  • 1979 Bertram 28 flybridge moving to a wet slip to love on the water for the 1st time in 2 years since her voyage from Mattapoisett Massachusetts to Fort Lauderdale Fl.
The port side Crusader 270 inboard engine is giving trouble with the Rochester quadrajet carburetor. We had to use Boat US to tow us to her wet slip in Fort Lauderdale. I highly recommend purchasing a Boat Us membership or equivalent. Very useful.

The water coming out of the aft thru hull is for the aft bilge pump. The Mid or FWD bilge pump pumps out forward of the windshield on port side. If you have water aft, I would make sure that the FWD bilge pump is working as well. The way my 28 sits, water goes fwd first so if I have that much water aft, my fwd bulge would have water close to deck level. I added a 2500GPH bilge pump fwd with a second discharge and upgraded the original to a 950 GPH that only runs auto. I highly recommend figuring out the wiring or rewiring like I did. There should not be an "off" position, just auto or manual and power straight from the batteries, bypassing the battery switch. Great to see the progress and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the advice. I know there’s 3 pumps on the boat; one aft, one between the motors and one forward under the floor in the hatch right in front of the V berth.
I think mine collects water a little differently than yours because one of the previous owners stuck a significant amount of lead weights in the back of the boat… so the water between the engines was at almost the exact level as it was aft.
You’re right though, I really need to dig into that wiring and probably upgrade the pumps. But at minimum get a better understanding of what switches do what and at least get them labeled properly.
Thanks for checking in and look forward to seeing you on the water!

Why would risk your boat using that trailer???

I saw your boat docked out in the Dania Cut as I was making my way around to the new river
