I'm not massively into the super detailed comparison videos you do because I prefer a demo of a synth that inspires. This definitely does that. A really fantastic demo that shows exactly what the 2600 can do. You've got a strong following so you certainly don't need any advice from me but I really wish you'd put out more videos like this, which show off a synth's capabilities as an instrument, rather than being exhaustive technical examinations or comparisons. This is the first video of yours I've watched all the way through and I've done so because it's absolutely awesome. Like I say, I really wish you'd do more.

Nice choice of sounds, well done! I've read so much bad comments about Behringer... But when I hear what a B2600 can do, I know that I must trust my ears and not my eyes :-)
Just bought the Behringer 'cover' of the Roland VP-330 (the VC-340). Solidly built, well calibrated... and after playing it for a bit, I would say that it is absolutely a legitimate musical instrument. While I don't normally condone design appropriation, what Behringer is doing here is somewhat different: They are creating a useful, accessible version of an analogue synthesizer that is no longer available, or wildly expensive to purchase used. Bravo to them for doing so.
@@squirrelvalhalla9386 That's right, they are making a good job. The VP-330, if you close your eyes, you're sure to listen to a true VC-340. Of course it is a very simple synth but they mimicked very well the feeling of this old machine.
I ended up getting the Marvin, 2nd hand. I just had to be patient. Such a compelling joy ! One of the synth I craved for decades. I don't care if it's 100% clone accurate : I'm having fun modulating endless drones.
This is simply stunning! Utterly f#*@ing GORGEOUS! I might need to see if I can reserve a second one just to attempt to do something even half as good as this, nice work!
Fanf***intastic, really. I struggled to get something vaguely musical out of my blue marvin, it always ends up being rather experimental, which is fun, but rarely useful. This gives me new hope to actually be able to utilize it in tracks... Thanks Starsky!
The raw sound is so powerful. I’ve got some nice dirty experimental sounding but useful stuff - see my ring mod video or the Instagram short. But I find that keeping it simple to start always ends up with lovely tones. They look complex but are actually quite basic (mostly!)

They used it on a few guitar parts for Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals album! Specifically the guitar solo of Coma White! They used the filter and gave it this crazy sweep! Always wondered what else was happening in that tone haha But that totally blew my mind! Just another reason this thing is a beast!
All 3 were great - Sasha & Digweed were combining and creating genres for everyone else to follow really. I wasn't producing back then, but they're still an influence now. Thanks for the 2600 vids - really inspiring. I just put a TD-3 through the 2600 into a Timeline. The results were.....interesting, :D

@Starsky Carr: I´m torn between the simple B2600 (I like the LED color coding) and the "limited" editions. Ideally, I´d get a grey meanie with the christmas tree LEDs. Don´t give too much about the filter section differences, as they are super subtle, but the reverb, the reverb. I don´t even know which one I like better, digital or spring, so I have two questions: a) Can I swap LEDs between the models? b) Can I fully bypass the internal reverb unit (not just mix wet to 0%) so it doesn´t matter which model I pick? Thanks in advance!
You might be able to swap the LEDs but its beyond my abilities - I think its safer to say mono to that one, and the reverb is always there creating some minor noise in the background of the limited editions.

Just using logic. The trick is to create a track with max 2 notes, the upper always being assigned to the same oscillator in the synth itself. You can then have. 2 note chord and a melody - or a 2 note chord with a bass etc.

Relative n00b to the modular synth universe here - are all the tracks finished entirely via DAW? No live note or arpeggios? Or are you doing some live playing beyond the visual adjustments on the 2 Blue's? I'm a highly improvisational guitarist that may need to make a change owing to a wrist issue, but I'm not looking to master a software platform in addition to modular synthesis - hoping to find a way to do pickup jams without having to write, sequence and perform whole songs before being able to use the 2 2600s I own.
This is simply 2 MIDI parts (each playing up to 2 notes simultaneously). The synths are set up in duophonic mode (and I think on one track the higher note is shared by both synths). Nothing else. Just live tweaking, all recorded live with a couple of cameras. I can’t remember if I put some additional FX on one of these to demo how it sounds with a bit of extra stuff. If I did I will mention it in the on screen descriptions. No extra playing though. 😀
Im sending 2 notes to each synth. The left has the bass and the arpeggio. The right has a 2 note chord. I have 4 tracks in total .. 2 for each synth, routed to the 2 MIDI outs.

I’m sending a single MIDI CHANNEl to each synth. There is a duo mode which allows you to patch the top note wherever you like. So you could patch to the mult and have 2 osc driven by the top note, or as I’ve done here patch osc 3 to the top note. Unlike most duophonic synths you have to actually patch the output of the top MIDI note. I suppose that’s because all others I can think of only have 2 oscillators.

Have you had any trouble with hiss on the spring reverb? I find that after mine powers up, I can hear a high pitched hiss that's somewhere between 3.5khz-5khz or so. Been trying to figure out if this is just something you have to work with, a ground loop problem (tried on different outlets all throughout the house, so don't think that's the case), or if this was actually an issue on the original (never used one so I wouldn't know)
It’s definitely more noises than the black and orange and there is a hiss from the spring reverb if you turn it up. I found it doesnt impact in the sounds once playing, but it’s there. But as I say it’s not something I noticed until doing a thorough check. Normally it wouldn’t bother me - so maybe yours is more noticeable?
@@StarskyCarr Yeah I'm trying to figure out if mine is unusually loud or not. I've been having to cut a lot of the frequencies from the reverb independently when I'm using a more plucky sound with most of the higher frequencies filtered when it isn't overdriven/saturated with the preamp.
Hey starsky, would it be wise to do this same thing with the regular B2600 and one of the limited edition ones with the spring reverb together? Would the differing reverbs make a huge difference that would cause a sonic clash between the two you think?
I’m sequencing using Logic. Just 2 tracks of MIDI. The duo mode allows for 2 notes per synth so there’s up to 4 ‘lines’ playing at one time. Pretty cool what can be achieved with just 2 synths :)

When you brought in the second synth I stopped caring about what synth you were using and just sat back and listen to the music. Very nice.

Dude a 4-6 voice 2600 would be nuts. Lots to keep track of though. You'd need a way to adjust multiple parameters at once

If duo mode isn’t engaged all osc are driven by the same midi note.

Hey starsky, would it be wise to do this same thing with the regular B2600 and one of the limited edition ones with the spring reverb together? Would the differing reverbs make a huge difference that would cause a sonic clash between the two you think?

amazing. are these sequences all coming from the 2600? or are you using some external sequencer?
I’m sequencing using Logic. Just 2 tracks of MIDI. The duo mode allows for 2 notes per synth so there’s up to 4 ‘lines’ playing at one time. Pretty cool what can be achieved with just 2 synths :)

Yes. Only the synths are from this.
Do you have 2 separate stacked sequences going..1 per 2600?
I don’t think so. I seem to recall it was a single sequence that was shared using CV. The whole point being to use them as a single system.
