Diana wins all her competitions except one - She didn't make it past the audition round of Voice Children Russia - I know such a joke and if you saw the video you'd see what I mean. Her only obstacle is she won't get out of Russia and her handlers limited vision for her. She's a treasure and the horde her. Let me add to your reaction and analysis that Diana is performing a folk song, and such a performance implies respect for the traditional canon. And in this performance, Diana does a number of things that are unconventional for the traditional song and, in particular, uses a technique close to yodeling to convey crying. This is so unexpected and revolutionary - because there is no anything like this in the Russian tradition, and at the same time it is absolutely convincing that the judges seem to be spellbound and think that they are dreaming... and return to reality (and hit the buttons) only when this part of the song completed.
The thing that keeps coming to my mind is not the yodels, or that they were repeated consistently but the last one was whilst she was being lifted into the boat. That's skill. She is a performer and stage animal.

Since a much shortened version was made for the modern stage, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

The true miracle is that Diana's survived her first 3 years of life. Her biological "mother" tried to kill her by drowning her in a bathtub. She'd beaten her regularly and eventually she left Diana on the street in the middle of winter with broken bones. Diana was taken to an orphanage after that. She and the other orphanage kids regularly visited a recreational/recovery facility where Diana met her real mother and was adopted by her. As Diana had severe speech impediment at that time the doctors recommended singing lessons. What you hear and is the result of all that history.

If you read the translation i have on the literal video you would have understood more. The girl is an orphan that is forced in to a marriage in an unknown family and as the guests fill her house she feels empty inside so she goes to the river which is considered the gate between the living world and the underworld. There she comes in contact with the spirit of the river or the spirit of her dead mother depends on the interpretation of the song which asks her why is she not smiling. Then she proceeds to tell her story and how she has no one to bless her for her marriage, after that she gets in to the boat and sails away. This might have different meanings according to interpretation or the different versions of the song, it might be that she escaped her forced marriage with the help f the river or it might be implying her ending her life. This is another masterful performance of the single greatest female vocalist of today and of course this is not a lucky happenstance, all her performances are out of this world the girl just casually hits one masterpiece after the other and puts to shame seasoned artists with decades of experience. The fact is that this is a ritual song, moreover, relating to a specific part of the old Russian way of life - a wedding, or rather the so-called "pitying weeping" of the bride, one of its varieties, i.e. "orphan bride" The “crying” of the bride in wedding songs is a ritual associated with her transition to someone else’s family, which is metaphorically associated with death (she seems to “die” for her family of origin). I'll try to explain. This is a very ancient song dating back to pre-Christian times. According to ancient traditions, parents bless the newlyweds for the wedding. But an orphan has no parents, and an orphan can ask for blessings from one or another force of nature. In this case, the river acts as a force of nature. And there is another meaning here. The river in the ancient understanding symbolized human life. It starts with a small stream and eventually flows into the sea, where all the rivers flow. This performance, one of 7 she did during the "You Are Super" competitions at ages 14-15, is among the finest I have ever seen from someone so young. The true miracle is that Diana's survived her first 3 years of life. Her biological "mother" tried to kill her by drowning her in a bathtub. She'd beaten her regularly and eventually she left Diana on the street in the middle of winter with broken bones.
Diana was taken to an orphanage after that. She and the other orphanage kids regularly visited a recreational/recovery facility where Diana met her real mother and was adopted by her.
As Diana had severe speech impediment at that time the doctors recommended singing lessons.

Diana's biological mother who was an alcoholic and abused drugs and mentally, physically abused her. Now onto Diana’s performance of Rechenka. Rechenka is a Russian folk song that she sings in her native Russian, and was recorded on the 12th of May 2018, when Diana was only 14 years old and a contestant on a Russian vocal competition called “You Are Super”. Diana’s performance had many vocal professionals already speculating on her voice type because she was already showing a low, deep, rich and resonant sound, and her stage presence was well beyond what the majority of 14 year old girls were capable of.
During this May 12th 2018 performance of Rechenka, people were curious and asking questions about Diana’s low voice. The tone, the deep and resonant quality of her voice had many asking about her vocal range, so I found the following information: the year before the “You Are Super” competition, in 2017 at age 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, which puts her firmly as an Alto voice type, and this first vocal measurement was taken when she competed on the “The Voice Kids Russia”. This first vocal range measurement of Diana was low for a 13 year old girl. She did not have her vocal range checked again until 5 years later with her appearance on a 9 week vocal competition called “ShowMaskGoOn” that premiered on September 25, 2021.
Now, back to 2018 and Diana’s “You Are Super”, “Rechenka” performance. During this performance her voice is noticeably deep, round, full, resonant, and dark, with a maturity, and a tone quality that is well beyond her years. This had many vocal professionals speculating that based on this performance, along with video taped concert performances that Diana Ankudinova could be a true Contralto voice type in the making, and a true Contralto voice type is very, very rare. She also has exceptional tone quality, and amazing breath control for a 14 year old. Her musicality was noticed by many stage performance professionals. Questions were being asked, and one of the most asked questions was, how does she do it? Is it a trick of some kind? How can such a young female singer achieve those low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sounds?
Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to actually see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness by vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds, (vocal cords), appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx (voice box) also appears to be larger than the majority of female singers, and her pharynx (throat) similarly appears to be longer and rounder than other female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity, (mouth opening). But there is more that just being born with unique vocal anatomy, Diana knows how to use it. After years of working with her vocal and stage performance coaches, it’s in her musicality and stage presence. It is in her ability to step into a character on stage and assume that character. It’s Diana’s ability to capture an audience, she is not just singing a song, she is communicating with the audience on a personal level.

The girl is an orphan that is forced in to a marriage in an unknown family and as the guests fill her house she feels empty inside so she goes to the river which is considered the gate between the living world and the underworld.
There she comes in contact with the spirit of the river or the spirit of her dead mother depends on the interpretation of the song which asks her why is she not smiling.
Then she proceeds to tell her story and how she has no one to bless her for her marriage, after that she gets in to the boat and sails away.
This might have different meanings according to interpretation or the different versions of the song, it might be that she escaped her forced marriage with the help f the river or it might be implying her ending her life.
This is another masterful performance of the single greatest female vocalist of today and of course this is not a lucky happenstance, all her performances are out of this world the girl just casually hits one masterpiece after the other and puts to shame seasoned artists with decades of experience.
