about rehearsing such music, they even sometimes went as far as saying it was good!
    Our arranger was also our principle cornet player, so of course he never got any boring parts.

    Thank you for the videos! This one was really cool? Would you consider reviewing the Bach Aristocrat TB600 trombone? It's the one that I play.

    Bari-niiz.* Can't wait to hear the next installations. More cantabile examples which demonstrate the instrument's voice. [talk about obscure a baritone pun mash-up with a Lawrence Welk reference.]

    @TheJH1015 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    ah yes, the type of baritone that's used in a typical Dutch-Belgian style of wind band (the 'fanfare' band). Such an underrated instrument and often replaced by the euphonium in those bands.

    Hey Trent, I recently bought an off-brand baritone from China, and it's lower range is just awfully out of tune. Low Bb drops to G#, Ab to F#, etc. On other baritones I play, the lower range is perfectly fine, it's just this one. Is this an issue that is fixable, or do I just search for songs that aren't very low?
