I just finished my play-through of Indiana Jones and man. It’s hands down the best game I played all year. Hope it sells well because it seriously deserves it.
I don’t think Indy will be nominated for next year since it’s so stacked. Unless there are crazy high profile failures it feels unlikely. It’s a really fun game though and one that team should be really proud of.

I've got a day job and am a filthy casual so I am happy for this option. Maybe someday I'll go back and try those tough fights again.
I love Souls games! But I'm a weirdo who finds the boss battles the least enjoyable parts of Souls games. I love the difficulty, I love the dungeons, the puzzles, the exploration. I don't mind dying over and over. But when I see a fog wall, I usually sigh. I can beat the bosses, but some just become tedious. I get the "dopamine rush after trying a dozen times!" thing, but I also have limited time to play games and sometimes I don't want to re-try the same fight 10 times. I'd never played a Soul-like, got my ass handed to me in Jedi: Fallen Order on Jedi Master🙄Does that even count. But if I can be a crab with a gun, sound awesome!😁
Honestly I find smashing my head against bosses till I have the patterns down and can beat them to be one of the most rewarding experiences in gaming ever. I mean that goes for all boss types of each genre but a souls like really feels like you earned the ability to kick the bosses ass
Veilguard!? I kid. Thanks for the video. Bit impressed by Indiana Jones. Nothing comes to mind for me this year aside from Metaphor, but then again, I am biased. Your Son's GOTY is a quality metric. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I found you this year mort and I will say you are the best reviewer out there. So many youtube reviewers look for any opportunity to bash games because they know negativity sells and so much of the mainstream game. Reviewers like IGN are very hard to take seriously. So you seem like a genuinely honest reviewer that will give a game. It's due and I think you're one of the best. So bravo to all your success and I look forward to continuing to watch all your reviews
I'm typically a year behind and haven't played anything from this year but my favorite game I played this year is Dredge, I only got it a week ago and I have already got both endings and am working on 100% it's hooked me more than anything else I played this year.
Just wanted to give what's becoming the annual thanks for the recommendations. Really, you've turned me on to Owlcat Games and they've quickly become one of my favorite gaming devs. Keep up with burning the midnight oil!
If you've got a 12 or under kid, Sand Land is a good bet. I had a blast with my son and passed it on to my nephew who is currently engrossed in the game.
I myself have taken a break after my second playthrough of Veilguard to jump into Indiana Jones and even though it’s really early, it’s been a lot of fun!
I always enjoy hearing your thoughts and perspective, but my favorite part of this particular video is hearing you talk about sharing a gaming experience with your son. I have three kids, the youngest is now a senior in high school, and some of my favorite memories involve introducing them to gaming (or other geek interests).
Thank you for all of the videos this year! I enjoyed Veilguard a lot as well. I will be back next year to continue asking you to play Crosscode. Please play Crosscode. Thank you!
I really thought my game of the year was over, easily astrobot getting the award. However this weekend Indiana Jones is feeling like it might take astrobat's place as my game of the year.
The number of different personal lists of people's GOTY in the comments just goes to show that game awards will never make everyone happy and people will always hate when they don't agree
Out of curiosity looked through the list of games released in 2024, the only games released this year that I actually played: V Rising, to play with friends in coop, was fun few weeks. Wuthering Waves, F2P so tried it out, quit after couple weeks. Zenless Zone Zero, F2P so tried it out, actually still playing. Dungeons of Hinterberg, gamepass (got couple free months) and randomly tried, was ok. Flintlock, gamepass, bounced off fast. Mostly played older games, so if I had to pick a GotY, by process of elimination it would have to be either V Rising or ZZZ. Considering I wouldn't even have played V Rising if I didn't play it with friends, I guess I have to give 2024 GotY to ZZZ, as crazy as it is. Playing games 1+ years behind is just so much better experience, cheaper, feature complete and fixed games.
I don't think or know if this is better than the actual Game Awards, since at the end of the day it is all mostly subjective, but I will say the video is quicker/snappier than the actual awards so that's a plus.
I mostly chipped away at my backlog so some of my favorites this year were: Dark Souls 3, Lies of P, X-COM: Enemy Uknown, Children of Morta, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dodgeball Academia, and Fallout: New Vegas. Gonna try to finish up Divinity: Original Sin 2 before New Year's, I beat the first at like 4am on Jan 1st lol.
The only awards i needed to see. I didnt play to many new games this year so ill just go with Metaphor Refantazio as my favorite. Anothers Crab Treasure i played because of your review and the story really hits a high note towards the end. I was completely sold on Kril when he gives his big speech. My favorite part was when i got to the final boss and had enough with the second phase and shot him. I felt i had a very satisfying experience
enshrouded update frequency really makes me hopeful for its future , they had some good ideas and i think they will be one of the best in the co op survival genre , games like valheim and project zomboid are great in their own ways but they take so long to make any simple changes , but Vintage story and enshrouded developers are the best ones at releasing large chunks of content at a good frequency in the survival genre , they made their own engine with some really cool tech no one else has
Indiana Jones was also the best game I've played this year. It's just so much more game than I think we were all expecting, and I'd say it's the best Indiana Jones story after Raiders of the Lost Ark. They could have played it safe, but instead they made a first person Indiana Jones immersive sim that I couldn't put down. It was a significant and pleasant surprise.
You having a "my son's pick" is awesome! I've never even seen the Metal Slug tactics game, gotta give it a run after what you showed! Lastly i hate vailguard with a passion, but i hope you know that we don't blame you for giving your honest opinion and hold no grudge
Lovely to see Another's Crab Treasure mentioned here. It actually may be my own GOTY, story hit more strings than anything else, soundtrack was a banger, and hey, I actually used the gun on the very end boss even if I didn't on the ones before him as it felt thematic as hell.
Sandland getting your son's attention is a testament to Toriyama's art style/work just attracting teenagers and kids easily! Kudos to you and here's to one more year of watching you review games!
If Indie came out a month or two earlier I think it would have been a lot more people's GoTY as well! Great video - I am going to have to try Another Crabs Treasure now
Wonderful work as always, Mort, really appreciate your unique approach to GOTY with highlighting different genres. Amazing GOTY pick, too, I've loved what I've played thus far.
This channel and the previous retrospective reviews on Dragon Age titles let me enjoy Veilguard a lot more (that and it’s an available for a low entry price on the EA pro pass). It is nothing like Origins, but neither was DA2 or DA:I. In comparison to DA:I, the gameplay no longer feels trapped between a wannabe CRPG lite and an action game, it’s now more a Mass Effect action system and works decently well with gear/skill tree modifiers. It skips a lot of the pain and is a more modern DA:I experience. I can’t say much on the story/overall world, as I felt it was most compelling and mysterious in DAO and by DA:I was just heroes saving the world, and Veilguard is more of that aspect too, but for where the direction the series has gone it feels like a more streamlined DA:I. As for losing the series as a successor to the great CRPGs, with games like BG3 there is no longer a vacuum that the franchise needs to fill. They’ve decided against it for 3 titles and it’s time to let go and enjoy the other great CRPGs.
Situation around veilguard still confuse me. My YT feed was bombarded with vidoes threating VG like it was crime against humanity ( Asomongold and Angry Joe for example ). But steam reviewies are generaly positive, and daily player count is still substantial.
@@ComissarYarrick I 100% can see why there is some criticism. Even though I loved the game in the end I too didn´t like certain aspects that much, but people were massively overreacting. I saw video titles like "Veilguard is rotten to its core" " the biggest flop in gaming history" I mean cmon.... xD
@@martinpavlak7052 Some criticism is 100% perfectly understandable. Even in games that I love to death there are some places, mechanics, characters or locations I can point out and say "this should be done so much better". But for VG people seems to overwhelmingly either be in "I like it but not love it" and "I bloody hate it" camps. And I'm not helped by the fact I didn't (yet, they all are on my to play list for a looooooong time 😅) play any of the Dragon Age games, and don't get any of lore-related terminology both side throw around :P .
Thanks as Always! Metal Slug Tactics😀I didn't see that coming. TBW was the first tactical game I've ever played and it's one of my favorites of 2024. I still have the Metal Slug demo, I'll check it out right now! I am tempted to pick-up Crab's Treasure - you have heaped such praise on it AND I can use a gun. Here everyone; have a can of worms to open: Exactly how does one find an entry point to the Warhammer (video game) Universe? Specifically on the RPG, RTS, non-hack-and-slash side of things?
Interested list indeed, thank you for different type of content on this channel. My game of the year is SH2R, but I definitely enjoyed some other titles like BMW, Ys, LAD, UO, ELSoTE, and even games that I had not opportunity to play before like Marvel's MS, damn this game was surprisingly fun. Oh yeah and PoE2 delivered it as well.
So glad that you stay true to yourself and be honest about what you like in the many game reviews you made 😊 you will always have much respect. your kid(s) are lucky to have such a great role model in this aspect. they would take from you learning to form their own opinion from their own experience and not becoming a faker or having a sheep mentality only saying whatever the herd says.
I notice you don't have a metroidvania category, Nine Sols is a game that released back in May, which whilst doing very well I personally didn't see a lot of mainstream coverage of. Highly recommend it and would like to see a review if you think its your cup of tea
I dont think i played a single new game this year, the closest was BG3 that i pocked up in the spring. That being said, i just picked up this gane you may not have heard of called Pathfinder Wotr. I just completed act 1. Bg3 and Wotr do really good jobs of encapsulating what i love and what iritates me about those games as a long time ttrpg player. Thanks for the rec. Lol
Any games you would recommend that didn't get the attention that they deserved? And any interesting games that did something unique and were notable. They don't have to be a good game, but they took a risk and did something unique and different.
Knock on the Coffin Lid took the roguelike card battler concept and put a full world-building, storyline, and psuedo-RPG on top, and it's amazing but flew under a lot of people's radars.
I love the category you made for your son lol that's adorable. I can't get my son to play anything besides Bugsnax so that's my winner for the category despite it being a 2020 game
Seeing your "Soulslike" category made me remember the only Soulslike I have liked so far. Which is the Surge series (meaning: Surge 1 & 2). I don't think you have reviewed these, have you? These are the Gamed Deck13 did before Atlas Fallen. As someone who loved the ancient stuff of Deck13, the point & click adventures from around 2005 (Ankh & Jack Keane), I was really surprised that they have grown so much. Might be a nice review title if the coming year lacks new releases.
It's kind of a bummer, I got like 4 hours into The Great Circle and the game bugged out leaving it unplayable, and the nearest rollback save is like 3 hours earlier for some reason. I don't even wanna play it anymore. Which sucks because it was cool.
My favorite Indie game of the year and actually my favorite game of the year outright was UFO 50. I'm glad it got nominated for Indie game of the year at the game awards but I can't help but feel that the game deserved more attention than it got.
"Hit the dislike button, I get paid for that too" lol what a wrap up!
It's not quite as funny as YourCalvinist's, "If you don't, hit the dislike button....twice." But it's close.

Even though your choices differ from mine, I thank you for your video and opinion! :)
I thought people didn't consider Black Myth Wukong to be a "Souls-like?"
Every time I called it that, I was promptly corrected 😅
Its definitely a souls-like to anyone with eyes
Who saw Indiana Jones coming..?! 😮
Been looking forward to this list - can't believe I missed it. Thank YT ! But better late than never I guess
Great picks! Loved the GOTY choice!
I notice you don't have a metroidvania category, Nine Sols is a game that released back in May, which whilst doing very well I personally didn't see a lot of mainstream coverage of.
Highly recommend it and would like to see a review if you think its your cup of tea
Awesome man! Love the picks! Yet to play Indiana jones and wukong…will get those next.
Love the videos as always Mort! Looking forward to the full ranking! :)
Honestly best award show this week. Now all this needs is a three-minute speech from Swen and it’s perfect.
Hopefully Indy doesn't get forgotten at next year's Game Awards.
Black Myth Wukong is a good game ruined for me by horrible performance on PS5.
Lol
lol he has dozens of videos about WOTR 😂
Thanks for this. It's a welcome alternative over a recent awards show. All the best!
Wow those blackmyth clips are amazing looking
Any games you would recommend that didn't get the attention that they deserved? And any interesting games that did something unique and were notable. They don't have to be a good game, but they took a risk and did something unique and different.
Something unique: Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final cut
Not enough attention: Godfall
Taking a risk: Enderal: Forgotten stories
Knock on the Coffin Lid took the roguelike card battler concept and put a full world-building, storyline, and psuedo-RPG on top, and it's amazing but flew under a lot of people's radars.
My GOTY Silent Hill 2 remake. The game that's not a remake I would say none of them blew me away.
I love the category you made for your son lol that's adorable. I can't get my son to play anything besides Bugsnax so that's my winner for the category despite it being a 2020 game
Now that I think about it my kid did 100% Astro Bot, but then it was immediately back to Bugsnax lol
I really need to play Indy and Rogue trader
Ah, the only awards that matter
Indy as GOTY? hmm, I didn't expect that but cool list anyway
Mine was Helldivers II for sure, and I don't normally like shooter games anymore.
Thank you for the great job thos year. Happy holidays
It's not even close - the great circle is the best game this year.
Indy is absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Have you played unicorn overlord? My personal goty
Yesh Indiana Jones is my GOTY as well. Was not expcting that.
The Indy game is an immersive sim! What a surprise! It’s actually good haha
I love how much you love another crabs treasure! Any chance you get to talk about it it seems you take advantage of
Awesome picks of games you have man, you really had a good year for you channel as well, keep it going dudes!!
Much love and here's to another year of wandering in wisdom
Agreed that Great Circle has been a pleasant surprise. Def one of my favorites along with Balatro and some sports games.
When you were revealing best indie game I was thinking you might say Indiana Jones as a joke.
That one is probably going to stick around longer than a lot of games
Your son has good tastes ! Sandland was great, it kinda flew under the radar, but it is a pretty good experience overall. Absolutely recommand it !
