I have a tremendous respect for african long-distance runners, and sure they are my inspiration in every training and competition day, THANKS ALOT FOR THIS VIDEOS!!!
@TheRCat meb is actually a midfoot striker but because his cadence is freakishly fast, it appears as if he was heel-striking. His stride frequency is excellent.
@linglingjr If you can run a 5K like that (14:30-15:30) your a damn good runner in your own right. Really puts into perspective how insane the top elites are.
@Brent6434 - When I meant diet, I was referring to American vs East African Diets. My point was that these East African born Americans run well on what looks to be somewhat traditional American Diets so it may not be the massive amounts of ugali and corn porridge that makes East Africans fast.
tempo runs are supposed to be relaxed, he's running 10 miles at a pace he can normally keep for 13 miles, so he's not pushing it too hard (by his standards). It's nonetheless a very important training session for a long distance runner.
But no it isn't. It is actually called Buy "Clear Eyes, Full Heart" on Artist T. Powell I found out by looking where the song name is on every youtube video...
I hope they're specially designed, because those Skechers GOruns look pretty awful for elite runners. (Love the PR jargon all over the shoes too: "Smart Shoe" (for sole), "resalyte" (for random piece of rubber), "vari-lock" (for shoelace hole!).)
i bet you would be hard pressed to find any sort of athlete who engages in their sport with passion and does not injure themselves at some point. i am an avid long distance runner and i have been for many years. i have been faced with injury and i have healed. it is also worth noting that i 23 years old and in the best shape i have ever been in my entire life. no diminished health here due to excessive cardio vascular exercise. your comment was rude, ignorant, and out of place. good day.
I know what a tempo run is supposed to be, I am just saying I can't believe his back is arched like that without being tense. And that my back starts to get pretty tired if I am hitting 5:20s for more than 4 or 5 miles.
your right, all these marathon times shuold be thrown out the window because theyre flat.. infact, we should add hills to tracks to make it tougher! I'm sure you could beat these guys if only there were more hills!...re read what you wrote and see how ridiculous that sounds.. of course flat is faster
@Dashir101 Not only them :P But the majority yeah, it's in the culture of these countries, running villages and stuff for one! And then there's simple genetics, the way their bodies are shaped naturally is good for long distance running. Once they cut their body fat so much it only gets easier surely
keep running, take days off in between runs, make sure to get a bunch of protein for your muscles. if you get split shins, rest for about a week, it always helps to strenghen your legs and calves.
lets add some hills to that route and see how it goes.... what makes a great runner? someone that can run with speed and endurance on any route description. All these super fast marathon times are run on such flat routes.
i guess he heel strikes but his pace is so quick that it doesnt even matter. this beat doesn't fit the footage at all tho. belongs with a montage of rocky protoges working out or something
wouldn't it have been easier to just say interval training? i've been doing "HIIT" my entire career, but never knew it by that name. i just call it working out. it would probably help your argument to know more about the sport you are criticizing. they are great for speed workouts, but you aren't going to get anywhere with improving your vo2 maximum. what do i know? you seem to be the fitness guru here paco.
@lucasboden haha wow u have no idea what a diet is. that's a common mistake but a diet is not someone trying to lose weight you can go on a low carb, calorie, etc diet or you can have a high carb, calorie, etc diet and these guys burn A LOT of calories and a pancake or a steak is what you want to eat after those long runs
Congratulations on your win in the Olympic Marathon Trials Meb, keep up the good work
I have a tremendous respect for african long-distance runners, and sure they are my inspiration in every training and competition day, THANKS ALOT FOR THIS VIDEOS!!!

MEB2012 #teamusa
Beast, go Meb!!!
Looks so tense but also so relaxed. My back and arms tighten up something fierce if I run anything under 5:20s with my back that upright.
@TheRCat meb is actually a midfoot striker but because his cadence is freakishly fast, it appears as if he was heel-striking. His stride frequency is excellent.
I can watch him run all day long.
Magnifique!!! Quel allure!!!
Wow I love running, those elite level distance runners are just the definition of strength and grace. Too bad I dont really have talent myself :(

my legs starting to hurt just watching him run
I hope they're specially designed, because those Skechers GOruns look pretty awful for elite runners. (Love the PR jargon all over the shoes too: "Smart Shoe" (for sole), "resalyte" (for random piece of rubber), "vari-lock" (for shoelace hole!).)

Rhys Nichols well, that's a combo of great genetics and hard ass work!
@Dashir101 - It can't be diet cause Meb eats pancakes and Lagat eats Outback steaks.

@Dashir101 Not only them :P But the majority yeah, it's in the culture of these countries, running villages and stuff for one! And then there's simple genetics, the way their bodies are shaped naturally is good for long distance running. Once they cut their body fat so much it only gets easier surely

Awesome, you could probably balance an apple on that guy's head.
The guy on the bike looks more tired than the one actually running
the guy on the bike passes out from exhaustion, and the kenyan runs over him.

i guess he heel strikes but his pace is so quick that it doesnt even matter. this beat doesn't fit the footage at all tho. belongs with a montage of rocky protoges working out or something
