Something progressive new and nostalgic at the same time.They're an eclectic mix of metal/prog-rock/blues/punk/pop/jazz/funk etc, but always with that hard rock base! In most of their songs they change it up slightly in the verse and pre-chorus rather than a straight repeat, keeping it fresh.
Dice was my first Band-Maid song about two years ago. I was buying all of their albums within a week of hearing that first song.

"Yeah"."Yeah yeah yeah". Indeed. The newer videos on their YT page have English captions. Their lyrics often contain English words and phrases. If you want a more mellow song from them, you could try "Daydreaming". Kanami (lead guitarist) always does tasteful, interesting (and very cool) solos. Band-Maid has many devoted fans!

Band Maid does not have a bad song, they do not do a bad liver performance. In fact, they're terrific live. They mix genres and it all comes out great. They write their own music. Best rock band on the planet today.
One of the best bands on the planet today! Great, great songwriters. Great performers. Check out their official live videos! Try Real Existence. Your score will go up the more you hear.
Their older videos don't have captions. Their newer videos with their new label do have them. Googling the translated lyrics is always an option. The drummer does use double bass. It's a two pedal system for one bass drum.
Thanks for taking a look at Band-Maid, for me, one of the best current hard rock bands out there. This song is what got me hooked on them, I kept trying to remember what it reminded me of, but I gave up as it's like the best hard rock I've listened to over the last 60 years, it just feels right in my ears.
Then Domination, Freedom, Onset, Puzzle, Moratorium, Don’t tell me, etc. Then you can dive to newer stuff. Then check ballads, Daydreaming, About us, Wonderland, then move to metal like, Rinne, No God... the journey is infinite.
What Haggai said! I'd recommend the live performances for Domination, Play, and Freedom.

It was a "little Banger'" Oh, we may be keeping that for the weekend, as we always like to keep the big ones for weekends.
BAND-MAID is a phenomenal hard rock band. These ladies has been rocking since 2013. They draw a lot of influence from great rocks groups of the past. Unlike Lovebites, they are not stuck in one genre, they can rock it hard but can also do ballad and anything in between. Furthermore, they are not afraid to fuse other genre such as jazz, blues, punk, etc. They are very versatile. Dice is just one of the many great songs from them. I highly suggest you explore their 100+ discography. If you like this, I guarantee you both won't be disappointed in the rest. Also, make sure you watch there live performances such as "Domination", "Play', "onset", and many more. Great reaction gentlemen and looking forward to more B-M in the future.

Welcome to Band Maid, best Hard Rock Band in the World!
A song that contains quite a lot, and yet shows so little of what these ladies are capable of... But I have to be honest, that one song alone is not enough to show that. These ladies are really versatile with their music and like to unite the most different genres under the rock hat. And at this point I get into a bit of a predicament. Normally I would also recommend a live performance like 'Freedom' at this point, but for a British channel the MV to 'Bubble' almost suggests itself. I'm sure you'll understand why. :)
And with that, also from Germany, welcome to the wonderful world called 'Band-Maid', where 5 young ladies in maid costumes with enormous talent are turning the rock world upside down. :)

Thanks to BAND MAID for reaction, they started out in the 70's and 80's hard rock and are now moving towards hard rock with complex, high-speed progressive, even jazz elements, catchy rhythms and melodies. They are constantly improving their playing ability and trying to create new things. Some songs are difficult to understand at one time, but they become more attractive as you listen to them several times. See also Different,Warning!, Manners and Giovanni.

Congrats on discovering the greatest rock-band of the century. I'm not kidding: with more than 100 songs in their catalog, at least half is in a masterpiece category, the rest is ranking from good to great. Don't waste your time on classification of their genre. They do everything from pop-rock to prog-rock with metal, jazz, funk, punk in the middle, but mostly staying in the hard-rock territory. Band-Maid is in genre of their own.
Kanami Tono, a.k.a. Kanamincho or Mincho, is a composer/songwriter/lead guitarist and a prodigy - she plays/study music since 3 y.o..
Misa is a bass-guitar monster shredder, a.k.a. The Barefoot Assassin, plays guitar since 5 y.o..
Akane Hirose is a drum monster shredder (220 bpm), a.k.a. Gorilla, multi-instrumentalist graduated from Tokyo Music School together with Misa.
Miku Kobato is the band founder/main lyricist/rhythm guitar/vocalist/spellbinder, former idol and a waitress from Tokyo's maid cafe, a.k.a. 800+ y.o. Small Pigeon.
Saiki Atsumi is a lead vocalist/lyricist/crowd dominator, a.k.a. The Ice Queen, the last word in the band belongs to her.
Band-Maid ladies are hellbent on the World domination, and they just started. I can predict that in 100 years history books will tell something like: "Boris Johnson - some insignificant politician in the era of Band-Maid."
Absolutely agree. This century might be short, but there's less than 80 years for another band it come in and take their throne and I don't think that's enough time.😉And anybody that can make a heavy, and distinctly progressive pop-punk song this good, a paradox in itself, and then also make a Latin fusion song (Matador) and a early 90's thrash metal song (Rinne) is too much to put in any single genre. Their diversity rivals bands like Queen or the Beatles more than any of their contemporaries. They are what all the genres of rock music should have evolved into in the late 00's instead of the empty, minimalist computer generated "instrumentation" of modern music.
Go live and find 10/10. Domination, Freedom, Real Existance. They are a live band. 5 virtual concerts and the 7th album released all during lockdown. You won't find a harder working band out there in the last 18 months.

I think you'll enjoy more Band-Maid! I wouldn't worry too much about searching your music memory banks for analogies at this point cuz it'll just get harder as time goes on. Even though they roughly stay in a hard rock lane, their musical direction will take you on many creative detours: layered jazzy stuff like Wonderland and Catharsis; gorgeous ballads like Anemone and Daydreaming; mind-bending trips like Giovanni and Black Hole; and phenomenal hard rock like Domination, YOLO, and Blooming. Of the rock bands playing today, they have one of the best (IMO *the* best) songwriting units, spearheaded by the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono.

Good reaction! I'm an old dude who hasn't been this excited about a rock band since GnR. They do have a way of bringing back a nostalgic feel and I think it is because the core of their sound is bluesy riffs. Definitely think you should check out a live performance from their channel to get a better feel for them as a band. Real Existence, Domination, Play and Freedom are all great, high energy live performances.

Having lost interest in the American music scene some time ago I really had given up hope of ever hearing music again that could "thrill" me. Then about a year and a half ago Band Maid hit me like a ton of bricks. Hard Rock had been resurrected by five young (incredibly talented) Japanese ladies. I have been in rock heaven ever since. I guarantee that the more you listen the more you will fall in love with them. Try a new video next just to see how much they have matured. Manners, Warning or Thrill live. Also Domination live last year would be a good next step.

Recommend "Freedom, Live" for your next Band Maid song. It's a must.
They have such a wide variety of songs. Pop rock, classic rock, hard rock, progressive rock, and even some ballads in the mix. The song writing is on another level, and the musicianship is on that same level. These ladies have become my favorite band, and I've been listening to rock music for my whole life. I don't understand Japanese, but music breaks the language barrier. Good music will always be good music.
Every song is basically different - lots of genres.... gals are really good. love to listen - cannot be bored.
You gotta go with anything live from these Phenomenal Ladies. Band Maid is a Once in a Lifetime Bands that are of such Outstanding Caliber in Musicianship.

After a the great 30 year rock drought where nothing was worth a tinkers damn, along came Band Maid a band of so many cloaks that they have NO rivals entered my life, and this 60 year old now is rocking out once again when I thought rock was truly dead, thank you Band Maid.

Leave it to Dice to provoke 2 guys visibly going thru all the stages of becoming a Band Maid fan during the course of a single video!🤣💪🏻🤘🏻 The outfits weren’t just an arbitrary management company idea, by the way. This band was formed member by member by the rhythm guitarist/vocalist, Miku Kobato after waitressing about 3 years in maid cafes in her hometown and Tokyo. She started learning guitar from her own lead guitarist, Kanami Tono, about 3 months after starting the band! So she’s literally learned onstage in front of everyone. Us long time fans have had the pure pleasure of watching and hearing her learn and improve album by album over the last 7 years or so. And she’s now brilliant on her Zemaitis guitars.💪🏻🤘🏻

Especially about the Zemaitis guitars, not a maker that I am familiar with, but just did a quick lookup and found that they are now Tokyo owned, but created by a British Luthier Tony Zemaitis. They made 12 strings for the likes of Clapton and Hendrix, they could knock out a few chords between them and also the likes of Joe Perry and even Mike Oldfield.
Very interesting, The brand's slogan "Art with Strings", perfect.
Today I learnt something, thanks for that.

Being a native English speaker should be an advantage If you area life-long rock music fan. And like you, I don't know all the words to all the top English language songs! No problem: music is a universal language! (Watch "Close Encounters..." some time)
Not all languages are suited to Rock ‘n’ Roll but Japanese sounds great.
I knew a guy who spoke good Japanese but had learned it from a woman. Japanese people used to tease him because he spoke with that kind of breathy subservient tone Japanese girls used to speak with.
These girls do NOT use the breathy subservient tone that Japanese girls used to be use.
These ladies are fire! Hard Rock masterfully fused with many other genre's... Maybe try something live next, as this is where these ladies excel. Thank you for the reaction. 🔥🖤

*Play* taken from a 2018 concert was the first Band Maid Song I heard - and my faith in Rock was instantly renewed. Although their earlier songs were written by the studio, ever since *ALONE* the band have written their own. Kanami is a Riff genius and Miku a lyricist poet. I'd like to recommend a song but there are so many to choose from and none to avoid so I wouldn't know where to start. Also look up Band Maiko - which started out as an April Fools joke in 2018 for their followers - and look up Cluppo a recent project of Miku - Rhythm Guitar and Singer which also came out on April 1st - 2021.
This song really emanate some nostalgic vibes.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. As always Kanami (lead guitar) writes the basic music, sending it to Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) via the internet. They create their bass and drum lines, which stay pretty much the same through the process. Kanami works with Miku for the rhythm guitar lines. Miku (and now with Saiki) writes the lyrics after the music is complete. All of this is from a number of interviews by them as a group and individually. It's finished in the studio with Saiki having the "We're Done" call.
They have been touring the UK since 2015/16 plus Europe.
No matter how good you think you play a musical instrument, there is a Japanese lady who plays it better. (stolen/paraphrased).
2 suggestions, "Domination" live Band Maid and "Dissension" by Nemophila a new band considered a super group as all are from other bands.
They have more going on the more you listen to the same song. Many layers. I have heard this song probably 40 times since I found Band-Maid in Feb 2020 and heard new gems on this reaction. I love this song because for as heavy and intricate the bass and guitar is during the verses, the song is an early 00's pop-punk song at its heart. The chorus and bridge are something you'd hear in 2001 but the song is heavier and more nuanced than anything you would have ever heard at that time, especially for a genre and time where instrumentation was typically very straight forward and simple. As someone who loves pop-punk, this song also proves pop-punk doesn't have to be simple to be fun. As long as you keep the energy and spirit of the genre, you can create something far more than expected or what appears at the surface level.

Raised by the company, the company provides songs, the company trains, the company promotes, the company collaborates with each media, many companies co-sponsor, many concerts at the large capacity Nippon Budokan or some Arena There are several groups that do. BABYMETAL is one of them.

I think the appeal of BAND-MAID is all about live performances. In the studio take, the song is playful and gives a slightly excessive impression, but in the live, it is tight and clear, the members are tense with each other's techniques, yet relaxed, and it is wonderful to wrap the audience with happiness It creates a sound space.
I also think BAND-MAID is currently the best live band.

One of my favorite Japanese bands is Nemophila. I would place them somewhere between Band-maid and Lovebites....roughly, but here's the bit you might like. They have a LOT of live in studio videos of covers of songs that they just happen to like. They have serious chops.
Personally I love their original music. Fighter is my favorite.

Miku Kobato - mee-KOO - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine.
Kanami Tono - kah-NAH-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger.
Akane Hirose - ah-KAH-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have.
MISA - MEE-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work.
Saiki Atsumi - SAH-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl.
Something more in the vein of punk/rock/punk give Blooming a go. It might be even more in your wheelhouse. As always executed with stellar musicianship.

Have been listening to Deep Purple coz of my dad😅 so thats why im used to rock genre..im a bit metal head for years but yeah i just need to slow down a bit tho.. I'm still young 35 indeed..but need to slow down a bit since my ear need to hear some melodic riff ..but now that i stumbled upon Band-Maid in 2016 but 2018 makes me falls in love with their musicianship..makes me happy..

Hey guys. Glad you got to this band! It's nice to see honest reactors.
As you've heard, Band-Maid isn't metal. What they offer is catchy rock music that features surprising depth and creativity. This song sounds pretty straightforward, and it's meant to, but it also gives a taste of the intricacies they fit into their songwriting: starting the song with a bass solo, the change-up in the first verse, different riff in the second verse, and then replacing the second half of the second verse with a bass and guitar part.
You guys kept saying it's more rock, not metal but you were also saying that Lovebites is too much but you seemed to be wishing this song featured some double kick? I'm very confused 😆. Normally I find it easy to give a suggestion or three, but honestly this video left me not really sure what you're looking for.
I think I'm going to suggest "Real Existence (Official Live Video)" for something heavier but hopefully not "too much". They have a music video of the song but I think it sounds a lot better live. I hope you guys continue to explore the band!

Band-Maid is a predominately rock band, but they have an open relationship with several other genres. The drummer definitely flirts with the metal genre, she spices it up with some tasteful double pedals here and there. Sometimes she even goes on a longer double bass drum action. Highly versatile band. Some recommendation:
- Domination Official Live. One of their most iconic live performances. Generally, if you want to react to a song of theirs, go for the official live versions. Very high production value.
- Rinne. The closest they get to metal. Heavy and groovy
- Onset Official Live. An instrumental and this is often the song which impresses people the most, because it is so captivating.
- Daydreaming. A great ballad.
- Play Official Live. Another great live performance by the band.
- Thrill Official Live. This was the song that saved their career. Their MV was an instant hit on youtube. This is the live performance, and as I've already said, live is better :)

We are very new to reacting and our own musical tastes are very different to each others as well as some of the Bands and Artists that we have reacted to.
We have already enjoyed a variety of styles and genres, (we tend to say that a lot) but we are not trying to put any one in a box or label them, but at the same time, we are trying to get an idea of what style of music the Band will play.
We only react to songs we have never heard and the reaction is a one-take and no preview, what we say is what we are thinking at the time and what comes out may not always be totally accurate.
In other words, we have no idea what we are doing, but we are having fun.
We will look forward to doing an "Official Live" reaction next and we have already received many very helpful comments on what we should react to.

Hmm 🤔 I wonder why they recommended DICE when Band-Maid have quite a few “softer” songs to get you initiated. But DICE intensity is probably a good representation of the average intensity of Band-Maid songs.
The videos from “Different” onwards have English captions, but i highly recommend “Daydreaming” if you want to see what they can do with “slow / soft” songs.

Hey guys, enjoyed your reaction. I would suggest you give one of their live performances a try next as they really shine live. I would suggest Domination (Live) or Freedom (Live) for more rock. If you want a ballad, you could do Wonderland (Live) or About Us (live). All videos I suggested can be found on their official website. About us is CC. (If you want a harder song Subtitled, the newer song Manners (MV) is CC.)

Alright Guys, good first time reaction. Band-maid does it all. Best rhythm section going. For more proof check out the Official Live Videos - Onset(instrumental), Domination, Freedom, Play. MV's Rinne, Warning, Bubble (video tribute to Freddie Mercury). Power ballad=Daydreaming. Don't stop till you get enough.

As others have said, Live clips is where it's at with Band-Maid. They are honestly phenomenal and (for some reasons) infectiously happy during their concerts :) "Freedom (Live)" is probably more up your alley, musically speaking ( th-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/w-d-xo.html )
If you feel like you need some mellower music, Check out the band "Glim Spanky" (I think their latest clip is "Circle of Time" live - th-cam.com/video/ogEa9Z3V1lE/w-d-xo.html ). They are generally classified as "Stoner rock" (citing The Beatles as one of their main influence btw) and the singer, Remi Matsuo, has a very unique voice, or the band "Polka Dot Stingray" which is definitely pop'ier with some nice jazz'y influences ( th-cam.com/video/hTlsNbmmPKE/w-d-xo.html )
Guys you wanna listen to Freedom live. And the video Thrill. Then you will see how cohesive they are. And you listen hard enough it's oh those notes sound this or them give them a chance they have like 4-5 albums. Jimmy Page was at Freedom concert and asked to meet drummer. He did and was heard saying she is one of the best drummers he heard in for ever. Also made comment she's the reincarnation of John Bonham of Led Zeppelin

Well done guys from a fellow Brit. Next one check out "*Domination" live, they excel on the live stage, follow that by their latest ones "Manners" MV and "Warning" MV. (CC on these ones) This is a multi-genre Hard Rock band who like to experiment with their sound, they don't do samey or bad as you'll see if you do more, and as you said it's right in your comfort zone
*FYI if you watch a live and they stand in front of the drummer they're not having a chat they're making faces at her trying to put her off!

We have heard from another comment about the face-pulling, we will keep an eye out for that.
Also, we have checked out a lot of "Metal" bands and although it's not our cup of tea we give them an honest reaction, we would say "Rock to Heavy Rock" is where we are more comfortable, so it will be interesting to see where Band-Maid take us.

As no one else have done this i will say it first :) there videos are good, but most people will say that you should try there live stuff instead it is usually better, they have a few live ones on there official youtube page and there new videos are also there, they have one video where i never found a live version thats better its called blooming have fun :)
btw i agree the dice video is a good place too start with them
