I love watching international basketball. You see players like Zubac and Saric have different roles. Like they're a BIG part of the Croatian team. The point is to see guys that I don't see in the NBA with "main" roles and how good they are with limited restrictions.

I moved to Orlando Fl in the 90s and one of my close friends lived next door to Nick Calathes. I used to play basketball with Nick when he was 5 or 6. Nick would cry if u blocked his shot. Nick went on to destroy every record in our high school.

papagiannis had a phenomenal game. I think he should think about switching to power-forward. Coupled with a very athletic center, it could be a lethal combination.

Watching these games it really looks like a lot more of these guys could be in the NBA.
Of course but NBA way of play is different and European play rrlies on system , and automations and defence, whereas in NBA they try to destroy the defence and only rely on how players run ok empty space without defence. Which does not only produce worse basketball imo but it leads to European players requiring around 2-2.5 years to adapt to such changes of game, and then European players many times dont want to put 2-2.5 years to wait before they are part pf this type of game so they leave NBA.
In some ways Euro basketball is more advanced.
This is also why European passers in last 2 decades (I will not compare to NBA of 80s ) are better and they appear eveb better when they go to NBA.
you are tight but they would be 10-15min players , and most of them want to play their best years , so they stay in europe , others prefer to be in the nba to belong to the best of the best , and stay on the bench

@@katireei7761 Greece lacks paint defense and their team seems to rely on two or three players.
@@Veronikas_K45 greece is very good at defense even though they are lacking some heavy bodies, essentially there is not a pure 5 on the Greek roster, only big 4s, but containing Slovenia and Doncic to 58 points and Croatia with Zubac, Saric and Hesonia to 69 shows to anyone who understands the game of basketball that their defense is still solid and their team work when they defend is great.

Giannis icing a game with a 3 isn’t something I’d expect. His jumper from the elbow looks clean too. Giannis with an average jumpshot is lethal.

Spain is very hard team to beat because they play very good aggressive team defence, and play fast offense. It would be hard game.
But hardest game would be after US, France. And Serbia.

The Croatian coach chose to stay in and close the racket in Gianni's efforts. However, this defense zone is applied to small teams that have one player and the rest are backups. Greece has 9 players from the teams that played in the final four and 5 European champions with Panathinaikos. Where are you going, poor thing... you didn't know, didn't you ask?

@@stelios65100 i mean greece shot >50% from 3 for most of the game and no adjustments...one action that stands out is calates and i think papagiannis where they basically were passing ball from the 3 to the key and then back to calates for an open 3 with zero croatian defenders running to close either one...just confusing tbh...

Is it me or Giannis looks off not his usual self looks like he's a little injured.
He is recovering from an injury, he has to be careful.
The answer is yes and there are 2 main reasons for that.
1st he is recovering from an injury.
And 2nd is the way that defence is played in the fiba stage. Notice how Croatian defence just waits under the basket because there are no defensive 3 second rule. They did that the entire game, closing any possible space for Giannis to do his thing, so he had to settle for midrange shots or pass the ball to an open teamate.
He's got healthy but he hadn't been doing any cardio for 2 months because of his leg.
No he plays very well but this is euro basketball and there is little space plus players follow team plan.
Role of Giannis ans Papagiannis was to be costant threat in the rim so that Croatia players invest to guard the rim and so there is more space to others players to shoot.
This was main role of Giannis and Papagiannis.
Papagiannis would also shoot from perimeter but that is secondary role in the game. Primary is to be threat in the rim so that other teams arranges to put many defenders around the rim.

tall euro guys are late bloomers ,, we in greece were laughing when he went to the nba , much slower heavier , not refined shooting , he is miles better now than in the kings era , and the 3pt shot very consistent ,if he had a sold post play he d be in the nba wit good contract
