great video! I replaced my 2010 STS RF door housing assembly and door handel. unfortunately my door will not open from the outside, so I'm looking at the door assembly latch now as my next step...
Good tutorial - really helped!
Prior to all of this, try spraying electrical contact cleaner into the area of the micro switches then gently spray compressed air to dry the area. I've found these switches get dirty over time and lose contact. If this fails, have fun and start disassembly.
Look closer at the switches. There are no contacts exposed to the elements. They are a weather sealed micro switches that are depressed by the handle moving across them. The reason getting them wet makes them start working (with water, WD-40, contact cleaner, etc) is because those switches have likely had their weather seals torn and adding liquids to them makes them short out (AKA close the circuit) which makes the door open. Good if you are in a pinch, but if going through car washes and rainy days makes the doors work, then you likely need new switches due to the bad seals.

I have an 05 STS that has intermittent issues not opening. It's the driver's door. It opens fine until a hot day then it won't work but that evening when it cools down it works again. This has been happening for a couple of years now. Furthermore, I noticed this year from last, the key no longer works opening up the driver's door. Last year, it would open the door now it will not. It does not work even when it's not hot out, and the door unlocks properly with the remote the key still does not work. I tried the second key same thing.
I found micro switches you told us about, and they are still for sale, so I've ordered some of those but I was hoping you could let me know what you think about my situation?
Did you ever get an answer to the tumbler/keyed lock and the key no longer working? The exact same thing happen to mine. The funny thing is the tumbler itself is not controlled by electrical so I don't understand why it stoped working. Side note I also tried my second key to no avail.
Hi both my front doors won’t open from outside drivers door went first then passenger a couple months later. If micro switches my problem why did you go through taking all that apart instead of just buying the harness and plugging in new switches already in clip? Or can you not get to the clip to plug in new one without taking door handle off car?
Hello, as of the making of that video (and probably now too), you cannot buy the harness separately, only whole handle assembly.
What is the part number for the whole replacement housing with new micro-switches attached?

My doors only sometimes work correctly. Most of the time I have to use the key to open the driver door. With just that little bit of information can you tell me anything that will help me diagnose the problem?
No, you need to tell me more. Do the door handles always work when they get wet? Or if you spray WD-40 in there?

No, the STS and CTS use different door handle systems and parts.

@@WilliamGreenlee was wondering how to fix the dome light on passenger front door, when i open the door dome light is not working, but give it a few seconds and it will come on, but door opens fine from out side handle, all outher doors as soon as you open door dome lights come on, just not on passenger front door can you help?? Or at least send me in the right direction thank you so much.
After I put the handle back on to the door it is very loose and doesn't pull back to it's original spot after opening what's wrong?
Make sure it is installed in the housing correctly; I show it later in my video.

Do you mean to say that the front doors do not open when you pull the handle? The front doors don't really have a "lock" and "unlock" position. The key is just designed as a fail safe so you can get the door open when the electric handles fail.
@@WilliamGreenlee Correct I thought that when you walk up to the vehicle with the key fob the front door will automatically unlock mine doesn’t so I have to use the key to open it , do you think this is the handle itself or the microswitches ? Or should I just replace both to be safe
@@1Guy1Wrench Again, you cannot use the term "unlock" with the front exterior door handles. They are just switches that open the door when you pull the handle (the whole car can be "unlocked" but the front doors may still not open). The diagnostics is complicated. It depends on your situation. Does the other front door open? When the car is wet, does the door start working?

@@1Guy1Wrench Good luck! Note, that wen the handles are wet, if the switches start working, the switches are bad (: such as when you go through a car wash.
my doors do not open like they should, i have to yse the key for the driver door then manually open the passenger side door from the inside, however whenever i reset the computer system they work keyless like they should for about a day or two after i do it then they stop. do you knoa what this could be from?
Does getting them wet make them work again? Car wash? Rainy day? If so, could point to bad switches.
